  1. What an emotional roller coaster these past few days have been! Lost my job Friday and have been battling to maintain some sense of a normal routine. I haven't kept up my walking routine and have been nibbling food since yesterday. Thankful for the support of my husband who is reminding me that this is the opportunity I've needed to find the job I'm passionate about. Haven't discussed this with the kids at this point and my daughter is already planning "an extra long walk" for tomorrow for the both of us.

Prayers, positive vibes, and kind thoughts/suggestions welcome as I navigate the job market at my age!

    Back on track tomorrow!!!

    Just had my 1st appointment

This is fantastic news! Wishing you both all the best. It is exciting! Hoping to get my surgery scheduled in December. My husband got sleeved in April. I wonder how many other partners are doing this together? Or have done so, if the surgeries are done. Just curious.

    Wondering something

Thanks so much for the positive feedback. I will continue to research and learn all I can about the process. Supporting my husband through his surgery has been a huge eye opener. Also I enjoy going to support meetings with him. It's so helpful to learn along with others as we share our experiences. Thanks again!
  4. So after deciding to start this journey, I saw my primary this week for the referral. I have my first appointment with surgeon scheduled in August. Have had some labs done as well. The oddest thing...I've dropped four pounds. In a week. After being stalled for two months. Go figure. So I wonder if I keep losing weight, will I get approved for surgery? My insurance says I have to be on a six month supervised weight loss before surgery can be scheduled. Even though I may keep losing weight, I know I will gain it back (and more) if I don't get sleeved, based on past history. Just curious if anyone else has had these thoughts?

    Wondering something

Thanks so much for the info and encouragement! Completely understand those compulsive eating habits! Has surgery helped as you manage those behaviors? I'm currently at 220 and have sleep apnea. Not sure about elevated labs yet. Still waiting on results. Hadn't been to my primary in nearly three years and was pre-diabetic when weight was near 245 then. I think I'm getting impatient. After losing 25 pounds this year in supporting my husband in his journey to sleeve, I'm ready to get healthier and feel physically good again. Thanks again!
  6. That's great!! Good luck as you continue your journey!

    Help!!!

Staying hydrated will definitely help with the feeling of light headedness. Plus it helps flush the anesthesia from your system. It can takes a while to get that stuff out of your body. Keep up the great work!
  8. Hi Dawn! The seminar my husband and I attended was very helpful, informative, and enjoyable. All of our initial questions were answered and even ones we hadn't thought about were discussed as well. I hope your experience is as positive! My husband was sleeved two months ago and says learning to pay attention to his body's cues has been a major factor in his loss of 50+ pounds. I am excited to get sleeved by Christmas and look forward to all the help and support on this site. Wishing you all the best and look forward to sharing in this journey. ☺

    Help!!!

I hope you're feeling at least a little better now. My hubs had a similar experience with the nausea after surgery. And his first night home he wondered if he'd made the best decision. By his second night home, he was feeling much better. Two months out, his only regret is not doing it sooner. Sending you prayers and wishes for comfort and fast healing!

    Help!!!

My husband was sleeved in April this year and said that he thought he was hungry for a day after the surgery. But by the end of the first day home, he didn't feel that way. He believes that it was "in his head" that he needed food. He wasn't really hungry. Just his experience. Hope this helps. 😃

    Starting my journey!!!

Hi BrandiJo, I received my referral to the surgeon yesterday. My first appointment with the surgeon is 8/9. Because of insurance requirements, my doctor supervised weight loss program has to be in effect for six months before surgery can be scheduled. My husband is a great support since he just had the surgery in April. He is doing well so far and has no regrets. He is totally onboard with my decision to get sleeved too. I can relate to your SO's concerns tho. We have had several discussions about how we will handle any increased attention from others as our weight drops. Keeping communication open, honest, with a good sense of humor has worked wonders! 😀 Wishing you the best of luck! Hope to follow your journey as it goes along.
  15. So I have decided to have sleeve surgery after being overweight for nearly all my life. What finally helped me quit waffling on the idea of surgery has been the combination of our grandson bringing so much love to our lives, wanting to be actively engaged in life again without physical pain, and seeing my amazing husband's success so far with sleeve surgery. I managed to lose 35 pounds as he worked toward his surgery date in April, supporting healthier choices and making changes in our lifestyle. I haven't lost one single pound since. Even doing the shakes twice a day along with him didn't help. He has been encouraging me along the way and wanted us to have surgery together but I wanted to wait and see how it goes. But it's time to make this happen. For me. For us. For our family. Any and all advice is appreciated and welcomed!
