I'm still a baby sleever anyways, all this BS I'm talking lol time will tell how I feel about staying active in the Bariatric community anyways. I just wish sometimes it was set up like college. I see a lot of the same discussions and I know y'all are tired of them too... Can I eat x at y days post op? Why am I not losing? Kinda want more from the discussions/ interactions but it's hard the further out from surgery you get , the site seems to cater to pre/peri-op...

Something to consider @bigviffer

This was not the old "RNY is superior to VSG" debate. To clarify I have a VSG is a fine tool This was a question about the need/desire for revisions based on failed expectation on weight loss alone (not post WLS medical issues or malfunctions) I see a ton of post (sadly mostly VSG based) where people are very freshly out of surgery wondering when they can cheat, or 2 years out of surgery wondering why they never made it to goal , or going for revisions to RNY to finally make to goal after regain My questions was are people going for VSG to avoid dumping to cheat (vs malabsorption for medical valid reasons) OR were they not advised that the best surgeries for their particular cases would have been the more aggressive surgery OR did they have no honest clue about the statistical weightloss/ regain rates ? I see a lot of good complex answers, thank you. I also see that a lot of Doctors are promoting VSG as their first choice surgery. Now I know. There are complex reasons why revisions are seemingly on the rise. Thanks everyone!!!!

Starting to see a rise in trolling of the site, anyone can make a profile and antagonize the good people here, sad. Time for a break...

Not loose Weight pre op
GreenTealael replied to lili@ne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Will they simply delay submission of info for surgery until you lose the weight? You were given 6 months to lose 10 lbs? Was this the insurance or doctors requirements? Hoping the best! -

Post more information about diet, habits, etc. But if you're really concerned check in with your team ASAP -

Oooooh tattooed! I was trying to look everywhere else, I felt so guilty, I didn't recognize the obvious... -
This question (perhaps its confusing to everyone) is about revisions. My question is basically is why chose the least effective surgery (individual based) only to end up getting another surgery when the outcome is unsatisfactory. (And i don't mean people who revised from lapbands that were installed forever ago, or revisions for GERD/Barretts, those are different) Why does anyone chose a lapband these days? Why choose VSG vs RNY/DS if you have A LOT to lose with a history of eating disorders, mental health concerns, lack of support, stressful lifestyle, tendency to cheat constantly, etc...? Why not be more aggressive? Some answers were good. Some left me with more questions, but I'm thankful for everyone who participated. This wasn't about divisiveness. This was a real question.

Waking up in pain after surgery
GreenTealael replied to ALEandVSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Low pain tolerance for me, waking up was fine because they still had enough meds in me , but make sure you advocate for yourself if the pain meds aren't work in recovery. They didn't get it right for a day. I was in misery. Pain management prior to leaving the hospital is important. -
Would you ever consider revisions (based on weight issues alone) vs continuing to work with your current surgery?
-
Everyone here seems well educated on their reasons why they wanted/chose the surgery, question anyone have unresolved maladaptive eating practices prior and was steered one way or an other (surgery choice) because of this? Has you choice of surgery changed/resolved this?
-
So you choose MGB vs RNY, but will consider it down the line? May I ask what influenced your decision?
-
Very very true But what comfort does someone who's surgery failed their expectations get if that surgery was never right for them in the first place (not by my standards, by close evaluation of all data)? Just have a revision? Thats what people are doing ...
-
For the record Perhaps its more complex than just the two categories I chose as answers. I'd like to hear other reasonings too, those were just what I could come up with
-
But isn't that what the while process is for, to evaluate for these things? Are people lying to themselves or their teams as a form of self sabotage? Or do they really think they can cheat their way to the win?
-
Availability for DS Yes that's an issue these days, but insurance coverage for DS and RNY are usually more guaranteed than VSG ,right? Invasiveness idk it all seems the same when done laparoscopically vs open But these are things to consider
-
Hmmmm I don't like it. Another member asked why so many revisions, they though it was a way to collect extra coin from failed surgical patients, I thought nonsense, why would a doctor do that? at the time now I'm thinking yeah...

Thiamine (B1) deficiency in sleeve gastrectomy despite fewer malabsorption issues than gastric bypass
GreenTealael replied to Missouri-Lee's Summit's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not always, sometimes its about absorption capabilities. I am deficient in b1, (and other vitamins) but I knew I would be, I cannot absorb many vitamins through my digestive system. No clue why. Don't even care. I have to get the ones i can through IV infusions. The others that are not offered through infusion, i have to just keep supplementing orally and hope the levels rise enough to stave off issues. Been this way since forever. Even when I was a "carbaterian" lol -
Crazy, I just see so many posts where I think, maybe that person should have chosen a different surgery, but ...
