Discouraged 10 month post op VSGr

Some surgeons forbid the use of straws ever again. I hear it's about gas some say makes you drink too quickly But for me It's the only I'm going to get cold fluids in. So far no negative effects for me but I would never advocate for people to disregard their doctors orders so I added that disclaimer Sent from my N817 using BariatricPal mobile app

Discouraged 10 month post op VSGr

I didn't totally go back in and reboot the stages, I just added things back in from previous stages like adding protein powder or shake to hit chocolate or oatmeal. I'm still doing shakes every day and this may remain forever in my routine (I'm only three months out btw) I was able to commit to creamer or half and half forever so it's a nice trade And by using it in coffee I easily reach Protein goals by lunch where as before I was struggling at 9pm trying to get more in. And now I maybe able to return to my previous vegetarian lifestyle (ovo lacto) in about 2 months when see my surgeon again which is my first goal now Sent from my N817 using BariatricPal mobile app

    hair loss

And now I make oat flour as an alternative to wheat (for baked goods styled items which I mix with at least 50 percent Protein Powder ) and I still have to watch the carb count. I have a zero to minimal sugar diet (I sometimes add pure maple syrup when cooking ) I use pure stevia or nothing at all , cant drink a ton of juice (freshly made vegetable fruit mix) unless it half Water and even then only sometimes Sent from my N817 using BariatricPal mobile app

    hair loss

Yes I had to give up quinoa when the scale refused to move and I have to be very selective about when I can indulge in any fruit, beans and lentils. It sucks but sometimes because it's what I love. I learned that for weight loss to occur for me I HAVE to be in ketosis my protein macros must far out weigh the carbs. And I always cook EVERYTHING from scratch because I already had a special diet (kosher) I even made my own breads which were made from heirloom grains like spelt mixed with hard winter wheat. So I knew exactly what was going into my foods. My body simply requires less carbs but I can only assume it will be different when I reach maintenance Sent from my N817 using BariatricPal mobile app

Discouraged 10 month post op VSGr

I agree Tracking is crucial. The lack of accountability got me where I was in the first place. When I stalled for nearly a month (month 2)I had to go straight back to basic , I had to add in that protein shake, I had to remove slider foods like Greek yogurt, although they are protein rich I was often hungry very quickly. I had to add easy dense proteins back in like boiled eggs. I had to get 64oz min of liquids in by any means necessary, which for me mean using straws (which is under debate ) I had to return to the phases I thought I outgrew. If you are a coffee drinker one of the easiest ways to up way your protein consumption is by adding premier caramel shake to coffee. It's the only I have been able to tolerate the shakes post surgery. Don't be discouraged, this amazing tool you have will work for you if you use it Sent from my N817 using BariatricPal mobile app

    hair loss

I guess I mind as well do what I want then, lol. What was your protein intake and diet like at 3 month post op?
  22. GreenTealael

    Would you do it again?

If you have the funds yes, but Mexico will likely be a third to a half of US self pay prices Me... I'd do it all again but I was not a self pay or have a low BMI

    Restrictive vs Metabolic

Also for some of us the main reason for having surgery vs dieting alone was to reduce or eliminate comorbidites quickly before they killed us . If you don't have any and are on the fence give dieting a shot until it doesn't work anymore Because you'll likely have to self pay according to your BMI without comorbidities.

    Not Enough Stomach Removed

Has anyone who thinks their pouch is too big tested the restrictions by weight or measuring out pure solid protein (chicken beef fish etc ) and eating only that? Nothing in addition, no veggie grains or excess sauces? You may be eating slider foods and not realize it. Also timing how long you eat for matters, 30 mins only according to my practice... The food does eventually empty from the stomach. Doesn't stay there for hours.

    Portion Control

Here is advice my nutritionist gave me use measuring cups, start with 1/4 cup size and use that as your guide. You will likely not eat that much in the 30 min eating window, eating for longer than that is considered grazing which has been known to cause regain Don't try to eat more than that yet. Slowly work up to that goal 4 oz is the amount of dense protein recommended when at the solids stage and that's a ways off for you
