  1. Hi everyone please help, today I applied mehndi to my hands and my op is on Tuesday, someone just told me that they don't allow to operate with mehndi, is it true, please help with any advice, I am so so stressed out

    I've never heard this...
I mean they operate on patients with tattoos.

Unless your mehndi is on your abdomen [emoji23] I don't see how it would be an issue.

  2. Hi everyone, I've been on this site for about six months now, but I've never interacted much. Having said that, every one of you have greatly helping me in making a decision about surgery. Original bypass was scheduled for June 21, but due to unforeseen circumstances, postponed until July 12th. Was really having second thoughts, simply because of all of the negativity from family and friends. I've finally decided to do what's right for me, after many late nights of watching videos and reading all of your stories. I start my pre-op on Wednesday, so I stocked up on yogurt, sugar free Jello, Premier Protein drinks, and unflavored Protein powder. So, any ideas what I can do with the unflavored powder? I added it to Water, with a few drops of Mio, and it coagulated, forming a type of chewing gum! [emoji33][emoji33] Was actually kind of disturbing. So I need some ideas on how to use this powder... Any suggestions? Thanks everyone, for being my support system, without even realize you were doing it [emoji16]

Congratulations!! I just started my pre-op diet today!!

I was in the same boat regarding second thoughts because of unsupportive people in my life. But, like you, I had to remind myself that this was for *me* and *my* future!

Regarding the unflavored protein, I plan on adding it to unsweetened jello for non-alcoholic jello shots. I'm also going to be making Bone Broth this weekend, so I'll add some to that as well. Or store bought veggie organic broth?

  3. Yes my taste changed drastically after surgery. I could not drink coffee for almost 4 months! Dr told me it would come back & it did going into 5th month. But you will always need Protein drinks. I am having a hard time finding unflavored protein. I went to 2 GNC stores, where do u buy?

Yes GNC has it online and I'm not sure if they have it in store. But I know for sure The Voice Shoppe has them in store. Also, they currently have a sale where if you purchase any Isopure product, the second is half off. So I just purchased 2 of the 3lb unflavored protein powder!

  4. Hey guys and gals!!!

My surgery date is coming up soon and I've decided to document my journey!

I've created an instagram account and would love to follow others that have already been on this journey (Post-op members) or those who are pre-op as well!

Please PM me your IG id or share it here! [emoji106]

Or if you know of any wls ig accounts that are motivational, please share those as well.

  5. I think it is the complication risk that scares me. I had another (not related) simple procedure years ago that left me with irreversible nerve damage. It was one of the risks that was listed among the 1001 others. You always think "oh, that won't happen" but it did to me. 12 years of chronic pain later, I really read the possibilities.

I'm so sorry you went thru that :(

As you're well aware, there are risks with every procedure. But try to focus on the rewards you'll get from this one!!

Good luck! I hope you have a smooth and speedy recovery!

  6. For fasting, you really need to listen to your body, God is merciful and grants us mercy if we physically cannot do what we are supposed to. Your body is not in a regular state and you need to listen to what it needs. I had the VSG op around 10 months ago and there's no way I could have fasted during the liquid stage. Alhamdulillah I am fasting now, it is difficult but doable and I try my best to get my Protein and Water in. Allah ghafooron ra7eem and fasting is supposed to help us and not starve us. Listen to your body and if you cannot fast, there's no shame in it.

My surgery is scheduled for July 5th as well [emoji322] we're surgery buddies!

    I have a 2 week pre-op diet starting 20th of June.

  8. haha... i'm nervous too. i'm two weeks away!
all i know is that if they let me out after one night, that's a GOOD thing and i'll be thrilled. that means the surgery went very easy and well and nothing is wrong in the slightest. bass in the space means peace see ya later.

Sigh... That's very true. I guess I'm just being paranoid!

Thank you both for talking some sense into me lol

I would love to be home and in my bed, I just don't want something to go wrong [emoji85]

  9. Salams!
I'm wondering why my doctor doesnt have me starting the liquid pre-op diet earlier. My surgery date is June 28, and I was told to start it June 21, so one week before.

    Walaikum Asalam

Pre-op diets vary from provider to provider, and are generally based on the type of surgery you're having and your overall health (I believe).

Some surgeons require 2 weeks, some require 1. Some don't even have a "pre-op" diet other than full liquids the day before surgery.

  10. Salams jene786,

Based on what my doctor and nutritionist said. I have 2 shakes a day (Celebrate with trim/skim milk) and 1 meal of 100-120 grams of Protein (chicken, seafood, Beans, eggs, lite cheese) and 2 cups of non-starchy vegetables. I haven't had any vomiting or other problems with it thus far. Alhamdulillah.
So I have a shake for for suhoor, then have a little bit of protein to breakfast with a date. Then have meal about 30 mins later with rest of protein. Then have final shake 3 hours later.

But when are you getting your Water in?

My surgeon expects me to get 64+ ounces of water in daily... I can't imagine doing that before suhoor and after iftaar. [emoji29]

I feel guilty... But I truly don't think I'd be able to get into ketosis unless I followed the diet my nutritionist/ surgeon provided.

  11. well they won't let you go before it's completely safe, so don't worry about that.
complications from surgery aside... if you're young, with no comorbidities, there's no reason you shouldn't be on your feet and ready to go the next day.
my doc told me he'll probably keep me one night.

    Thank you!

That makes me feel a little better.

I should know better. I'm just nervous.
