    Hello,
Yes, we had several deep discussions as well as a therapist who helped me weigh the cons and pros. The cons of being so heavy and it restricting my life goals ultimately is the reason for the surgery. I didn’t do this surgery to help my self esteem but did it so my heart and lungs can be healthy.

I was supposed to go home the next day but that didn’t happen. I was dry heaving and couldn’t drink so I got to stay until I was holding Fluid down which was 3 nights. I’m 8 days out now :) feeling pretty great. Ready to get these staples out lol

Due to insurance and scheduling issues, I had to wait 8 months before my surgery. This gave me a LOT of time to weigh the pros and cons, examine my motives, and get psychologically ready for the change. It is different from other surgeries - this is ELECTIVE. You are choosing to put yourself at risk. Like many others, I lost hundreds and hundreds of pounds on my own..... only to have it all come back, plus. After a life time of this, my metabolism was totally screwed up and the brain-stomach-hormone mechanism was also screwed up. I had no "stop button." I never felt full. I ate very healthy food, but could never stop once started. Meanwhile, I had given up, wheat, sugar, all artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, alcohol, caffeine. I ate nothing fried, only healthy grains, my homegrown veggies/poultry/ and eggs. I maintained an active lifestyle with my garden and animals.
One day, feeling afraid of the surgery, I suggested to my PCP that perhaps I should just try again to do it on my own. She very kindly told me, "If you could have done it on your own, you would have." She was right. I was just fooling myself, maybe thinking I was weak for not being able to do it on my own. But I came to the realization that my body would NEVER lose weight because of all the damage I had previously done. Weight Loss Surgery was the final tool I needed to bring my metabolism and hormone mechanisms back to a more normal baseline.
I was still scared, even laying on the Pre-op bed, I was crying and told my surgeon I was just scared about making such a big decision for an elective procedure. He reassured me that none of his patients had ever come back to him and said they wished they had never done it. He was right. I am only 3 weeks post op. I did have a complication that has now been handled, and I can say that my life looks so different. I feel better already, having lost 31 pounds since beginning the pre-op diet. I am very, very glad, even at this early point, for having done the surgery. I think this is one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life.
Preop, it is like you are looking up at a cloud layer that is obscuring the sun. All you see are shadows (doubts.) Afterwards, it is like you are flying above the clouds in the sunshine, looking down at the clouds that are now bright and white. It's all about the perspective of where you are, and you can never get above the cloud layer unless you bravely make the decision to go forward.
That being said, you must be determined that you will do everything you can after surgery to be successful. No cheating, no compromise. Surgery is a tool - you still have to do your part. My best suggestion is to give up all addictions BEFORE surgery so you don't have to deal with them on top of the recovery. (Caffeine, sugar, simple carbs, processed foods, artificial anything, alcohol, and of course smoking.) Determine that these are lifestyle changes that you will never go back to. That is my slogan: "I'M NEVER GOING BACK!"

Scheduled 28th and lots of mixed emotions now... mostly can't wait to start this journey. That and buying up Protein products like an international Protein smuggler and last but not least... got a brand new Water bottle....
Week into scaling down intake and my pre-op is low calorie and zero carbs.... then 3 days before surgery liquid only. The tough part is NO coffee...
Best of luck to all and speedy recovery for those that are post op

I am staying an extra night in the hospital. I haven’t been able to get many liquids down and I have a large hematoma on my right side, still in a considerable amount of pain.

They put a binder on me to try to help some of the swelling. I’m starting to walk more which is helping the gas pains greatly and like they told me, it’s great to burp but farting feels better lol it’s true!

I’ve had a few sips of broth, I prefer the warm over the cold but none of it tastes good. I’m not hungry at all. It does bother me when they bring food in and my stomach growls. It’s apparently hungry but I am not ready yet.

The worst part about the whole process was the day nurse. I have felt very alone and I had to beg for pain medicine (which was only Tylenol with codeine) even though I was over due it still took him an hour to come with it and by then I was a crying mess. I would prefer to stay ahead of the pain so I can focus on drinking and walking and not on the pain. I know they are busy, I can hear all the racket out there but the pain has been pretty bad. :(

Just had my surgery on Thursday. The gas pain in my shoulder is unreal right now. But I’m feeling more human everyday. The biggest thing that I wasn’t anticipating is how exhausted I am. I’ve been sleeping a lot but looking forward to feeling better in the days to come.

I had my surgery yesterday! I was really nervous but the team and the nursing staff have been great. Like a lot of people have said the gas pain is pretty unpleasant; walking really helps but I think the pain medication helps even more. I’m up and about but napping a lot. Looking forward to the end of these sharp gas pains in my shoulder and chest but feeling well supported in the interim. Hope everyone is going well leading up to, and post, surgery.

First time poster long time lurker.. I want to thank everyone who does post as you provided me with a great deal of information!!
I was just sleeved yesterday and I'm sitting here in the hospital hoping to be released later today.
I am really have alot of nausea issues and acid reflux issues. I have been given medicine for both of those issues with limited success.
I had some soreness accociated with the incision but it wasn't necessary a pain.. except when I first got out of bed to walk!
Hardest part for me last night was dealing with the gas pains in the center of my chest. I seemed to have turned the corner of that hopefully as I am feeling better now.
I haven't tried anything except room temperature Water and trying to sip on a Decaf tea now. My Doctor suggests hot liquid as it forces me to sip slowly and not over do it. I was offered clear chicken broth and Jell-O but couldn't stomach the thought of trying them.
Anyway I'm excited for this new journey and thank you all again for getting somewhat prepared.

OK so for me...It works. Pre-op was able to swallow all the pills. Post-op not a one. So I did the Patches. The one that did the most incredible work the I noticed right a way was the night time menopausal. The night time hot flash is under control. I put them on my stomach, hips, side or my arms. I change it around. I will wear up to 4 or 5. I figure cover all the basics. LOL hair, Multi, Calcium, sleep, Vitm. D, Anti-aging. I can't hurt. I can now take pills, so I do both. They had a special sale of 50% off and I went to town. Labs are good.
