    FREE Nutrition advice

I was wondering, my doc is always saying to eat more protein, eat more protein and mentions having like almonds, nuts, ect..... but when I look at the labels, some of them are high in fat.... When looking at labels, should I be more concerned with the protein in an item or the fat? or calories? Also, how many calories a day should I be eating?

    Calorie intake ???

Great info on the calories, I wasn't sure about that either. My other thought though, is protein vs. grams of fat.... Like my doctor always tells me that I should be having like nuts or something for protein, but for like 13 grams of protein, there is 25 grams of fat in it? Is fat content something that I should still be worried about, or just the protein?

    Aunt Flo Question.........

Thanks for the info Donna I'd hope that I wasn't premenopausaul, I'm only 26 so I shouldn't be But weirder things have happened.... Anyways, I was thinking that it could have been my nutrition or weight affecting it.... I guess, I'll just wait and see what happens next month, and if I still don't get it, I'll go in :tt2:
  4. I was banded on April 29th, and everything went fine. I haven't really lost a ton of weight or anything, but for about the last 3 months a friend of mine and I have been walking every day for an hour at lunch..... well, until about two months ago, I had been getting Aunt Flo around the same time every month for about a week (whereas pre-op I'd been getting it anywhere from two weeks to two months), well anyways....... So now for the last two months I haven't been getting it at all.... Is this something that I should be concerned about? is it because I've been walking? Anyone else have this happen? Thanks!
  5. I'm such a panicker when it comes to thinking about this. I have a really bad cold right now, and tonight I coughed so hard that I started throwing up. So my question is, is how easy is it to have the band/port to slip? Do I have anything to worry about? That's the one thing I didn't think I'd worry about so much with this, but I just worry so much about it slipping.

    OK...I'm in a PANIC

I'm surprised that it goes down for you when you drink something. Whenever I forget and drink something, or drink something too soon after eating, it instantly starts to force whatever I eat back up.
  7. IMO, it all depends on the doctor you have and each patient is different. I've had a total of 6 fills so far, and honestly, when it's time for a fill, I can't stand it. When they did my surgery they put my port in crooked, so I have to go to fluroscopy for it. She does numb me, but it takes her sooo long to find it that about half way through it, I'm unnumb already. All in all, mine take about an hour to do. IMO, not fun... at all...

    Losing Hope

I don't have any advice for you, but I wanted to say that I know where you're coming from. Today I had my sixth fill, and found out that I had gained 4 lbs. I've been watching like crazy what I eat, walk for an hour once a day, and this is what I found out.... I'm trying not to lose hope also, but sometimes it's just so hard.
  9. I'm sure that this has been asked/answered before, but I'm not sure where to look, so I was wondering, how many calories should we be having a day? I'm trying to keep track on mydailyplate.com and wasn't sure.. Thanks! -Vanessa
  10. Like what I mean is, is since having lost almost 40 lbs so far, now when I have coffee, chocolate or pop I get all jittery & kinda hyper , that has never happened before. It wouldn't matter how many coffees I had. Now, I'm practically bouncing off the wall ---- awesome time to go for a walk than. Has anyone else had that happen? I don't drink (only have once, and alcohol never affected me either), but I'm thinking if I did, that'd probably affect me too now.

    Starting out exercising?

I'd like to start out exercising, but I don't know how to go about doing it. Like for how long? How often? I have a treadmill, so I'd really like to use that, but I end up getting tired pretty easy. How did you guys start out?

    !st band fill

My doctor told me that the fills were necessary in order for the band to work the way it should completely. Would you drive a car without any gas in it? The gas is something that helps your car run, so why would you get a band and not want to have the fill, to help it work completely?

    Wishful thinking - eating out

My doctor told me that I could have bread as long as it's toasted. So if I get something like a hamburger or that type of a sandwich, I make sure it's toasted. I did try a chunk of a regular type sandwich today, just to try it, and I found that while it didn't get stuck or anything, it did make my stomach feel kinda icky.

    Time off work?

I only took four days off. I had my surgery on a Tuesday, and went back to work the following Monday. I wasn't as sore on Monday as much as I just felt physically worn out and wiped. I probably could have used a few more days at home.
  15. Hmm, I'm glad I haven't had any issues with that yet. I'm always chewing gum!

