Coffee after weight loss surgery?
GreenTealael replied to kasensmom's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Decaf Coffee was on my tray the day after surgery , tried then and was no problem Two weeks post OP I stopped by wholefoods juice bar and realized the only thing I could have was coffee. So I ordered an espresso to mix with premier caramel protein shake but I Forgot to order decaf and felt fluttery like my my heart rate was raised. Never again. And I just don't love it like I used to... Now I just make Maxwell house decaf at home, when I want the taste of coffee. I won't even bother to spring for the good stuff anymore... Because decaf Have fun! -

My surgeon gave out a small handbook on post OP diet and most helpful thing in it was a recipe for high protein hot chocolate. Using protein powder make a smooth paste with cold water add chocolate packet and stur it into the paste, lastly add hot but not boiling water to the mix and viola! I was able to make mine 20 grams of protein in 10 oz. Also premier caramel shake added to decaffeinated coffee as creamer is luxurious...

Tons of people feel and felt this way, so don't give up. It kind ofblike buyers remorse. And depression is common after surgery. But It DOES get better and time is the key. Remind yourself constantly the reason you had surgery. Keep going and stay very close to your plan also try to figure out what triggers the reaction and steer clear of it. You can do this!!!

Once upon a time an ER doctor told me too bad we didnt live close to the ocean because Swimming in it would have solved a contact dermatitis rash I developed. I was prescribed conventional medication but what he said stuck. I was perplexed why he would say that and I started doing research and apparently salt water solves all kind of skin issues. So I began to make Sole (super concentrated sea salt water ) anytime I had an acne flare up, bug bites, cuts, abrasions, etc. And it does work and quickly usually overnight and my skin is considerably better. I simply wipe it invoked a toner at night and sleep my worries away. I've done it so many times I know exactly what to expect from my developing irritations in the morning... Mostly gone from being dried out. Also I usually resort to hydrocortisone cream for allergic reaction on my skin and I'm not above using over the counter athletes foot cream - clomitrazol (spelling?) for anything suspiciously close to fungal... Let me know how it goes for you.

Oh... I understand completely. Still alternatives may be a be help I can personally tell you that the quest brand of protein cookies are out of this world good. So good I had to keep checking the wrapper to make sure I wasn't going off plan. Seriously I thought it was a regular treat and I got super nervous. As for chips I don't think the protein ones will come close to the real deal but give them a try!!!

I'm crying into my protein shake... I needed this post like water in the desert... -
Super sorry Seems like I can't correctly copy links with my phone... I am having the same problem so I googled it and it seems to be related to hormonal changes that can occur when losing weight Please google it and maybe check with a dermatologist to make sure it's not fungal or bacterial That's what I did...

Any one know the legitimate reasons not to use a straw?

May be attributed to hormonal changes See below Greater weight loss and hormonal changes after 6 months diet with ... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov › pubmed

It’s NOT a DIET!
GreenTealael replied to Connie Stapleton PhD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
This has some helpful information however vegan is a life style not just another diet. -
I understand completely!!! I want to tell people about this option too but I decided it was not my place and I should simply lead by example, No need to crusade ...

Go Back to basics... -
3 weeks post-op, no weight loss for 2 weeks.
GreenTealael replied to greygoosecytosis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im two months out, but I'm not sure this is my first stall or not as I don't check my weight often, I only found out because I had to check it at my primary doctor appointment. My first goal is to me under 200 so I can get off a Med I hate So far I have only lost 28 since surgery which seems slow/ low So I'm going back to bare basics and going as high protein as possible. It's very hard to get enough cals in early on I'm still only at about 700 but I realized I was eating too fast (10 mins as opposed to 30 mins ) so I was hurting myself in that area. I'm going slow picking easy to eat protein rich foods (cheese, yogurt, peanuts, shakes again ) instead of forcing dense chicken when I'll probably won't be able to tolerate it for a while And trying really hard to get at least 64oz water in. -

34, no pain, not very active, sleeved 11/7 SW 238 CW 210 I love love love to cook, I even cook foods I can no longer enjoy for other people. I want everything from scratch unless it's something I'm never going to make (yogurt, peanut butter, tomato sauce, etc. ) I love Mediterranean and Asian inspired cuisine. Can't wait to make some of them VSG appropriate. Haven't had any grains or breads as they ate not permitted until 6 months post OP. I need need NEED to work out more... Any suggestions? Walking around my neighborhood is out until better weather, I live on a steep hill and slid down. The gym is out, too far and takes too long to get there, so I'm doing DVDs. Anyone tried a mini trampoline ? -

Everyone say try as hard as you can to increase protein which is hard but perhaps add protein powder to the milk, etc . Let us know when it does break! I'm stalled too so I feel your pain -

Important to remember not everyone will loss hair and everyone is different. So what may help one may not help you... That being said : The active ingredients in keranique is minoxidil same as rogaine, I consulted with my dermatologist and confirmed it will help considerably but once you stop taking it the hair will come out again because it only prolongs the Anagen growth phase of the hair but it cannot prevent the Telogen phase. Not wanting to use rogaine , I did a bit of research on what may help and came across a few medical journals that point to protein intake being at or above recommended values, the status of your Ferritin levels (iron stores) and L-Lysine as a promising treatment. If you are good on protein and iron then look into L-Lysine. If I remember correctly it blocks the receptors or binds with a hormone that causes increased balding and was being studied as a treatment for male pattern baldness. It is an essential amino acid readily available so no harm in using it. I also asked my surgeon about biotin and he confirmed that for Telogen effluvium, why everyone is losing hair after the surgery, the medical evidence does not support biotin being all that helpful. It will help regrowth when you get to that phase but won't prevent the loss. Please let me know how it goes. I'm only 2 months out but I started taking L-Lysine by week 2 post OP. For a better understanding google L-Lysine and Telogen Effluvium Hope you this helps everyone

Stevia does this to me but I have thankfully not experienced it while out I hope you figure it out soon!

My surgeon has me avoiding grains breads pasta etc until 6 months post op and then it must be whole grain for the fiber content , but I'm happily giving them up for a good 8 months if not more -just not interested anymore . I tried quinoa once but the protein count wasn't worth justifing eating it, when I could just have some cheese. Also how did this thread get so judgey and mean so quick? I went from page 1-9 skipping the middles and I was like WTF!?! …

How did you decide on which type of surgery is best for you?
GreenTealael replied to dennise68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All surgeries were equal for me so My surgeon suggested bypass but I ultimately went with sleeve because I was already anemic and didn't want to deal with more deficiencies...
