Feeling so unprepared...
GreenTealael replied to davis29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First order of business: ❤️ Happy Birthday ❤️ Change vitamins if you can. Try to split them in half, get tasty chewable versions or even liquid & patch varieties. Hydration, food and life WILL get easier with time. You are in the very early stages post op so please give yourself a little grace. You don’t have to be perfect just consistent. Good Luck ! -

I didn’t have any lemons but had pineapple juice so I added it, but now want to try pineapple pieces! I’m not totally snowed in but I hate the snow now so that’s the excuse I use to stay indoors as much as possible 😂 -

Egg salad “sandwich” but what’s missing from the pic and log are the 10 pretzels plus half of an oatmeal raisin cookie so this meal was more like 500 calls 🤣 -

Nurse Navigator NOT Helpful Thus Far
GreenTealael replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes Unfortunately. I wish that there was just a set price for a procedure but it *seems* that when dealing with insurance companies (vs self pay) there is a range or a maximum Doctors and Hospitals will bill insurance companies. If you were to pay for surgery completely out of pocket they *probably* could give you a better estimate mostly because your are billed upfront and sometimes after if there was an unexpected variable. If you have access to any of your health insurance bills & documents (especially the Explanation of Benefits - EOB) check your last few appointments or procedures to see what was billed to your insurance, what the insurance actually paid and the patient responsibility amount (what you had to pay). That might help you understand your particular coverage a little better. Also definitely call your insurance company to verify coverage of the procedure and ask for it in writing. I know there are many people on this forum in the healthcare or Insurance field that may have even better explanations. I hope that helps a little ❤️ -
Binder - any recommendations?
GreenTealael replied to icandothis_gastricsleeve020221's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wasn’t given one for WLS but, it was necessary for plastics. If you decide you need it, I would suggest getting one that is not expensive as you probably won’t use it for very long. Here’s an example: https://www.amazon.com/Wide-Abdominal-Binder-Belly-Wrap/dp/B08FYLDQJ4/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=plus+size+abdominal+binder+post+surgery&qid=1612884366&sr=8-12 -

That price markup! I only pay $3.12 for these. I’d rather not eat 😂 -

Wow! That’s probably why I have a hard time finding them too! These are by far my favorite and I have no real clue why but I will get the mission brand if only those are available. Oh and I only have Aldi bread left because I bought a few a froze them months ago 😩 -
Curious... How long before you could eat your first piece of pizza?
GreenTealael replied to FINFAN3DP's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I tried pizza around 4 months post, my surgeon and dietician gave the ok (under my particular circumstances) Funny thing is I don’t eat pizza these days and I haven’t got a long time, but I will gladly eat my BFs crust 😂 -
My medical records still say “history of obesity” and it will likely say it forever but it’s just a matter of record now. Also when I gain a few lbs and have a random doctors visit in that time, a note will say “increased BMI, counsel patient on weightloss” even though it’s my normal fluctuations. I try to take it all in stride as something that is automatically generated.

The chicken is as good as it looks. It’s from Aldi but idk if you can find it anywhere else. I’ve heard it’s like the chicken Popeyes uses on their sandwich but I never tried those. I didn’t have any lemons around so I used a very very small amount of the juice to offset the vinegar (not even sure that’s how coleslaw is traditionally made but I did whatever it took to be able to have coleslaw this week so mistakes were made 😂) -
If the chicken is not the problem, perhaps you didn’t chew the vitamin well enough or you cannot tolerate it yet.

When I think about what I packed, I actually needed a lot less. Besides the cellphone & charger I could have just brought the clothes on my back.

I take Benadryl fairly often (at least once a week) and no side effect of weight gain for me. -

Pita pocket style Turkey and cheese! My favorite low carb tortilla just leveled up. This may totally be a freak accident but when I cut it in half, both halves began to open like pita bread My log says tomato basil tortilla but it’s the whole wheat flax type (same macros) I’m not mad about this new development at all. Also I only ate about 40% of this with a spoonful of coleslaw -
Week since surgery, down 11lbs, 50 overall. & What I have learned.

I was converted to RNY from VSG for structural (and other) reasons too. My surgeon just said we were doing bypass so I’m not sure if there any specific differences between that and what you will have done. It’s completely possible to maintain (and even gain) weight after your revision. The malnutrition aspect comes with how long of a bypassed Roux (or alimentary) limb will be. Your surgeon may choose to make that length shorter to prevent excess weight loss, but that’s a plan you will come up with together. Below are links for both the steps of a gastric bypass and info on just the gastrojejunostomy. Hope that helps ❤️ https://www.laparoscopic.md/bypass/surgery https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK560493/
