  1. I had my DS this past June and love it! No regrets. I would do it again in a heartbeat. If you look at the stats, very few have regain with the DS. In fact, I have't read any posts on this site where a DS patient complains about regain. Not one.
  2. Oh, my word. What is wrong with people???? Yes, very awkward indeed.
  3. Oh, geez, that really would be annoying. People need to learn when the joke is dead (and wasn't even funny to begin with).
  4. One man at work wanted to comment about my weight loss, but didn't know how to go about doing it until he overheard a woman ask how much weight I'd lost. Then he walked over and joined the conversation and admitted he had wanted to say something but didn't know how. That was 17 pounds ago. I think men are afraid they'll offend a woman if they make any comments about her weight. Women aren't as shy.

Unsupportive Friends during Pre Op Diet

I kept my surgery private, but my co-workers have noticed I don't eat carbs (bread) during lunch. One co-worker, who likes to compete on just about everything, started bringing a fresh loaf of cinnamon bread with honey for the entire table two weeks in a row. She's never done this before. This went on loaf after loaf for a while, but I stuck to my guns. She commented about my weight loss before bringing the bread, so she was aware of my diet restriction. However, another co-worker has been extremely supportive of my new diet and has even started following in my footsteps with what she eats because she sees me being successful. This is why I opted to keep my surgery private. There are too many people with hang ups about what other people weigh and it's hard enough on me just trying to keep my head in the battle. The liquid stage is difficult, for sure. Take it one day at a time. Good things are on the horizon.
  6. You've lost 50 pounds. I would want to kick him.

    Nosy People

I would be angry too, but if you report it, then that would inform additional people about your surgery. I'm not sure where you started as far as your weight, but no one noticed when I had lost my first 20 pounds. It does sound like the cat is out of the bag. Workplace drama is the worst. I'm sorry this happened to you. Focus on your goal and if someone asks, just tell them you're eating smaller portions, which is true. Then I would change the subject and move on.

    Balloon versus lapband versus ??

I also had the lap-band and revised to the duodenal switch. I would never recommend the lap-band to anyone for the same reasons Sara Bronson stated. They were way over-hyped, not an effective tool, and caused damage.
  9. I would be livid. I also feel having WLS is a very personal decision, as evident from the differing opinions on this thread. I chose to keep my surgery private, especially from co-workers because of their tendency to be extremely judgmental, backstabbing, and competitive with each other. The last thing I want is my personal business in the drama at work. No thank you. I've slowly lost my weight and completely changed my eating habits (except for that damn pumpkin dessert a co-workers keeps bringing!), so my weight loss has appeared natural. I think in time you will forgive him, but man it would be extremely difficult for me to trust again. You needed him to be your buddy on this, not part of the crowd. Time is a healer. Give it time. On the plus side, maybe since everyone knows, it could help with accountability when there are temptations passing under your nose.

    A Strange Change

You're probably in ketosis. I couldn't stand the smell of my urine the first few months. Now that my weight loss has slowed down, it's more tolerable. I guess that's a bad thing.

    What surgery did you have?

Could we be surgery date buddies?

Looks like your surgery is Monday! Best wishes for a speedy recovery. You'll be on the "losers bench" before you know it. The DS was the best decision I've ever made for my health. I love it.
  13. I would definitely voice your concerns with your surgeon. The DS has a different vitamin/calcium requirement than the other weight loss surgeries. Flintstone vitamins aren't enough with the DS, but recommended for others. I had the DS this past summer, but don't know enough about Synthroid to answer your question.

    Signiture help

At the bottom of my previous post, you should be able to see an illustration or cartoon of a girl jogging along a timeline. This would depict me running towards a finish line. It keeps track of my weight loss, where I started, and how far I have to go. This is called a ticker. You can create your own by clicking on the drop down menu under your log-in name at the top right of the screen. If you are using your phone, I'm not sure if this is the same. I always log in on my desktop computer.

Is this thread for DS and others, e.g., loop?

Welcome! I had the traditional DS in June and haven't looked back for even one second. It was the best decision I've ever made to turn my health around. I lose slowly, but the scale is headed in the right direction. I'm excited for you.

Well, at least you only have two now....that's progress.

@DropWt4Life. I was just going to mention your three tickers, but then I read your post above. Sounds like you have things figured out.

@DropWt4Life, your ticker is showing up twice. However, I'm on a desktop computer viewing this. Could it be that you cannot view them on your phone? By the way, you should be seeing my ticker also beneath this reply. It's there.
  19. Love this! It explains so much why I'm such a contradiction at times. It's worth reading again.

    Best Scale to Buy

I'm considering buying a new scale because my current one only shows increments of half pounds. I see people posting what they lose each week in smaller points on the scale (2.8, 1.7, etc.). What scale would you recommend, where did you buy it, and how much did you pay? Part of me is afraid to switch because the new scale probably won't match the one I've been weighing on, but I'm still considering replacing it.

    Is this my new normal?

Before I had my surgery, I never had to get up to use the bathroom unless it was to go #1. Now, it's pretty normal that I'm woken up for more serious bathroom business (last night, for example). I think it will always be this way, and I'm four months out. My stomach used to growl really loud when I ate, but now it hardly ever does that. Occasionally, I'll have to burp after my first bite for some reason. One thing I thought was weird is that I only lost 8 pounds this past month, but I lost a full two inches off my stomach and thighs, and I haven't exercised as much as I did last month.

    Flatulent and fretful

I think of it as a grandpa odor. My occurrences of gas aren't too frequent, but everyone once in a while my stomach feels like churning boulders looking for an escape.

    Lap Band vs Sleeve

I agree with SIPS in Seattle and ZinNH. It was a torture device and I blamed myself for its failure. It was a relief to me also to discover that I wasn't the only one who had failed with the lapband. I think a lost a grand total of 8 pounds in two months on that thing. Then I gained 30. So glad that thing is out of me. I've lost 40 pounds so far with the DS, and I'm confident I'll reach my goal by May.

Update your Profile for better Results?

You have to create your ticker. Go to the top right corner of your screen. Click on your profile name. In your case, it would be LillieDuFran. A drop down menu will appear with the word "My Tickers" on the list. Click on that and follow the steps to create your personal ticker.
