I’m 2 weeks post op from gastric bypass? My NUT told me I’d probably only be able to eat 2 bites?!? I’m eating more than that. How do I know I’m full? I don’t want to screw up this whole process 😥

If you don't have a signal (I never did until it was too late) try to never eat past the recommended amount for your stage example

    1/8cup, 1/4cup, etc...

    Better safe than sorry

    Safe Journey

Having started this journey at 412lb (BMI 54.4) in April last year, and having lost 102lb prior to my surgery on 1st March 2018, and another 83.5lb since then, I am now officially overweight :D at a BMI of 29.9! I am still a ways from my goal, but today I am feeling very pleased with myself.

    CONGRATS!!!

  3. This is an interesting question!

The only thing I can say is not all cals/macros are the same

Fat is not just fat, carb is not just carb etc, different types of each of the macros will do different things in your body but that's getting too technical (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Also I know from watching food trends I lose more weight when I eat watermelon vs strawberries although I portion the same cal amounts...

  4. eggs. I don't know why they introduce them soooo early when soooo many people have problems with them. I can't eat two at 9 months post op, I can usually only eat them boiled, yesterday I tried sunny side up (well done) still made me queasy. A couple of months ago I almost gave them up completely when I ate one and projectile vomited for no reason (I have one of the strongest gag reflexes I've ever seen, trust me almost nothing makes me vomit)

Sure we meal prep, but the food I pack for work doesn't always get eaten. Or I just can't finish everything I packed. To me it works best if I measure/weigh before eating and the weigh after and log the difference if I don't finish.

Inversely, I have spare Snacks in case I eat everything and yet am still hungry. If I only logged once a day, I would most likely forget those things completely.

Whew! Got it! Was worried I was doing all of this extra work in vain...

I am currently only logging full amounts whether I finished things or not as a safe guard against exceeding calorie amounts, I may rethink this strategy but I'm lazy

The absolute best revenge would be sending him pics of my current hotness (and future hotter-ness :P). That would hit him where it hurts. Because I know I was the best sex he'd ever had, and I doubt he's found better in the last 4 years

Oh well you're a better person then me I was going to "Help" him with chocolate pie...

I don't see how logging food before you've eaten it works for anyone. Even this far out, I cannot say what I am going to eat for the entire day.

When it comes to the godawful imperial measuring system (cups of spinach, or 1/4 of pork rinds) I always switch my scale to grams. The problem with the imperial system is many people/labels say 2 ounces (weight) instead of quarter cup when they are referencing Fluid ounces (volume) . The metric system avoids that confusion with grams for weight and milliliters for volume.

I am meticulous with my tracking and have been for quite a while. I find it a valuable tool to prevent me from overeating. It also helps me determine if the hunger is real or just in my head. If I am already at 2,000 calories for the day, it is most likely head hunger. However, if I have been exceedingly active that day, it would make sense that I am truly hungry and need the sustenance.

The free version of MyFitnessPal is still pretty darn powerful if you are handy with spreadsheets. I just use their report and scrape the data from the HTML and enter it into my spreadsheet:

So no one else is meal prepping?

    BIG CONFESSION TIME

I had a boyfriend of 7 years, who left me over my weight.

When we got together I was probably around 170-180. When he left me I was about 230.

We had no other major issues. We got along extremely well. We had only a few fights during our entire relationship. Despite my weight I was more physical active, and active in general (more social, traveled frequently), and also took a lot of pride in my appearance. He was slightly overweight when we met, gained some weight, and then lost weight to end up just very slightly overweight.

I noticed he started to not invite me to things with his family or friends. I didn't think too much about it. Holidays were off the table with him having 2 sets of kids, and me with my family, so we never did those together. Otherwise he was pretty much a homebody, so other social events for him were few and far between, made it easy to ignore. We both had demanding and social jobs, so staying in and me cooking was the norm. I barely noticed the decline in going out.

I knew from the beginning I wasn't his physical type. But I figured it wasn't a big deal, because we had a great sex life. There were things about him that weren't ideal, but all the good stuff made up for, I thought it was the same for him.

He began to get more distant. So we finally sat down and talked and he said he wanted to break up. He wouldn't give me an answer why really. I finally asked him if it was my weight. He was surprised I knew it was an issue for him. He told he was embarrassed to bring me around his family and friends or to be seen in public with me. He was still sexually attracted to me, but too embarrassed to be seen with me.

That was four years ago. I only told one person the real reason we broke up, and I did it when I was drunk, lol.

    Give me his current address...

