  1. Lots of Docs take Medicaid but limit the Medicaid cases they agree to because Medicaid only pays $700 reimbursement which isn't even going to cover the supplies they use in surgery.

Doctors don't get charged for the supplies they use in the hospital, they are either on staff or charge for their services they provide. The hospital bilks/ charges for the room and supplies

  2. I finished all of the Medicaid requirements for surgery, and then the surgeon I was going to see stopped taking Medicaid. The only other doctors who accept medicaid won't see anyone outside Covington/NOLA or Thibodeaux. All Medicaid suggests is calling general surgeons and asking if they do bariatrics as well. I'm devastated and desperate. What can I do? I have no money or credit for self pay. Has anyone seen Dr. Dominguez recently who can plead my case? Should I move to NOLA temporarily? Should I call every day? What can I do? It's just not fair that I'm this close. Does anyone know if other states accept Louisiana Medicaid? They said it doesn't travel but I believe nearby states would accept it. It's United Healthcare Community Plan by the way.

Do you have a university with a medical center you can go too in your state? Usually, even if not state, they are not as "for profit" and will take you

  3. Getting sleeved in 10 days and I have only told my fiancé. I'm going to Mexico for my surgery and I'm starting to get nervous. I know this is the best thing to do for me to get a hold of my weight but I'm scared about my relationship with food. Worried about postoperative pain along with a 5 hour flight home.

Mine is the 21th. Only my husband knows and my boss. Haven't decided if i'm going to tell my kids, ever, or anyone else. It will hard since some people have watched me fail so many times and will ask when i succeed this time

Last night, was my second night with my new C-PAP machine and I could only stand it for two hours with the bloody mask on. God, I hope this surgery helps abate my obstructive sleep apnea.

It takes some getting used too. I actually ended up getting a different mask. I feel so much better with it tho! I had every symptom of sleep apnea, but all my other doctors have been blowing me off for years and telling me to loose weight.

  5. You doing so great.
I believe you figured it out. When you are obese, people don't see you. You are invisible , and when you are not, you try to make yourself invisible. I was at goal before, and it was hard because i didn't know how to handle people paying compliments and or guys paying attention to me. Its so much harder to hide. I wasn't obese all my life, so i can't imagine how difficult this is for you to adjust too. I think you really could use a local support group if possible.
But don't let that fear and attention stop you, you got this. Keep going!

Hi all, my surgery date for the sleeve is August 21st. Excited and nervous at the same time but anticipating getting this weight off! Since my spinal fusion in 03 and my spinal implantation in 2016 I struggled with my weight going up and down from 187lbs to 201lbs standing at 4'11". My mobility is limited due to my back. So some exercises are off limits for me. Prayerfully this will help and I can come off the most of the meds I consume.

Oh sorry, I totally get that, its a closed group so only those in the group should be able to see the posts and I tried to call it something that wasn't obviously weight loss surgery related for people who want to be more privet, but I completely understand the need for privacy ^_^

If you made it secret, than nobody could see the members.

I don't believe I have any sleep issues. My husband had sleep apnea, but since his surgery he hasn't had any problems!

every time I thought I was sleeping, I woke up exhausted. Now I know that those where the worst nights with my apnea. Women can feel it a little different than man. I would also wake up starving, although i had eaten a good healthy meal the night before.

I hope one day, they approve lower BMI without having to have problems first.

Good luck to you! and how lucky to have a hubby as an inspiration and journey buddy!

Hi I'm new here! I'm a college student and I'm 20 years old. I've set my surgery date which is August 2nd however I'm having major second thoughts I thought if I could join this website maybe I can get some good advice. So I'm supposed to be on my two week pre op diet I'm five days in and haven't started becuase I had every intentions on backing out on the surgery. Today I woke up and I'm battling between getting the surgery and not getting it. I just keep thinking on the negative out comes such as my 21st birthday is coming up I won't be able to do anything and I'm just super bummed about that also I can't lie I really do like food and I'm just thinking I'll never be able to go out with my boyfriend and eat again and I just keep battling with this and have no idea what to do! Any suggestions?

If you haven't started your pre-op diet, you need to contact your surgeon, he might want to reschedule your surgery since he ordered it and feels he needs your liver to shrink before surgery for a safer surgery.

As for your indecision. Only you can make that decision. You can see a psychologist and find out if you are emotionally ready. It is a lifestyle change to loose the weight just as with any other diet. This is a tool to help you, but you will have to replace your old bad habits with new healthy ones. Your relationship with food needs to change, are you ready for this? the sleeve is not a magic bullet to loose weight and keep it off. You still will need to eat healthy. As for "never" going out to eat again, that isn't true. You will need to make healthy choices an possibly eat smaller portions than what you eat now and stand your ground and take responsibility for your food choices and health.

    Good luck!

I am also getting the sleeve at ALM on August 27! I am very excited, but nervous as I have to go by myself due to my husband not being able to get off work. He just had a gastric bypass in Virginia; he is 5 weeks out and already lost 30+ lbs. His BMI was over 40 so our insurance covered his surgery. (Un)fortunately, I have no co-morbidities so our insurance company won't pay for my surgery. Thus, Mexico here I come!

we are about the same height and weight. My surgery is on 21st. Did you have a sleep study? Just asking because i never thought i had sleep apnea, but turns out I do.
