    💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

I heard from a mutual friend that my friend who is really intelligent, told them I was the smartest person they ever met. I was stoked (even though it's not true hahaha) It's Totally true Dr. Ummyasmin 💜

    July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op

Hi Siblings So far weightloss is modest for which in am grateful. I am a conversion from VSG to RNY. I went from 157lbs day of surgery 7/15/19 to 168lbs when I went home 2 days later to 148lbs yesterday. So ive lost 9 lbs of fat in 5 weeks My surgeon projected additional weight loss to be capped at 10-15%, so I'm right on track

    July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op

Youre likely stalled and thats normal. Here are some ideas to remember if you weight jumps up a little, don't panic IV Fluid usually have a lot of sodium. Also dehydration will cause you to hold on to excess water (because you really need it) Give it a week you'll see a difference 💜
  4. Wait... why am I being quoted anyway? My comment is not directed specifically at you which is why you werent tagged (why would you think this was about you instead of a general conversation? I thought we were just discussing different paths) I was chiming in on : If I (during my preop stage)looked at other peoples food logs and associated it with my likely future I would have been wrong. Why shouldn't you continue to post about your journey? I'm certain they are helpful to people. People adore the advice and structure you provide to them 💜

    Bypass or Sleeve

Seems that way right, but who knows the true motivation for preference of VSG by surgeons.

    Bypass or Sleeve

Had the sleeve in 2017 /Converted to bypass 2019 I really don't see a difference yet between the two (except all the issues are resolved & when labs are done in a few weeks I'll compare) but as far as lifestyle... Same so far
  8. I also would have been very nervous if i looked through people's food logs. I was never going to eat only protein 5x a day, i needed vegetarian options too and those by virtue are high carb/cal. I really only gave up the things my Team told me to: carbonation, alcohol (I don't drink anyway) excess sugar, then caffeine, bread pasta & rice (I dont care for pasta or rice so... NBD) for the first 6 months. And even then they gave me wiggle room for my Roman Holiday at 4 months post op. I was told sure eat pizza, but get protein too. So I ate pizza pasta & gelato nonstop for 2 weeks and pastries crossaints, fried chicken tenders and kebab for 10 more days in Paris (only the panna cotta bothered me- the fabled Parisian dumping incident). Lost weight. I made tons substitutions stateside for healthier versions of things and i will eat (or drink 😂) a salad in a min because i actually like them. But im satified that none of my choices make me anxious. I really really value that freedom. Maybe its because I've never dieted before or maybe its a personality flaw, but i find the idea of constantly dieting or diet mode after surgery not a good fit for me which is why my MPF page is super lonely these days.

Decide when you get there... You'll know when it feels right.

    Watermelon

*Bursts In* Am I Late? No, cool 😂 I've noticed that whenever I ate a lot of watermelon, as opposed to other fruit, I lost more weight. Maybe its all the water and fiber for relatively low calories or that it also kept me very regular (also TMI) I didn't start eating it until maybe 6 months post op. Ask your Team about it.

    Struggling with family

Well I perhaps think the doctor just wanted to wish you well and add encouragement in a socially accepted way (he couldn't very well say good luck but you already feel great) Maybe he should have just said good luck. Your sister may be right however about the amount of people who will believe they can comment on your looks. A lot of people have surgery to feel better. I can only speak from my perspective: Mine was medically necessary but along the way i noticed there was no denying that I looked better too. And enjoying that aspect did not invalidate my original reason.

I've got the 6 month post op blues

Throughout my life I have learned that motivation cannot be trusted for long term practices. I really needed a routine thats sustainable to carry me through when motivation is exhausted. If you decide breads, crackers, etc are going to be apart of your diet and life is too hard without it then perhaps adjust your goals to reflect that. There were things I was never going to give up, not in the losing phase or ever and things I gladly gave up. Good Luck 💜

  21. I used my Surgeon's goal which was BMI 28. It felt achievable amd sustainable for me: I'm not battling the scale or food choices & have greater flexibility in that range.
