Wow! I guess that just reinforces everybody is different. I drink my 64 oz of Water along with coffee and my Protein. I know my nutritionist told me before I left the hospital that when you drink broth, tea, coffee, or shake you can subtract it from your H2O amount. Guess different programs use their own menthods. Good Luck to you, I know you will do well.

My MD recomeneded 64 oz. Water daily. However that is to include the coffee/tea etc. that you drink that day. I have had no trouble consuming that much since my surgery on 7/18/18, but I drank A LOT of water/fluids daily prior to surgery

Anyone else have spasms? If so how long did they last?Hi! I had something of the same thing when I got home. It seemed to happen more if I took too big a sip or if the fluids were icy cold. The spasms have improved over the past week(surgery was the 18th). Hope that helps, good luck to you!

I’m truly grateful for the forums and peoples comments because it helped me.. out of surgery that evening I walked and was feeling great and then around 2am these spasms start happening... felt like contractions... it’s normal they say... of course abdominal pain and soreness and nausea... my first liquids I threw up 😠 but with all the medications I am able to tolerate some fluids... what I’ve realized is that if the liquid is too cold or to hot.. my stomach is not feeling it.. so I’ve been doing things room temperature.. I’m not trying to scare anyone... but this surgery was nothing like my gallbladder... much more pain... yesterday I was having buyers remorse, but today I am feeling a lot better.... if these spasms go away... I will be happy!!! One again thank you for the blogs that gave real information, because when it happens to me I said to my self.. that’s what the bloggers said would happen... I’m going to try full liquids to see if my stomach tolerates that per the surgeons order... I have 5 incisions and I got
Rid of the catheter on post op day 1....Hi! I am Post of Day 2 also. I am sorry you are having pain. I am lucky on only get spasms sometimes, and the pain meds are really helping. Keep your chin up, it will get better. The worst thing for me is going to the bathroom and not being able to twist to clean myself. Marriage vows never said “when your spouse can’t wipe themselves”, but my husband has been a saint about it. Wishing for your speedy recovery! Good Luck to you!

I will be leaving for the hospital in about 45 minutes! I am glad they are putting me to sleep, because I didn’t rest well at all last night.

I have a pair of hiking sandals made by Keen that I bring. The foot support when walking in the halls makes me feel much more comfortable. A sturdy pair of flip-flop sandals work too.
That is a great suggestion. Thanks!

I am on board for surgery on July 18th. Woo Hoo! Even though I have been a nurse since 1986, I have never been an actual patient! I realize I should only be staying overnight, but I like to be prepared. What did you take along that you found helpful or something you wish you took with you?
TIA

Good Luck to you!

My surgery is July 18. My pre surgery diet starts two days prior. It is a full liquid diet. Protein Shake city! The day before surgery I get to take a boat load full of laxative too. WOOOOOO HOOOOO!

I am sorry you are having such a hard time. First off, I would inform your surgeon of your situation. I am sure he/she would want to know your what you are facing in your life at this time, before your surgery is performed. This is major surgery and we all want to have a smooth and safe recovery. Wishing you the best. Stay strong,

Tomorrow I am allowed to eat regular beef, pork, lamb(not ground). Have been eating regular chicken, seafood, and fish since last week. Also can begin experimenting with different varieties of veggies, breads, cereals and grains. Will probably stick with a high Protein, low carb diet though
