There is absolutely no reason to go gluten free unless you have a REAL (not make believe) gluten allergy. A product that is gluten free COULD be healthier, it could also be complete ****.

How can I tell if fatigue is natural or from not eating enough calories? I'm exactly 5 weeks out, I'm not exactly exaughsted (I feel pretty good actually) but I have some massive brain fog, like my brain has reverted to a rather primitive state. I'm hitting my numbers protein wise but idk

Sleeved 12/14 - Scary Complications ?
Mhy12784 replied to Brandi.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Patients get Narcan all the time after surgery. Especially obese patients who are more prone to sleep apnea (which isn't always diagnosed) -
Awesome resource for plant based Proteins:)
Mhy12784 replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not to be negative or anything but that website is extremely biased trying to push an agenda. Listing popcorn as a protein that's as good as meat? Far as I'm concerned that gives that website 0 credibility -
Going on 2wks post op, feeling great, 64+oz fluid, 1000 calories
Mhy12784 replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I honestly don't remember my nutritionist giving me a number of calories to aim for daily just protein. But did they tell you that 1000 calories a day was the goal? I'm about 5 weeks out and I haven't come close to that, so I'm genuinely curious. -
Revision from sleeve to bypass
Mhy12784 replied to A_new_sara's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I havent had it done personally, but ive been in on many sleeve to bypass revisions. And honestly its not much different than somebody having a bypass for the first time. With a sleeve basically part of the bypass is already done, so it should in theory be easier for a surgeon to do a bypass on a patiet with a preexisting sleeve. The fact that youre so lean should probably make it even easier. I on the other hand dont know much about the strictures and stenosis and cant help you there. But I would imagine your experience will be very similar to anyone having a bypass, with the exception that youre gonna get a lot of confused looks because youre pretty lean -
Fatty liver disease is extremely common in the obese (I think something like 90% of the obese have it) Id say its relatively rare they do liver biopsies (purely from my experience id say maybe 1 out of 40 patients that ive seen sleeves gets them done). Ive never seen a surgeon do a sleeve instead of a bypass because of a fatty liver though. More than a couple times ive seen them have to do a sleeve instead of a bypass because of bad scarring and adhesions but thats about it. I dont know your stats but if youre on the very big side that could explain why, or it could just have to do with your actual liver, or the surgeons tolerance/comfort

Waking up with INCREDIBLY dry mouth after surgery

So I just ran out and bought some biotene and noticed it says "may cause staining" under warnings. Presumably this means your teeth? -
Waking up with INCREDIBLY dry mouth after surgery
Mhy12784 replied to Mhy12784's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally didn't even think about this. I'm definitely in ketosis (unintentionally) as my carbohydrate intake has been non existent and I'm definitely urinating frequently. I heard biotene can cause some gi issues as it's a powerful laxative. Any truth to that? -
Does a second surgery mean the weight comes off slower?
Mhy12784 replied to dolly30gs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't heard that, are you sure that's a real thing? (the metabolic shock thing, it doesn't sound very scientific) I know that revisionsal surgeries are more likely to be/have complications and the long term success rate of them is less (ie whatever underlying problems that caused the original ot fail could cause this to fail) But I would imagine that the weight should come off roughly the same. However you have to account for age and weight. If your original surgery was at 350 pounds at age 25 of course weight would come off much quicker than with a revisionsal surgery at 250 pounds at age 40 -
Just my experience with an airfrier. It's excellent for potatoes, frozen food (chicken tenders fish sticks fries basically **** we shouldn't be eating), and it's pretty damn good for faux fried foods (chicken and fish). I haven't tried it on anything else so that's all I know. As for the faux fried foods it really depends how healthy you wanna make it. Yes you could make chicken that taste like it was fried, but you'd have to add quite a bit of breading (if you want breading) and oil (yes you still use oil with air frying but MUCH MUCH less). For example I'm a picky eater and I've only enjoyed fish fried. The last few days I tried air frying fish. I probably used a tablespoon of fine almond flour (roughly 40 calories and this is enough for me to make 2 small meals) and a "spritz" of oil (I basically use a Pam spray bottle and barely give it a tiny bit of oil it's extremely little) The end product comes out very light with not much color, and has a little but not a lot of crunch. It absolutely does not taste like fried fish, however it is "close enough" that I could enjoy it especially knowing it's actually quite healthy. If you added a decent amount of oil (or used a moderate amount of breading or less healthy breading ie breadcrumbs) it would be less healthy and taste more fried. I think chicken is easier to make taste like it's fried if you brine it (not everybody likes brined chicken, I personally love it) Overall I am happy with my purchase and have no regrets but don't think it's a life changer either

That doesn't make any sense the liver stores glycogen. And corn syrup is sugar. Sugar in general doesn't give you that full feeling

