I personally think it’s absolutely fantastic that science and medicine are creating new ways to help treat obesity! Sometimes you need more than one tool. I would suggest a lot of research and asking a lot of questions. All of the medications come with potential risks so I would suggest you research those as well. Also, most of the research shows that the medications will need to be take for life (maintenance dose) BUT there is not enough research done on the WLS population because most of the trials exclude people who’ve had WLS. Good luck and let us know what you find out ❤️

When the "new you" becomes the "new normal": Then, what?
GreenTealael replied to maintenanceman's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I think the victories continue but in different areas. You may now have the mental space to focus on other things besides weight loss and that itself can be liberating. I’ve seen some amazing posts where people are climbing literal mountains, changing careers, running marathons, having children, traveling, beginning or finishing school, becoming novice mechanics (me), starting to date, ending suboptimal marriages, buying homes, etc. The new victories are countless. Congratulations and Good luck ❤️ -

Leftover southwest salad, boiled egg and sweet potato medallions (that fell apart). I did not finish this especially the egg which was an afterthought for protein sake. Funny if these were frozen waffles, I would have attempted to eat 2 even though they are more calories. 😐 -
1 week in the Caribbean...

You’re absolutely right, especially when it comes to traditional foods. It’s like that in a lot of the places in the Caribbean TBH. It was substantially easier to go sugar free in Europe. When I was in Puerto Rico, I resigned myself to exclusively drink water when out and eat whole protein (no substitutes) and vegetables/legumes. -

Lunch date Southwestern style salad , fries (no pic) and Bavarian beer cheese pretzels (forgive us @summerset) I barely ate any because everything was too salty 😐 -

I think the one that’s considered the meatiest is the impossible burger. Have you tried that one yet? I always cook the beyond burgers in fat (mostly olive oil) and spices. However, I have never eaten one 😂 -

Before and after of Shipwrecked ice cream (chocolate, caramel and Oreos) it’s a kid size portion but I have no clue about the calories. This is the amount I can handle without fear of ill effects. -

Get well soon, from the bursitis and fries. -
Thanks! I feel like my hat is leaning a little more towards Chaplin than I’d like 🤣

That’s a pity. Maybe try a few free apps first then decide. Good luck and you got this ❤️

Hat time! This was dropping my middle child off at college (yay!) Also what I think I look like vs what I actually look like 😂

Have you tried the free version of MyFitnessPal? That might be enough to start with. Baritastic is another free app that is user friendly and has a good front end design.

Back to basics, just kidding. Salmon pâté - This is still a staple in my lazy food arsenal because there is 15g of protein in the pâté. I could have done without the crackers but I wanted them and now I’m overly full 🙄. -

Drinks edition since I’ve been fighting off a cold. I finally found a sugar free pre made chai latte (but not as good as the reduced sugar version) and my current favorite electrolyte drink -

Late but joining! Definitely the words pouch and forever give me the “ick” even though I’m guilty of using them. -
Significant Other & Comments

Early post op I was “food policed” by one of the few people I disclosed surgery to even though I never ate off plan. It’s annoying but maybe family and friends just think it becomes their new role during this time. However, the additional scrutiny never felt hurtful because of the way things were said. Everything was phrased as a question and never done in a tone that was hurtful (I don’t thank him enough for this to be honest). If your feelings were hurt, you may be picking up on (what feels like) judgement or condescension. I second having a conversation about this early on before it gets worse and there is resentment. And congratulations on a safe and successful surgery ❤️ -
Sleeve to Bypass for Reflux

I had it done 3+ yrs ago and no more GERD. Recovery was also easier since I knew what to expect.
