  1. Those pillows are darling- where did you get them?

They’re from a person on Etsy. She hand makes them and will personalize them with different faces and whatever you want to put on the back, name, surgery date, etc... and they come in various colors. I love them! [emoji5]

  2. Do one anyways! My pre op was two shakes and a small meal. The small meal had to be high Protein, low carb. Snacks had to be either SF popsicles, Jello, or broth.

Good idea! Thank you, I think I will! [emoji175] my surgery is Monday and I cannot wait! I am having my gastric band revised to a sleeve. I just got these adorable pillows in today just in time for my surgery! I’m going to be using them as stomach pillows for when I need to cough or sneeze or laugh.

ME TOO!!! I just got my date today!! I am SOOOO excited!! My pre-op tests are on 1/16. Now I just have to hope that insurance approves it! January 29th can't come soon enough!

ETA: I'm being revised from band to sleeve. I'm hoping he can do it all in one surgery, but he warned me that it may have to be done in two parts, depending upon how nasty things are in there (scar tissue and such).

I seriously am doubting that they do date anymore. Another date was set up and 2 hours before get a text not showing up as he was called back to work. At my age 61 and single siince 2005 I am beginning to thing my time for dating is over with.

Oh, don't worry! It's not your age! I feel the same in my 30's. Dating in the 21st century is such a joke! No one seems to know how to communicate anymore, especially in person. Hang in there, though! There's bound to be at least one diamond in the rough! <3 (but it's depressing, for sure!)

  5. Yes to all of this. I'm 36 and terminally single also. Like you, everyone I find is either way too into my extra weight (still werkin on it), has some other weird fetish that takes precedent over everything else, is a loony bin or likes to sleep around behind my back (I must say though, THAT is the worst). I haven't been on a date in over two years because I was just so disgusted with it all. I've been thinking about getting back into the pool, but I just don't know if I want to put myself through that right now. I might just wait until after my revision to even really think about it (Gastric Band has been bothersome, so trying to revise to sleeve). UGH! Hang in there y'all! Hopefully we'll all find our Mr./Ms. rights when the time comes...

  6. Well Berry was right. How embarrassing!!! No way can 4lbs be Water weight lol. I'm 217 this morning. !

Congrats on the scale moving! Your posts are breaking my heart. I've dealt with OCD since childhood (officially diagnosed at the age of 20, I'm now 36). Over the years, I've been able to conquer it pretty well and have worked my way out of a lot of my behaviors, but I definitely still feel it nagging at my mind when I get super stressed. Are you seeing a therapist? I did for a while and it helped me work through it all. Berry is amazing and has given you such wonderful advice (which I will probably refer back to once I get my revision from lap band to either the sleeve or RNY...still slightly up in the air as to which... decisions are extra hard with OCD, as you probably know)! I don't have any additional advice regarding the sleeve, but I'm wondering if all the stress could have been slightly elevating your cortisol levels? That can make us hang onto weight, for sure. If you can follow Berry's great advice and your stress levels are able to come down a bit by doing so, maybe that will also help the weight to start to fall off faster! Best of luck and know you're not alone and OCD can get better/more manageable! [emoji172]

  7. So glad it went well!! I have my psyche eval this Thursday! I'm not too nervous because I've been working on dealing with/overcoming my food addiction/binge eating disorder and I've been doing really well... but it's always a little nerve wracking!

  8. More information is needed. How much do you weigh and how much would you like to lose? Do you have any metabolic diseases such as diabetes or PCOS? Do you have GERD?
Although I am pleased with my sleeve, lost 100+ pounds and have been maintaining my goal weight, the gastric bypass is the gold standard for those with metabolic issues that hinder weight loss such as PCOS and diabetes.
Also, if you are a female with more than 250+ pounds to lose, the odds of reaching your goal weight with a sleeve are stacked against you, but some women have defied the odds.
People with severe acid reflux (a.k.a. gastro-esophageal reflux disease or GERD) are advised by most bariatric surgeons to opt for the bypass because a sleeve can worsen it.

Hi! I'm 5'7" and currently 240 pounds. I'm not sure what my goal weight is because I've never been under 200 pounds since around the age of 10. I'm thinking 160-170ish? I'd honestly be thrilled if I can get to onederland! I have PCOS. I had diabetes before my lap band, but that's resolved from weight loss. I was told recently that I also have hashimotos, but it must be incredibly minor because I'm not on any medication for it. I have occasional acid reflux, but not as bad as GERD. So... I'm kind of torn. I honestly should have had the RNY back in 2009 when I was 335 pounds, but I couldn't afford it. It was all I could do to pay for lap band (I didn't know much about Medical Tourism and it kinda scared me if I had any complications). Anyway, what do y'all think?

