    No change in hunger

You can't have sugar free pudding on stage 2?
  2. Shouldn't make a difference.. At my facility I've done bariatric cases on patients with broken arms shoulders feet whatever. It's not common, but it happens
  3. In addition to the comments about dehydration it sounds like the lump could be GERD as a lump in throat is a classic sign of GERD (and GERD is the biggest side effect of a sleeve). A phonecall to the office should be a priority
  4. I'll be around 2 weeks postoperative on Thanksgiving as well. I don't know what your diet has been like, but it's not a good idea to try a ton of things out in one day. Introducing foods slowly is important as some could cause a reaction. Also to the above poster I would be extremely cautious about cauliflower. Gassy foods can cause major abdominal pain and it's my understanding that cauliflower falls into that category.

    Too much?!?

Your overall numbers for the day are what matters. Are you getting enough protein, calories low enough, getting all the right vitamins and minerals (avoiding/minimizing sugar) As long as you're doing that and not suffering any side effects/problems (ie nauseous vomiting pain ) then however you're doing it shouldn't really matter that much.

    Hair shedding...

I mean some hairloss is natural and unavoidable but some (probably most) is absolutely from malnutrition as well. Years ago I crash dieted and lost the most weight I've ever lost in my life. I also lost the most hair I've ever lost in my life like where it looked extremely bad and I had never had surgery in my life.

    Number 2 problem

Also sleeved on the 13th same issue. I started taking colace twice a day and benefiber twice a day. I'm not having any stomach issues or feeling like I need to go, but I'd like to preempt any problems to save myself from unnecessary discomfort

    Freaking myself out

Had my sleeve on the 13th. I had actually gained weight when I got discharged from the hospital (was like day 4) but since then the numbers have started moving a little. I think once you settle into a routine you'll see the numbers decrease. 100g of protein a day sounds super hardcore. I struggled to hit 40gs my first few days, now I struggle to hit my daily goal of 60. If you could manage 100g of protein a day that's amazing. The 4oz at a time sounds like bullcrap to me. If I'm having something thick (like protein) I think 8 oz over an hour sounds reasonable. I don't think I could handle 8 oz in an hour but I'm also mixing mine with a variety of stuff to make it palatable and enjoyable to eat. But if I'm having broth or powerade zero I can easily have put down 10 oz in half an hour. As long as you're hitting your appropriate numbers and goals and not having side effects I don't think it matters how quickly or slowly you drink something. The going slow is usually so you don't end up nauseous or vomiting or with immense pain.

    12 days post op

Have you discussed benefiber with your surgeon ? I know constipation is a common issue post op so I asked plenty of issues about it preop. My Dr told me colace and benefiber were fine to take as soon as I'm out of the hospital. Metamucil I could take as soon as I could tolerate it, about a week after (haven't tried it yet) And keep miralax or any other extreme measures as a last resort. But benefiber and colace should be real options

    Sleeved and sent home

If you don't have complications I could certainly see going home the same day. My first day I was extremely high on narcotics, but from them on I've basically felt fine and would've had no issues going home. I ended up staying a few days for unrelated complications from anesthesia but other than that pain was extremely manageable with no nausea and vomiting. Walk enough (and have a good surgeon) and the gas won't be that bad either.
  11. Have a feeling I'll be the same with liquids week 2. Today I was able put over 10oz down in maybe half hour
  12. My surgery was a week after yours But I've read that hunger pains are less once you're on solids instead of liquid and purees

Anyone have CPAP and staple line leak?

I don't think using or not using it will make much a difference unless your AHI is high. That said I could reasonably say that if there was any reliable evidence that CPAP increased the risk of staple line leaks that no decent surgeon would want their patients using it (after all leaks are bad for patients, makes the surgeon look bad, and cost both the surgeon and facility time and money)

    Vitamins Post op

I'm 3-4 days post op and they had me advance to stage 2 and start my supplements . Weird how different the time frame is. I guess it depends how much nauseous and vomiting you get as well as how you tolerate everything

    Vitamins Post op

I just buy all my supplements directly from my doctors office. They sell the bariatric advantage stuff, and they sell them for cheaper than anywhere I could find online. I'm not a fan of their protein so I'll use something else going forward, but your surgeons office could be a good place to start
  16. Also sleeved Monday I feel like fluids I could suck down a solid 4-8 ounces in one shot. Protein has been a struggle, fills me up incredibly quickly. So I've been cutting down on many of my clears to go full effort on protein. I get really full and some pain in my stomach (usually short-lived lasts for 1-5 minutes max ) Then I just back off consuming anything for a good 45- hour and try again. I probably got close to 40g/day of protein the last 2 days, think I'm on track for 60g today which is right where I wanna be

    2 days post-op

I was sleeved Monday. I get some pain near my belly button if I move the wrong way, and the chest/left shoulder pain comes in waves (usually after waking) Never got nauseous or vomited. Never took any anti nauseous medication or anything. Tylenol and Omeprazole is all I'm on, with a rare percocet to go to bed Any chance that's diet related?
  18. Sounds like GERD to me Also 11/18/17 was this week, so your post is really confusing. Ive has something like that before my sleeve. Bad reflux caused inflammation, felt like a lump in my throat for several weeks. Takes a while to go away

    Protein shakes

Mix them with sugar free instant pudding. It's what I've been doing and it always taste good. Im a peanut butter guy so I've also been adding pb2 to vanilla and it's great. But regardless protein pudding is a simple yummy easy way to get your numbers

    4 days after Sleeve

Ive been getting the "pop rock" thing like the other poster mentions. Yours could be that or it could be GERD. did your doctor prescribe you something for reflux and discuss that with you?
  21. I was sleeved Monday. Purely on liquids and puddings. Had a large hiatal as well, I feel pretty good. Definitely some bloating and a tiny bit of stomach pain (short lived) after eating too much. Other than that a decent amount of abdomen pain

Cannot stick to pre op diet

They look at it. They don't check it preoperatively or anything. They stick the trocars and camera in and see the liver as they start the surgery (along with everything else) That said I've never heard of/seen a surgeon starting a case and aborting it because of the liver, and I've assisted with over 1000 cases. It's possible that because my facility doesn't do patients over 500 pounds, that that is reserved for patients north of 500 who may have extremely large livers. Or maybe for surgeons who aren't technically skilled and don't know how to retract a liver. That said of course you should follow the diet properly. I mean if you can't follow directions for 1-2 weeks when motivation compliance and enthusiasm should be at its highest, what is going to make you think you could do it for the rest of your life.
  23. Mhy12784

    4.5 more days

Same here with the 13th. Although knowing its coming so soon makes the shakes more tolerable

    Decided on sleeve or band

You'd really be crazy to get a lap band. I'd say they get taken out more than they're put in easily by a ratio of at least 25:1 if not much much more. That said there is reasons to get a band but very very few. The best reason I can think of would be as revisional surgery. For example a band over a bypass. Just as a reference point I work for a high volume bariatric surgeon. In a year we do around 600-800 sleeves 200-300 bypasses, around 100-150 lap band removals and maybe 3-4 lap bands.
  25. Depending on the airport you're flying out of. But if it's a decent sized airport I'd say there's an extremely probable chance you could buy a protein shake there. Or bring in powder to mix with milk/water Or a protein bar. Or just bring in your favorite lean protein source if choice. Unless it's 48 hours before surgery I have to imagine there would be no problem with eating lean protein for a single meal. But you could check with your office first