    Wishful thinking - eating out

When I go out to eat, I automatically just cut my meal in half. I cut my sandwich in half & then quarter half of it, and then if it's fries or fruit or something like that, I split that up. Then I just ask for a take out box so I can take it home. That way I get two or three meals out of it at least
  17. Hi, I was just wondering, how long after your surgery do you have to wait before you can put lotion on? I had my surgery on 4/29, and my surgery area just feels raw, and I'd like to put lotion on it, but didn't know if there was a certain amount of time that you had to wait? Thanks!
  18. that I'll have gained weight. I've been able to eat soft/regular type food, and I'm sooo scared that I'll go in and find out that I gained ten or twenty pounds. Did anyone gain weight before their first fill? Don't get me wrong, I haven't been binging or anything like that. I eat nowhere even close to what I used to, it's just all different stuff not just liquid now. So now I'm scared. It's strange, I used to not care if I gained weight, now I'm crossing my fingers and toes that I don't!
  19. I'm looking for a new scale and was just wondering, what types do you guys have? Do you have one that you really like? Also, another question that I had was, when weighing yourself, does it matter what type of flooring you weigh yourself on (ie carpet, tile, ect.)? Also, the flooring in my house is crooked due to the shifting of my house, and does it matter if the floor isn't completely flat? Thank you!
  20. I had surgery on 4/29 and now I'm on the soft foods phase. In the morning, I eat Breakfast (a serving of rice krispies which is 1 1/4 c) around six and around 9 o'clock, I'm absolutely starving to the point where my stomach is growling and I feel like i'm going to be sick. If I have a snack then, than I'm usually hungry again around 11, and I can't go to lunch until 12:30. In the afternoons I seem to do much better. I don't know if I'm eating enough, or even if I should be eating more or less? Can someone tell me if I am doing alright? I'm sooo worried about going in and finding out that I gained weight when I go in on the 29th for my first fill. Here's my menu for during the day: Breakfast: Rice Krispies w/milk Snack: yogurt/or applesauce Lunch: 2 tbsp. tuna w/4 saltine crackers Fruit cocktail cup string cheese Snack: jello/pudding (optional) I'm sooo afraid of falling back into the way that I used to, I don't want to stay overweight. I've lost 30 lbs since I've had the surgery done, and I don't want to mess this up. Can anyone give me some advice?
  21. Back in January when I found out that I could be having my surgery done soon, I went and spoke with the office manager about how I would be needing to have time off for this surgery. At the same time, I had asked if perhaps I would be able to have a differently scheduled lunch time for awhile because of it being the lapband surgery I needed to be on a pre-op diet, and I didn't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable at lunch with just having a shake (we have a lot of nosy people at my work). She assured me it was fine (which I ended up not doing anyways, I just stayed with the same lunch time), and that whatever I told her was confidential, and so forth. A week later I found out that she mentioned it to the HR Manager, which I thought was fine, seeing that he is the HR Manager. Now, a week after my surgery, I find out that that isn't the only other person she told. A friend of mine, is an assistant to one of the producers, and he asked her how I was doing, and she acted dumb and said, well what do you mean? and then he said, well you know what I mean, her surgery. Everyone knows she had it done. I am soooo upset and hurt by this. I had been told that what I was saying was confidential. If I had wanted everyone to know what I was doing, I would have told them myself. And, he didn't even have the guts to ask me how I'm doing to my face, he had to go and ask someone else. The worst part of it all is, is now I'm actually ashamed and embarrassed that I've even had it done. Because a lot of the people that I work with are kinda snooty and they are sooo perfect, and I just know that he thinks that it's just the lazy way to lose weight. Until now, I thought that I was doing the right thing, now I'm not so sure. Thanks in advance guys. I'm sooo upset about this, I was devestated when I found out yesterday, and now this morning, I could still cry... :frown:
  22. I was banded on 4/29, and today juice sounded wonderful to me. So I bought a 100% fruit juice (I think Everfresh), and had some (not even half), and while it tasted great, my stomach has just been kinda flip flopping. Is it because of the sugars in it? Is there a certain type of juice that is better for banders? TIA!

    Lap Band with Hiatal Hernia?

How do you know if you have a hernia? I'm having surgery on Tuesday and they had me sign a paper saying if I have one that they can fix it. Wouldn't I know if I'd had a hernia?

    Liquid diet starts tomorrow.....

I've been on this liquid diet for two weeks now, and I was told that the reason that I need to be on it is because it shrinks your liver. Well, my question is, is that how do you know that your liver is shrinking? What if I get to my surgery day and find out that my liver hasn't shrunk? Also, this weekend I was baking brownies for my dad to take up to his work, and I had a mini sliver of it, does that ruin it? Just wondering...........