  9. Hi all!

I've decided to definitely have my band removed. I had it placed in 2009 (self pay. Stupid bigoted "obesity clause" with my insurance at the time). I've been vomiting on a pretty regular basis for the past 8 years and have port pain if I move/bend the wrong way. I did lose 100 pounds, gained 45 back due to a couple of injuries, but I'm almost back down to my lowest again (5 pounds away! I can taste it!!).

Anyway, I met with a doctor at a weight loss clinic for my first consultation last Wednesday. The meeting went really well, she agreed that I should probably have it removed and she had someone remove half of my fill (I haven't thrown up since!! But I DO feel hungrier and can eat more now, which is a little scary for me...). I asked her which surgery she thought I should get and she didn't really have an answer for me. She gave me the pros and cons of each and said it's really up to me.

Can anyone make any recommendations to me? If you had the sleeve, are you happy with it? Do you wish you had the bypass? If you're reading this and had the bypass, same questions to you. Any input is appreciated! Thank you!!

  10. I'm in the midst of scheduling my band to sleeve revision. My band was paid by the insurance company but they will only pay for one weight loss surgery in a lifetime (BCBS of AL). My surgeon is going to remove my band at no cost since he was the one that put it in, but I have to self pay for the sleeve and the hospital/anesthesia since the hospital considers it two surgeries - (not sure how being under for one surgery is charging for two surgeries - unless the length of time I am under is what is considered).

Anyway - I am a little nervous about 'failing' the sleeve like I did the band. I lost about 90 lbs with the band and gained 60 back.

That stinks that you have to self pay. Do you know how much it will cost? I don't know you, but I'm sure you'll do well with the sleeve. I feel like having kinda gone through this already, you can learn from any mistakes you may have previously made and that will help your success. Plus, it seems like in a LOT of cases, it's the band that's failed, not the patient. Best of luck to you and please keep us posted! You'll be in my thoughts.

  11. I blend my food as well, but this was an approved puree recipe on Pinterest. Here are some others. I love to cook, so I needed options.

I'm not sleeved yet (got banded in 2009, considering a revision to sleeve), but these are some awesome sources!! Thank you so much for sharing! I've just bookmarked them for the future. I might even try some of them now! They actually sound really yummy (and pretty darn simple)! :)

  12. Thanks for everyone's insight!! It's comforting to know that others have had similar experiences!
As amlpn asked, what exactly ISt the full feeling like with a sleeve? Is it more like the way you felt pre surgery? I've read from a lot of people that it's completely different from the stuck feeling the band seems to give a lot of people, but what does it feel like?

  13. Hi there! I've been reading quite a bit here and other places about revising from band to sleeve. Here's my backstory:

I got the realize band in 2009 - self pay unfortunately, due to a stupid anti obesity clause with my insurance policy at the time. I was relatively successful - my starting weight was 335 and I got down exactly 100 pounds over the next 2 years. I experienced regain of 45 pounds after a car accident in late 2013 and another injury a few months later. I've worked hard since then and am about 5 pounds away from my original low weight (and plan on surpassing that).

The thing is, the whole time I've had the band, I've been a chronic vomiter, I get stuck ALL THE TIME (especially when I eat things I'm SUPPOSED to eat) no matter what and I never really feel full or satisfied, just uncomfortable and stuck. I always blamed myself and thought it just must be normal. But the more I read now, the more I realize that life doesn't have to be like this! I've been asked if I'd ever consider getting it removed and even the thought starts to hurl me into a panic. "I could NEVER get it removed!! I'll gain all the weight back and more and get diabetes again and a fatty liver and increase my depression and anxiety... NEVER!!" Plus I spent $25,000 on this dang thing!! But I hadn't thought much about a revision until the past couple months.

The insurance I have now covers WLS. One question I have though is do you think they'd cover a revision? Especially if the band was self pay? Also, my BMI is now under 40 (as of today it's 37.6)... my comorbidities have pretty much gone away, aside from slightly high cholesterol and I just found out I have 2 herniated discs (definitely related to obesity. I'm only 35, for crying out loud!) would they even ok it based on that stuff. I know no one here can say for sure. Just looking to see if any of you have had any experience with a similar situation. Thanks in advance! :)

  14. That's awesome! I originally lost 100 pounds over the course of two years after lap band surgery in 2009. I was in a pretty bad car accident at the end of 2013 and that led to a downward spiral of regaining 45 pounds. I'm happy to say that over the past few years, I've been able to drop most of that weight and only have 8 pounds left until I'm back at my low weight (and plan on going much further beyond that)! But it'd be wonderful to join a group of people who have been through it all before! Thank you!!
