My fingers are crossed. I had an appt with my surgeon today. I still have a couple more things to mark off my to do list but they are thinking late October. I hope I get to join in with you all. [emoji7] I'm so ready to be healthy and not hurt.

lol yes! Thank you! I'm just ready to have it over. I've been waiting for what feels like forever! (6 month mandated diet). All I've heard is negativity. Congratulations on your successful surgery. I hope to be you one day soon! I'm having the ds in around November. 1 more month of the counseling, nutritionist, and classes! [emoji173]️[emoji173]️

My husband is my biggest supporter as well as my daughter. Other people that I have told don't seem to have a good reaction. I have gotten many rude and ignorant comments. It is a shame that some people do think this is the easy way out! They have no idea do they? LOL and some people make comments about my vanity, like the things we do for vanity! I try to stay calm and tell them the surgery is not for vanity it is for survival and health. It really gets me that I have to defend myself. I'm getting to the point where I don't anymore. I really don't care what they think. All I care about is being healthy and living a happy fulfilled life! I'm 3 months post-op gastric bypass. I've lost over 50 pounds and and feeling so much better and I'm so much happier. So hang in there and don't listen to the naysayers just listen to your heart!

You can try responding to critics with facts--it's a very safe surgery, safer than gall-bladder removal. Long-term weight loss without surgery is only successful in a tiny minority of cases; most people put what they've lost back on, plus more. The fact that people feel guilty about this and we're treated as being somehow weak and self-indulgent is shameful. There are many reasons for people being overweight but few lasting solutions--except this one. And, ultimately, it's your body--you shouldn't have to defend your decision to do something smart for yourself.
Best of luck!

My husband is super supportive. He's been with me and has seen my struggles through the years. He would always lose his 20lbs, and I'd lose nothing. He's seen the fasting, dieting, and then the guilt. He wants this for me. My best friend, my brother, and my grandmother are the only other ones I have. They all have negative/ rude comments. Like thanks, never thought to eat healthy!
My mom died 2 years ago of a stroke at 53. She wasn't nearly as over weight as I am. I fear that I don't have a 60 year old self if I don't do this! I'm only 28, I need and want to be here as long as I can. Thanks for the support! [emoji173]️

Yea, and ugh, this is why I am not sharing with my family (other than H and kids). Sometimes I wonder if their own regrets may be a factor. What would my 63 yo future self say to me if she had a time machine? I'm pretty sure she would kick my butt for staying obese and unable to live the life she/I deserves << maybe that is what my 75yo mom would think about my upcoming surgery, but about herself?

pfisher got a reaction from MowryRocks in First 5K walk completed
That's awesome!!! Congratulations!
I'm thinking of working toward one of those. There are a lot of fundraising 5k's scheduled over the next few months that are catching my eye. I noticed that you said you felt you could run it. Would you mind sharing any tips for those of us who are considering starting to run? I've been more a walking fan but running has a certain draw to it.

pfisher reacted to Redmaxx in First 5K walk completed
My wife and I completed our first official 5K walk on Sunday. We completed it in 56 minutes 38 seconds. I could have run it but my wife thinks she cant run so I walked it with her. It was fun and I am sure that we will do it again in the future.

Today is Day 1 of my liquid diet!!! Wish me luck!!!! I'm so worried about making it through the first 3 days and being cranky at work. I'm a person who gets Hangry!!!!!! Surgery is scheduled for 9/26! So excited though over a year in the making!!!! I don't want to screw that up!

@pfisherI know it's so frustrating to see the number go up. At least it is by a very small amount for you! I know even a few ounces can be upsetting to us though. People who have not had surgery don't understand as much. Just keep going! You will get there!

Willing to give this a shot. Gotta do something to get my exercise in so this may just be what I need to get back in the routine of exercising. New work schedule and back to school schedules have done a number on my previously settled in routine!

My apologies, I don't think people are ignorant. I know there are some words that are just dang confusing and for many. I still get confused w/ dessert and desert. I will admit, whenever I use the words, I check Google first. lol

@James Marusek
i think you started this list 3 years ago??
repeat it annually for newbies et al.
you do this wonderful "service". before YOUR time
it took me awhile to learn that NUT referred to a
nutritionist, not a crazy person, or something to eat
maybe we could add DW/DH for dear wife/dear husband -
OP - other person - WLS - weight loss surgery - always room
for new abbreviations - any one want to speak up.
you are a heck of a nice guy - aces - contributing to the board with
good info/thoughts/suggestions/support.
thanx
