  1. I have had terrible back/lung pain the past couple days. Im 23 days post op for the sleeve and I havent had 1 problem yet. Im just getting a little worried about what it can be. Maybe gas ? I can feel a pain when i breathe in ... I also was hanging pictures and working around the house earlier it could easily be a pulled back muscle. Any opinions or experiences ???

Maybe pleurisy or costochronditis? Those are just big words for respiratory infections that can be really painful. Pleurisy affects the lining of the lungs and costochronditis is inflammation of the lining around the rib cage and can happen after being exposed to a virus then hurting a muscle.

Just a thought. Could be any number of different things. Grab your trusty respiratory "toy" you received either before your surgery or after to help with lung function and see if that offers any relief. However, if the pain gets worse, or other symptoms develop, please seek immediate medical attention.

Hoping for the best for you!

  3. I am getting ready to go for a run this morning. It will be my first time at this distance 4.5 mi. My training plan has me gradually increasing my long runs and next Sunday I will be doing 6.0. I know I can do this. I am ready, it is exciting, but if I am honest it is also little intimidating seeing all of these dates on my calendar with 3.0-8.5 mi runs for the next 3 months. Gone are the quick 2 mile runs. I will need to get up a little earlier if I am going to be able to do a 4+ run during the week before work. I am proud of myself :) I never dreamed I would be a runner. My dh is joining me now on Sunday runs and it is great that we can do this together.

  4. Yesterday was my day!  After 10 months and 14 days, I can  now officially say I am 100 pounds down.  Forty more to go before I consider plastics.

  5. ANOTHER long stall finally behind  me.  I lost 2lbs in the last 4 days.  I am only 5 itty bitty pounds away from 100 lost.  My 10 month surgiversary is in 4 days.  100 in a year was all I ever wanted.

  6. Struggling at the moment, the last few days have been pretty bad. Feeling frustrated and angry. Have made some crappy eating choices since Monday and having an awful flareup of knee pain that is affecting my walking. Trying to stay positive and not let some bad choices affect my overall path.

      Hi...

Isn't is something how we can let some poor choices dictate so much sometimes? I've spent countless hours beating myself up over having a brownie instead of fruit. Which led to thinking that eating healthy wasn't something I could do, so why bother? And that's how I ended up being so miserable at my highest weight.

As I journey toward sleeve surgery, I'm working hard on not beating myself up when I fall. I decide that the next diet choice or exercise moment will be a healthy one. Then I follow through. And my husband keeps me accountable. Knowing he will ask how I worked off that brownie keeps me honest.

Keep making healthy decisions, forgive yourself when you slip, and don't look back. Keep moving toward the goals you've set for yourself.

  7. Meeting with the nurses and anesthesiologist on the 8th. I need to get blood work done then too. Surgery is scheduled for August 15th @  9:00. I'm excited at this time. and not really nervous yet. It has been long and drawn out fighting with my insurance on coverage. I started this journey February and it is finally going to happen. I just want to be off the medications and my c-pap. I hope the knee and feet pain go away or at least is more tolerable. So thankful for my supportive husband and family.

Good for you! This is so exciting! Having a supportive spouse and family makes a huge difference. As I'm working through the process to get sleeved, I'm also encouraging my husband who had sleeve surgery in April. He has been off diabetic meds and blood pressure meds since the end of May. He has no cartilage in his knees so they still hurt but he has more energy and generally feels so much better than he did a year ago.

      Wishing you all the best!!

  8. Wonderful Onederland!!!  My stall finally broke.  Saturday I was 199 and this morning I stepped on the scale habitually (I was going to wait a week to enjoy 199, hopefully  without seeing 200 creep back in there somehow) and I weighed 197.  Thanks for all the support and assistance getting me through what was one of the most emotionally painful stalls, EVER!!!!

  9. How did you all get the sticky residue left behind from the surgical bandages off of your body? I would think it would wear off after three weeks but I guess not. Any suggestions?

An alcohol wipe can work wonders sometimes.

  10. Just got back from a whirlwind STL to DC road trip and I am exhausted!  Back at the gym and back at work today!  No weight gained, but no loss either.  Stuck at 200 lbs.  Come on Onderland!!!

  11. After being out of work for almost three weeks, I am excited to get back to work in a few days. With that pressure off, I'm looking forward to getting a new routine going. I'll be working second shift so I know there'll be adjustments. Anyone else working second or third shift who can give suggestions or advice?

      Hi,

I've been a nurse for 17 years then worked in social services in long term care for the past year. Losing that job led to a job search that has landed me back in long term care nursing. The past few weeks had me concerned about finances and I'm looking forward to getting back in the game. I love my family and our time together is something I usually enjoy. But I'm also that mom that functions better working, if that makes sense? ;)

I look forward to hearing from fellow nurses!

Hope your week is starting off well!
