    Hospital stay for Gastric Bypass?

I actually just posted this a couple days ago but I guess I posted in the wrong section... But my nurse told me I will most likely be staying over night! My surgery is scheduled for 12:30pm, and I'll probably check out around 8am the next morning. Kind of panicking because I'm not sure that's enough time!!

    Fasting and liquid diet

This is so exciting!! [emoji322] [emoji322] I don't know why but I didn't expect to meet anyone of my culture or religion who was going down this path! Let alone with surgery dates so close to mine!!

    Itching around surgical wound

As@Neyy said, some itching is normal. Signs of an infection may include fever, erythema (redness around the surgical site), swelling, excessive warmth around the surgical site, pain, drainage at the site and surrounding tissue.

    Fasting and liquid diet

Asalamo Alaikum [emoji5] As I stated in another post.. I will be starting my pre-op diet on June 20th, so just a week-ish before Eid. I don't want to risk screwing up my surgery *OR* my health. And as@Israh said, as it is for medical reasons, Insha Allah, not fasting for those days would be permissable. My pre-op diet is very specific and requires me to consume a certain amount of calories, liquid (including water and protein shakes), etc thru out the day. I wouldn't be able to do it if I was fasting. Also, I work very tough hours and I can't risk becoming ill because I couldn't consume enough calories or water to keep me going. So my plan is to complete my liquid diet, hopefully have a successful surgery. And after I heal I will make up the missed fasts, as long as my body allows me to. We aren't supposed to make our Deen difficult for ourselves. If you still feel conflicted, I would say contact your surgeon and possibly reschedule your surgery a few weeks after Eid.
  5. Is your surgeon aware that you have slept apnea? As far as I know... Sleep apnea patients are required to go for a sleep study before being cleared for surgery?
  6. This is great! Thank you so much. Saving it so I can refer back post op [emoji106]
  7. Fantastic!! Congratulations!! Very very encouraging! I'll be having RnY on July 5th. Fingers crossed I'm as successful as you! Any words of wisdom? Tips?

    Approved!!

Congrats!! And yes you can!! [emoji123]
  9. Asalamo Alaikum!! Im starting my pre-op diet June 20th, so only a week before Eid but... I've decided I'll skip the fasts during this time and Insha Allah make them up after I've healed. I don't want to risk screwing up the diet and possibly having to reschedule the surgery or getting dehydrated and sick.
  10. I agree with Berry78... As long as you tell your husband, regardless if he supports you or not, you can also tell him you wish to keep it private and not share it with his family. But, he does need to know. Don't bother telling anyone who will be toxic and unsupportive. Focus on you and your goal. I love your can-do attitude!! Prove the nay-sayers wrong!! Also, keep in mind that people will have their opinions and comments regardless.
  11. Thats a great idea, telling other about just the dietary changes ... And it's all true [emoji12] And 31 lbs?! That's fantastic!! Congratulations on your loss/ success already! And good luck on the rest of your journey!
  12. I have only told my immediate family (parents and siblings) and plan on keeping it that way. I haven't even told my coworkers that I'm having a procedure. I have already begun eating healthier and making a conscious effort to better myself, and they're aware of that because I'm "dieting" with one I of my co-workers. I've also joined a gym. Also, I'll be taking a 2 week "vacation" from work during my surgery so they'll never be the wiser. I thought about saying I was getting my gallbladder removed or some other excuse, but it's not that I'm ashamed of that I'm trying to keep a secret. It's just not ones business and I don't feel the need to share information and allow room for unwelcome advise or comments.
  13. July 5th for me!! I was more excited than nervous a few days ago. Now it's the other way around [emoji85]

    Dating horrors

I'm sorry you had to deal with that nonsense, but better sooner rather than later. (What I mean is you found out that he wasn't a good person after getting close it attached) But when does one know what is the "right" time to share that they've had wls? 🤔

  17. Hi guys and gals!! I'm new to the forum, so forgive me if this isn't posted in the correct area. A little about me; I'm 28 years old. I started this journey back in October of 2016 - I went to my first information session and then wasted 3 months doing research and really thinking about it and finally got the ball rolling in December of that year. I have now been approved by insurance (YAY!!) and am scheduled to have gastric bypass on July 5th (Double yay!!) I have a 2 week pre-op diet, I have met with my nutritionist and think I have everything I need to begin. I have my final pre-op appointment scheduled with my surgeon on June 22nd. I have a very small list of questions that I'll be asking my surgeon during our last visit before the surgery but... What questions would you recommend? What questions did you ask? What do you wish you would have asked/ known before the surgery? Thank you in advance. [emoji173]️
  18. The questions I have so far: - Will I have a drain tube? - Will I have a private room after surgery? - Will I have a catheter? - How long will I be in the hospital (as long as there are no complications)? - Pain meds? Nausea meds? - How long should I be out of work? - Post-Op vitamins? - My goal weight... Is 140 lbs too low for me?
  19. I'm scheduled for July 5th!! Nervous, anxious, and extremely excited!
