Deborah1969 reacted to blizair09 in Ugh.. extra skin
I've lost 225 pounds. I have some loose skin on my upper arms, belly, and inner thighs. That being said, for a man that has lost as much weight as me, it isn't that bad at all. My ex and I broke up after 8+ years in July, so I have been dating/hooking up/hanging out since, and I have never had a complaint. The only conversation it brings about (usually at humorous times) is about the fact that I had obviously lost a lot of weight. (And this is in the gay world, so that says something...)
I have a big block of stock from my work that matures in the summer. I'm considering using the proceeds to fund plastics, but I am not sure that I really need it. It would be great and all, but I have absolutely no issues with my body as it is.
Each person is unique and this is a very personal issue and decision...

Fellas get loose skin, too!
The skin around my belly button is sort of crinkly-looking and weird. It feels like a plastic bag with bits of loose ground meat scattered in it. And the belly button itself sort of pinches it up in the middle, so it's like it's divided into two separate bags of loose skin. I also have loose skin under my arms. My thighs aren't there yet, but they feel just like my belly and arms did before they turned to loose skin. It's like right before I get to the loose skin stage, I have a sort of jiggle stage where the fat stops pushing everything taut and then everything jiggles much more. So I guess that's next.

Anyone in their 40's or 50's who have lost over 100 pounds able to tighten their skin to a decent degree without surgery? I know nutrition is key, Water and strength training. I also know sometimes it takes a year or two after losing that much. Any positive stories out there or is surgery inevitable?

My voice is starting to come back. My ear infection is healing and so are the surgical wounds. I know it is because of the new strong antibiotic they gave me on Thursday. I did not have to take any pain medication on Friday. Crossing fingers I am on my way to real recovery. Sipping some homemade bonebroth right now, ready to get on with this journey.

Hello - I had surgery on 6/27/2017. However, I ran into some complications. Damage to vocal cords - still can't talk, see an ENT July 19. Taking antibiotics for ear infection that just came out of the blue. Then when they took took my drainage tube out on July 3rd, the next day my abdominal wounds started getting red. I am now on antibiotics for wound infection. Definitely not what I planned when getting this surgery, but still think in the long run it will be worth it.

Well we could make this thread our mini support group. I'm not sure how we'd start an official group here. But I'd be more than happy to share my story - issues and success for others and to encourage others.

You've been through the ringer.
So you still have no voice at all? No improvements? And on top of that you have an infection? I feel so bad for you. That's pretty miserable.
Glad you got more time off work. You need to heal. -

If you scroll up to the first gray box and click the create tab, you will see tickers and can have fun playing with those. The key word is tickers. I have not updated mine too often yet but it is fun!
Glad you are feeling a little better!

Wow July 19h and working today! It doesn't seem like your surgeon is being real. I haven't gotten 64 ounces of liquid yet and I am counting my shakes as part of the liquid. Do what you can and don't sweat what you cant and don't lift anything you shouldn't. don't need pulled stitch pain on top of everything!

Yesterday, July 3rd I went to see my surgeon to have the draining tube taken out. Because I basically ended up having two major surgeries on June 27th and my vocal cords were damaged, I was having a hard time adjusting and getting any kind of shakes down. I was doing well with my meds, shot, and hygiene, but in so much pain that I was sleeping. My surgeon got on me for that and said I should be drinking 64 ounces of Water a day and 3 Protein Shakes. Plus walking at a brisk pace for 30 minutes outside. Not sure what universe she is living in, but that is not normal just a few days out of surgery. I ended up in the ER this morning with an ear infection and my drainage site looking infected. I am super clean, I used to work in a Lab. I have all the materials to keep everything germ-free. I am now on antibiotics. And, My VOICE is still not back. The surgeon referred me to an ENT, but they are unable to see me until Julyu19th. I go back to work tomorrow, no choice, coworkers on vacation. This ought to be real interesting....

Wow. I'm so sorry. I hope it's not serious. That's frightening.
Idk if the drinking is related to your throat. If it's not then it definitely improves as you heal. -

Deborah,
I had my surgery the exact same day and time as you. My anesthesiologist said I might have a sore throat two tubes were going down our throat oxygen and the tube they use to measure the sleeve. I cant remember it's name. My throat did not hurt at all. Everything else did and I had dry heaves as well. With what you went through is is not surprising your vocal folds are swollen. I said a prayer that all your inflammation goes down quickly!
