    Surgery in a few hours

Wow, we are very close to each other! 7/5 will be a HUGE day for you and is going to be the hardest but best day! The band was just a stepping stone in your past, leave it behind and look to the future! I appreciate your encouragement and look forward to being able to encourage you as well. This morning was a scale victory for me of seeing 199.2 first the first time! I can't remember EVER being below 200!! You will get to this amazing achievement before you know it as well!!

3 months post op - discouraged

Follow your plan! My doctor said not to let what others are doing influence my goals or pace. I am 3.5 months post op and he still only has me between 450-600 calories. He wants me to focus more on my protein intake than anything else and I've already lost 65% of my excess weight! Down 100lbs since I started this adventure in September 2016. (That is when I started my 6 month monthly weight loss visits)

    What are you saying?

Thankfully I fly in 11 days before the wedding so any weightloss talk should be out of the way with the immediate family before hand. Just stressing the judge mental people that think negative of people and judge them for doing what makes them happy just because they disagree!!

    What are you saying?

I'm glad you posted this question. I am 3 months post op and getting married in 23 days and haven't seen or told 90% of the family that will be at the wedding. I know I am going to get 1,000 questions because as of this morning I am -100lbs since I saw them all a year ago! I don't want the judgement from the family, especially my fiancés grandma!! Idk what to say to them!!!!! It's honestly stressing me out and I fly out to the wedding location in 12 days!!!

    Surgery in a few hours

Hi Bonnie! Although we are using different doctors it is so nice to see another AZ patient! Do you have a surgery date? Bypass or sleeve? I am just a little over 3 months post op. I'm in the Glendale area, would love to connect with someone from around the same area!!

    Medical Alert Bracelets

Thank you for this information as I do have everything in my medical Id area on my iPhone and also have an Apple Watch. I was unaware of this option! Maybe I can avoid spending the extra money [emoji846]
  8. So I came across a blog about the importance of gastric bypass patients wearing medical alert bracelets. It stated that the risk from things like NSAID's and the insertion of blind feeding tubes can really hurt you. If brought into emergency unconscious doctors would not be aware of your bypass procedure.. What are others feelings on this? Does anyone actually wear one??

    Dehydration...

Well yesterday was an adventure for me. I was at the local water park celebrating a birthday for a friends daughter. We ate before we went and I made sure to drink lots and lots of water all morning and even took my 40oz keep cold bottle with me! I thought I was prepared for a day in the sun and AZ heat....man was I wrong!! Was waiting to go on my second slide, 75% of the way up the stairwell and started to get dizzy. Next thing I know I'm sitting on the stairwell surrounded by lifeguards, EMTs and have a soaking wet shirt on my shoulders. They took me back to the EMT office to check my vitals and my sugar and blood pressure were normal but my heart rate was jumping back and forth between 80 and 120 constantly. They determined that I was severely dehydrated. I drank 4 12oz glasses of water in 30 minutes and called my fiancé to come pick me up! We got me some food and more water but I didn't feel normal until waking up this morning and having some breakfast!! I wanted to share my story as a lesson learned and point of advice for others...no matter how much you try to prepare our bodies can dehydrate so much faster now!!!

    Dehydration...

Doctor suggested more electrolytes and told me to drink Powerade Zero but bc of the fake sugars it gives me a headache! I wish I liked coconut water [emoji17]

    Dehydration...

It was scary, but thankfully it wasn't worse! I just hope others are able to learn from my mistake!!

    Alcohol?

I have never been a big drinker nor will I ever be! I'm not concerned about alcoholism bc I do not have an addictive personality. I was never a food addict, my WLS was due to other medical issues. A drink every now and again will be fine just as before.

    Alcohol?

Actually in my case your completely wrong. As previously posted my doctor gave me the go ahead and I tried it last night and was able to drink a small glass over an hours time with no adverse affects...

    Protein

I was using isopure and am not. A huge fan of it...at my 3 month post op the doctor could tell I haven't been getting my protein like I should! Yesterday &I today I used the Sprouts (health food supermarket here in AZ) store brand of Whey protein and made fruit & yogurt smoothies and am doing ok with it. I would just do research and make sure your looking at the grams of protein vs the calories!!

    Alcohol?

Since everyone's body is different my surgeon suggested giving some red wine a try first at home. I had a 4 oz glass over a period of an hour last night with no reaction and I didn't feel drunk. He says wine is the better option!

    Holy Dumping Syndrome, Batman!

I have been EXTREMELY lucky! I've dealt with "foamies" a few times and dumping one time which was brought on by chicken cooked in butter! My goal is to try a few sips of my favorite organic super fruit wine and then another night try a few sips of some crown royal (my go to before surgery) and then make a judgement call on how it makes me feel before the wedding. Wouldn't want to experience dumping on my big day!!

    Holy Dumping Syndrome, Batman!

Thanks, I actually talked to my doctor today at my 3 month post op appointment and was happy to be told I could give it a shot without a problem. He is supportive of wine as long as it is drank with caution. I am going to try a few different types out at home and see what happens and then make my decision!

    Alcohol?

Woohoo!! Doctor gave me the go ahead. Definitely suggested trying it out at home first and then make the judgement call on what I can tolerate for the wedding day!! I will have to start experimenting to see what matches with my new tastebuds!! (He stated that it helps that my progress is phenomenal! 62% of my excess weight lost in just 3 months!)

    Alcohol?

I figured it might be something I try in advance at home where if I get sick I will be ok. I'm just so unsure. Waiting to speak to my surgeon now at my 3 month post op so I will have to see what he says!

    Breaking down

I chewed gum for the first time this weekend, 3 months post op, and I'm assuming it was the mint but it made me burp a lot! Although it was a great option while out to dinner with some family at a place where I can not eat! (They didn't even offer a side salad option, we were unaware when we agreed to go!)

    Alcohol?

I have been wondering about alcohol as well! I am getting married in 4.5 weeks and want to have some wine with the toasts or even a few sips of my favorite apple crown with the wedding party on the way to the reception! At that point I will be a little over 4 months post op. I have my 3 month post op appointment today but I know if I mention it to my surgeon he will tell me no as he is against drinking after bypass! I just want to celebrate a little nothing crazy!!
  22. I have the bariatric pal oatmeal (maple and brown sugar flavor) and although it is very thick it has good taste and it's just the right amount. Plus I love that it has protein in it!! I ordered mine from Amazon though!!

    Breaking down

I only had to do a 7 day liquid diet whereas my friend had to do a 14 day liquid diet. I also had a friend that only had to do 2 days on liquids only. All doctors have different requirements based on the individual patient. If your concerned for your daughter have her contact her doctor and ask if she needs to make any diet adjustments prior to surgery.

3 months post op - discouraged

Really you don't say...I wouldn't have asked for advice on how to up it if I wasn't concerned!!!
  25. I gave up caffeine 3 weeks pre op to help with not having it post op. It was hard at first but now I don't miss it. I tried to make a coffee protein smoothie and hated it!! My doctor said after 3 months I could have black coffee again but I'm just going to stay away for good!!