    I'll fix this

I guess you don't suggest cloud bread or zucchini breads. I have recipes for them and other types. Plan on trying them but have not yet. I did make a "pizza crust" recipe with chicken and parm cheese. It was good but dry. Dogs loved it though. I doubt any of these "frankenfoods" breads can take the place of "normal" bread but nothing about this new life is normal. Who knows I may find something I really enjoy that's a healthy alternative.....

Try them and if you like them and they fit your plan shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks...except your NUT

  10. Some people never lose the hunger sensation. Not a lot of information is being distributed about this. Its usually attributed to head hunger and sometimes it's not. You can drink low calories items constantly. Savory broth, soothing tea, etc. You can also speak with your team and see what they have to say.

Also are you on a PPI?

The stomach acid sensation after surgery is as strong as hunger. Rule out head hunger and stomach acid to give your team a better idea of how to help you

    CONGRATS!!!!

Thank you. Surely we can do this. Lots of people do it without loosing their marbles....right? I saw someone post that they had everything logged first thing in the morning for the entire day. That sounds good. Sure I can scan an item and log it. Guess my biggest problem is when I cook. So many ingredients and portioning it properly is a pain. And converting from grams to oz or cups...the conversions are a pain sometimes. I mean how much is a cup of raw spinach? Do I squish it down? Maybe if we keep it super simple. Like 2 ingredient dishes that we use repeatedly. Gotta figure this out.

One cup of uncompressed raw spinach will be different in weight and volume than one cup of cooked spinach so weighing is a better bet, but I haven't been neurotic enough to weigh spinach.

For dishes you can either build it in recipes or enter separate ingredients and log each one. Totally up to you and how complex the meals are, I personally use the latter method.

My plan actually doesn’t say anything about bread. I haven’t spoke to my NUT about it yet because I figured I’m not ready for it anyway but i have a follow up appt in 2 weeks so I’ll mention it.
The lettuce as bread is a great idea!

Maybe they are waiting to discuss it when you move towards your real foods stage, perhaps they don't want to overwhelm you.

Hello! I am a little over 4 weeks post op and just started on purees. I know I'm not ready for bread right now but I'm wondering if one day I'll be able to have any. Does anyone have suggestions on brands/ types of bread? ? Also, has anyone been able to eat a sandwich post op? Again, I know it's too early for that just wondering if its a possibility to still be able to eat a sandwich in general...Thanks!!!

When on your plan are you allowed to venture towards breads again? What types of modifications does your plan suggest for common foods?

My plan said although not recommended bread starting at 6-8 months post op. Suggestions for modifications were low carb, fat, calorie varieties. Talk to your NUT, they may ask you to stay away from white varieties or whole grains, but they would have some specific reasoning behind the recommendation.

I'm 9 months post op, I don't eat bread. I use lettuce as bread lol.

    Hello All,

Surgery for me in 1 short week....dealing with a mixture of excited butterflys fluttering and heavy worrying rhinos thumping in my belly. The big thing is coming out of Surgery. I don't usually do too well with Anasthesia. I linger FOREVER between here and there, in pain, nausiated, trying to come out, suffering, ringing in my head, struggling, its AWFUL! I dread it, and it's keeping me up tonight...

Any tips for how to elegantly wake from Surgery? What helps you? Comforts you? Looking for anything to help me coup with what is ahead? Anything that helped you? Any thoughts, techniques or things you discussed with the Anesthesiologist?

Grasping at Straws here, trying to mentally prepare...

I woke up how you described (my first time under) and I was just happy to make it, so I prayed to orient myself. Then back to the weird dream state. I just went with it. A couple hours later I was fully lucid.

Oh man I had this idea at first but now I am buying everything in sight & rewarding myself a lot lol.

When I hit 100 lbs lost I want to do a photo shoot though to Celebrate. And husband said it’s be nice to take a big trip to Celebrate and Italy may be it! Hopefully by end of year I can hit it and we can head to Europe by spring

I'd recommend Europe in late spring these days... Weather has been so unpredictable it may feel more like winter in early spring...

I’m also in the 400-500 calories a day on the fluids stage. (13 days post op). I don’t think that’s bad as there isn’t a limit. The focus is on Water and Protein. I’m struggling with Water too. It tastes sooo bad to me. I’ve been adding lemon slices and that makes it a tad bit better.

Anyone who has seen my confessions (another thread) knows I struggle with low quality water. I can't drink it at all. I can only drink, high pH, alkaline, mineralized, foreign waters. Not all water is the same...