How long before eating gets better?
Mhy12784 replied to Lainey H's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im almost 5 weeks out, and ive hated eating until today. I never had real problems (vomiting, severe pain etc) but eating was always awkward, slightly uncomfortable and always unenjoyable. Today I tried baking some fish (in an air fryer) with a tiny bit of almond meal on it (cant be too boring) and it was amazing. It was basically all protein, tasted like real food, and being that its fish it was so soft and tender that it gave me absolutely no problems chewing/swallowing and still had some texture to it. Was so good I even had the leftovers for dinner. I think this totally going to be my new favorite my go to food until im comfortable eating tougher foods (like beef and chicken) Now if only I could find fresh fish for less than 20$ a pound... Thank god a pound is like 5 meals for me though -
I mean the old forums was an absolute diasaster to navigate, it had subs and subs and subs which diluted the whole thing. Don't know if this is optimal, but it could be an improvement
-
If you're vomiting and having trouble keeping fluids down I wouldn't really call that failing Sucks sure, but it's not like you were doing tbe wrong things. Your body just wouldn't cooperate

The original snack is literally pure empty calories. Its not a lot, but it brings no fiber or protein to the table. Those quest chips are interesting, I gotta check them out. I need to do my homework and figure out if milk protein isolate contains lactose or not, I know most isolates usually dont, but im not famiilar with milk protein isolate.

I've seen too many threads asking about individual foods postop, figured I'd try to make a one stop shop here. -

What's people's opinions on cucumbers postop? I know they're basically an empty food (and also very low calorie). But if I'm hitting all my numbers and getting plenty of protein, are cucumbers a decent filler food? I'm losing at a great rate (yes it's early I know) and I don't want to add too many calories, and would love a little texture and flavor to mix it up from my protein barrage My biggest concern is I'm only 4.5 weeks post op, and I don't know when it's appropriate to incorporate these suckers into my diet. Reading through old threads on here were really inconsistent with some people talking about eating them at 3 weeks and others 3 months, and others talking about how fun they are to digest -
No loss since surgery 6 weeks ago!!
Mhy12784 replied to ColdWater99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While protein and water are vital to good health (and exercise is important), none of these things would stop you from losing weight with a caloric intake of 500-600 calories a day. Hell if anything I would imagine you would lose even more weight since you should be dehydrated and experiencing muscle wasting and catabolism. I dont think even your doctor can truly help you here, I think the solution is going to have to come from investigating and self education. With the most likely problems occurring with intake or weighing. Its entirely possible that theres something legitimately wrong going on the side unrelated to the Sleeve but I think thats improbable . -
Thats crazy, I didnt think it would be that much at 60 pounds (although youre a little on the shorter side). Out of curiosity are you older or younger ?

No loss since surgery 6 weeks ago!!
Mhy12784 replied to ColdWater99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I honestly just dont believe it. Something somewhere the facts have to be wrong. There is absolutely no fricken way possible that a 240 pound individual has not lost a single pound eating 500-600 calories a day in 6 weeks. Like you could have the worst hypothryoid in town and I still wouldnt believe it. Either youre having massive inconsistencies with the way you weigh yourself, youre wildly miscalculating calories, or something else is at play. I think you need to look at everything thats happening step by step and see whats going wrong. Are you weighing yourself at the same time under the same conditions in roughly the same clothes everyday ? Are you underestimating your calories (this is very common)? Are you severely constipated ? Yes everybody goes through stalls, but not losing any weight for 6 weeks at 500/600 calories a day at the START of your journey isnt a stall. Its a huge red flag -
How long before eating gets better?
Mhy12784 replied to Lainey H's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried lean ground beef today at exactly 4 weeks (I noticed it was on my plan for good to go as of today so why not) I totally overcooked it and the meat was a much leaner cut than I should have gotten. As a result it felt kind of tough to chew, and I dont think it was getting down to an "applesauce consistency" so I kept spitting it out. I did actually consume some, but I definitely dont think im ready to commit to tougher textures. Ill try some fish tomorrow and if that doesnt work im just sticking with protein shakes and scrambled eggs for a few weeks i definitely find myself afraid of taking risk when it comes to eating, theres no question about that. -
Quiting Anti-Depressants Post Op?
Mhy12784 replied to bbeeb33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I'd talk to your psych doctor ASAP. Post op WLS is a complete emotional Rollercoaster even for the most well adjusted of folks. I don't know anything about your history and why you're on the meds, but I think it would be extremely unwise to stop taking then without physician guidance. And based on my vague understanding of psych, but these meds tend to work rather slow. So it might take a few weeks for you to maximally feel the effects of being off these medications (just how it typically takes about 2 weeks for you to notice from effects of them when you start.) But I think this is opening the door for a lot of problems, and remember any drugs and painkillers they you got or are getting could be masking a lot going on upstairs as well -

I mean since this threads about popcorn now. Has anyone had popped Sorghum and is that even compatible as a post WLS snack? I just remember reading about it a while ago and this thread made me think of it. -
what kind of questions did you get asked during your psyc appointment
Mhy12784 replied to jesslynn32288's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The woman who did my psych interview was a lunatic, I seriously thought she was drunk or on drugs (im not kidding or exaggerating) She asked me questions like where did my cardiologist go to medical school, and several times asked me what my name was again.
