  1. Asalamo Alaikum [emoji5]

As I stated in another post..

I will be starting my pre-op diet on June 20th, so just a week-ish before Eid. I don't want to risk screwing up my surgery *OR* my health. And as@Israh said, as it is for medical reasons, Insha Allah, not fasting for those days would be permissable.

My pre-op diet is very specific and requires me to consume a certain amount of calories, liquid (including Water and Protein shakes), etc thru out the day. I wouldn't be able to do it if I was fasting. Also, I work very tough hours and I can't risk becoming ill because I couldn't consume enough calories or water to keep me going.

So my plan is to complete my liquid diet, hopefully have a successful surgery. And after I heal I will make up the missed fasts, as long as my body allows me to.

We aren't supposed to make our Deen difficult for ourselves. If you still feel conflicted, I would say contact your surgeon and possibly reschedule your surgery a few weeks after Eid.

  2. Because of my very demanding work schedule, I rarely have time to do anything! But I had a shortened shift so I was able to schedule my preadmission testing in. 26 days before the actual surgery date but... My hospital allows it.

Anyways, during the visit, I had some lab work down and other final tests. The last bit of the visit was an interview with a nurse.

She went over the basics and collected my information as one. One of the things she advised of kind of caught me off guard...

She explained that I would only be expected to stay the night of my surgery and most likely be discharged the next morning.

Is that normal?! Everywhere I've seen, everyone who has had the surgery stays at least 2 nights, unless there are complications that warrant a longer stay.

I don't mind going home early, I'm just concerned what if I don't do something right?! Or what if something goes wrong?!

How long was your hospital stay?

  3. If you do what your nutritionist and surgeon advise, you'll do fine. Just be patient and plan ahead for your meals. I eat pretty much the same thing for breakfast and lunch every day. dinner varies but it revolves around lean Proteins and fruits or veggies. I eat three 4oz meals a day with one 8oz Protein drink before my breakfast. The protein drink is one scoop of Allmax Isoflex zero sugar chocolate Peanut Butter and 8 oz of soy milk. The powder is 27g of protein and the soy milk is 8g, giving me 35g of protein. It took a lot of trial and error to find the right combo of protein powder and milk to drink but this one is pretty good. For some reason, I can't drink cow milk any more. I can eat all other sorts of dairy, just not milk. I can drink it, I just don't like it. Lastly, I drink 100oz of Water a day.

    I hope that helps.

    Good luck!

This is great! Thank you so much. Saving it so I can refer back post op [emoji106]

  4. Well this just got real!! I just talked with the insurance company and they said I was approved for Gastric Bypass on June 21st! I am super excited but equally nervous now also! A lil bit scared of the pre op liver shrinking diet also, I know it's gonna be tough but I can do it!!

Congrats!! And yes you can!! [emoji123]

Kgs CW 105.2 kgs, surgery 27th June?

    Asalamo Alaikum!!

Im starting my pre-op diet June 20th, so only a week before Eid but... I've decided I'll skip the fasts during this time and Insha Allah make them up after I've healed.

I don't want to risk screwing up the diet and possibly having to reschedule the surgery or getting dehydrated and sick.

  6. I feel have no one to tell! My husband flat out refuses to talk about it. He says I'm going to fail at keeping the weight off, and that I'm cheating by having the surgery. My brother will just say I'm only doing it cause his wife did 2 years ago. My best friend had hers done 4 yrs ago and has gained most of her weight back because she eats junk all the time, so I know she will be constantly comparing me to herself. Or stop talking to me WHEN I'm successful at losing the weight and keeping it off. My in laws and other family will just chalk it up to me never being able to do anything right without cheating. So I don't know how to go about having surgery without even letting my husband know.

I agree with Berry78... As long as you tell your husband, regardless if he supports you or not, you can also tell him you wish to keep it private and not share it with his family. But, he does need to know.

Don't bother telling anyone who will be toxic and unsupportive. Focus on you and your goal.

I love your can-do attitude!! Prove the nay-sayers wrong!!

Also, keep in mind that people will have their opinions and comments regardless.

  7. You are right. It's no one's business. I've told those who have asked what I'm doing to lose weight that I cut out rice, bread, Pasta, sodas and sweets. I eat 4 small meals a day and Protein Shakes. lol.. I was sleeved 4/25/17 I've lost 31lbs. I'm still waiting to get to the point where I feel that this is the best decision I've made. I'm not there yet. Good luck to everyone.

Thats a great idea, telling other about just the dietary changes ... And it's all true [emoji12]

And 31 lbs?! That's fantastic!! Congratulations on your loss/ success already! And good luck on the rest of your journey!

  8. I have only told my immediate family (parents and siblings) and plan on keeping it that way.

I haven't even told my coworkers that I'm having a procedure. I have already begun eating healthier and making a conscious effort to better myself, and they're aware of that because I'm "dieting" with one I of my co-workers. I've also joined a gym.

Also, I'll be taking a 2 week "vacation" from work during my surgery so they'll never be the wiser.

I thought about saying I was getting my gallbladder removed or some other excuse, but it's not that I'm ashamed of that I'm trying to keep a secret. It's just not ones business and I don't feel the need to share information and allow room for unwelcome advise or comments.

  9. Hi guys and gals!!

I'm new to the forum, so forgive me if this isn't posted in the correct area.

    A little about me;

I'm 28 years old. I started this journey back in October of 2016 - I went to my first information session and then wasted 3 months doing research and really thinking about it and finally got the ball rolling in December of that year. I have now been approved by insurance (YAY!!) and am scheduled to have gastric bypass on July 5th (Double yay!!)

I have a 2 week pre-op diet, I have met with my nutritionist and think I have everything I need to begin.

I have my final pre-op appointment scheduled with my surgeon on June 22nd. I have a very small list of questions that I'll be asking my surgeon during our last visit before the surgery but...

    What questions would you recommend?

    What questions did you ask?

What do you wish you would have asked/ known before the surgery?

    Thank you in advance.
