  1. Hopefully everyone is doing well! ❤️ I finally started exploring collagen supplements. I using an unflavored powder in drinks and so far no tolerance issues. Anyone else taking a separate collagen supplement? Recommendations?

    Locs/Dreads/Dreadlocks

I have locs (22 yrs now) and I did A LOT of low manipulation and semi free forming when I originally had surgery in the end of 2017. I was so worried about hair loss I did a ton of research in med journals on treatments for Telogen Effluvium (the type of hair loss most WLS patients experience) you can find a compilation of the journals I found most promising here: I had mild thinning along my temples and didn’t lose any locs. Pics included❤️
  5. You could try going back to the therapist and saying “Since our last session I have thought a lot about what you said and…” tell them what you would do in the event of any inconvenience to “the Plan”. I think they are looking for signs of adaptability and growth. However, If you have an eating disorder, it’s possible they are probing to see if you need more care before moving the process along.

    Do these things improve?

Yes, it does get better with daily improvement. It’s not the majority but some of us have a rough start, prolonged pain and delayed healing but turn out just fine! I felt a lot of pain the first 2.5 weeks after VSG and then one day I felt significantly better. If you feel like things are not getting better in a reasonable time or getting worse let your team know. Congratulations and speedy recovery

Lost weight, but don't feel good.

Sorry you feel less than your best. All great advice above and another potential cause could be low iron levels. Definitely ask your doctor to check the numbers. Get Well Soon ❤️

    4 yr Surgiversary!

It has been 4yrs since my (initial) WLS. Within that time I made great new friends, found love, had a revision, lost a parent, witnessed a pandemic from one of it’s epicenters, had plastics, had new additions to my extended family, relocated, had one child graduate from high school and more. Almost none of these things were weight related but somehow everything else in my life seemed easier to focus on without worrying about weight. My weight has been stable since I hit goal a few years ago with only minor fluctuations. I’m proud to say I will always identify as a WLS patient. I thought I wouldn’t feel like one years out but I find I am consciously honoring this lifestyle in the majority of my choices. I’m grateful we have this forum and I’m especially grateful to everyone in the WLS community that make it a positive and supportive environment to thrive in.

    Introduction

To start: Check if your insurance will cover surgery (if using insurance). Google Bariactric surgeons in your area/Network (reviews, etc). Ask for a referral from your Primary Physician (if needed). Good luck!

  11. Oh wow! Thanks for posting this
  12. I think I had to take a PPI for a very short period post op. I think I really noticed the difference once that stopped and I was about 2 months post op because I settled into more normal food choices bs immediate post op diet. I hope you find relief soon ❤️

    8mths post-op issues?

Yes! This has happened to me also. For me it was usually after a procedure, when the seasons changed (too hot to eat) or just not really hungry. But your nausea maybe a sign something else is going on like food intolerance or stomach bug. I would reach out to my team if it lasts longer than normal.

    restarting food diary

My plan required: 64+ oz of sugar free fluids (mostly water) 60 or more grams of protein 30 or less grams of carbohydrates (depending on the sources e.g. vegetables vs grains) with less that 15 from added sugar 20 or less grams of fat (depending on the sources e.g. cheese vs oils)

    Help please

Are you able to drink any protein shakes/broth/water? That might help a lot.

    Food Before and After Photos

I’m right there with you! I don’t think my sweet tooth truly ever went away but dumping curtails many shenanigans. But I also go through food phases. I’ll love something for 2 months then never want to see it again. 😂 I tend to share all desserts with others or “buffer” dessert with a vegetable intensive or low calorie meal. Honestly it does as much for me mentally as calorically. I need chocolate on a monthly basis. Let me know if you find a solution!

    GERD after nearly 3 years!!

GERD after VSG is a possible outcome, but it doesn’t effect everyone. Don’t be alarmed, your team will know what to do. Once it’s confirmed to be GERD and not something else (like diet, etc) your team may suggest using PPI’s again and dietary changes.
