Which also wouldn't make a ton of sense, if you ask me? The sleevers have a high-pressure pouch, meaning it's closed on one end by the pyloric valve (the DS'ers, too). Mechanically, you'd think that would mean carbonation could do more stretching, I guess?

However, their lower-set pouch means it has less potential, theoretically, to stretch because that area of the stomach is less stretching-prone (it obviously still happens to some).

We bypassers have a low-pressure pouch (it's open on two ends), meaning fluids should pretty much go right through. Fast-emptying pouches are positively correlated with WL in some studies, which is somewhat counter-intuitive, but makes sense when you think about the metabolic effects of getting food to the small intestine relatively fast after starting a meal.

Where we differ is obviously where that pouch is - the RNY'ers have it high, the MGB'ers have it low.

I really wish there were some good scientific studies on post-op plans. I haven't found much, and it's not like I haven't tried. I really don't believe in just telling people no to everything. If our minds worked like that, we wouldn't be here in the first place.

Where it gets really interesting is when you listen to the difference between some doctors and nutritionists that disagree saying the stretching of the pouch is all bogus hype to get you to lose more weight, and not backed by science.

I've been freezing cold since my sleeve 14 days ago. I read in one of the comments that a NUT said 80% of sleeves experience coldness. I'm guessing it's a common side effect, but I do not believe it's related to Iron.< /p>

We were sleeved around the same time. I was the 29th of January.

I wish I drank/liked coffee. I never liked it. The coffee with caramel sounds good even though I wouldn't try it.

I was told that we can NEVER have soda again in our lifetime! My surgeons staff drilled it into my head a million times because I was addicted to diet coke. I had to wean myself off a few months before surgery. Drinking less, and less, until I was only drinking Water. Approx. 2 weeks before surgery, I was down to the tiny cans, and couldn't even finish them. I didn't enjoy it the way I had in the past. I mean, I was drinking like a 2 liters a day. I think that this is where the dislike for fake sweeteners started?

I will have to see if I can find drinks with the Monk Fruit that you are talking about. I have never heard of this. Is this something new? Do you know of any good drinks to try with it?

It is my understanding that is for the bypassers only, not the sleevers.

Now that I am almost 6 months post op, I decided to drink something other than just plain Water. I tried Crystal Light, and it was disgusting! I tried 3 diff flavors, and just do not like the after taste. Then I decided to try diet ice tea by Snapple, and thought that was also nasty, and left an after taste. Hubby bought me some sugar free cocoa, and again it is gross, and leaves a weird after taste. Is this happening to anyone else? What is everyone drinking at this point? I am so sick of plain Water.

Gatorade Zero and Protein 2.0 water.

  5. So, for the last few days I have been FREEZING. I have never been cold ever. I wear shorts all winter, never wear a jacket unless it gets below 20 degrees out. Now I find myself sitting on the couch, and instead of tshirt and shorts like usual, i'm wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt, and i'm still cold! Is this normal? Does it ever go away? Does it get worse the more weight I lose? Just curious.

  6. OK, I feel really dumb. Bottle says right on it, "TAKE WITH FOOD"... and me, the big dummy, didn't take it with food, just swigged some gatorade to wash it down. It is the worst I have felt so far though. Everything else hasn't been bad. Tonight for dinner I had "Chicken Parm". The reason I put it in quotes was it was actually 1 ounce of ground chicken with some marinara, and some provolone. It was DELICIOUS! :)

    Eggface's Ricotta Bake Recipe | SparkRecipes (sparkpeople.com)

Creamy  chicken Casserole with Butternut Squash & Apples - Bariatric Bits

These 2 recipes got me through the soft/pureed foods phase, along with eggs

Sorry, i can't eat anything that looks like someone ate it before me and threw it up in a bowl. I am the fussiest fat guy ever. I don't eat casseroles, nothing with gravy on it, nothing that swims, only veggies i eat are corn, peas, green Beans, beets, and carrots. Think diet of a 13 year old male.

I seldomly try anything new, and my main motto is "if it doesn't look good, isn't cooked well done, and doesn't taste good, I'm not eatin it"...

Sounds like you are doing well. I just told my husband and daughter I can't wait to eat a scrambled egg on Monday morning when I can finally switch to pureed foods.

Luckily i don't have a pureed food stage. I only have 4 stages: Preop, Clear liquid after surgery while in hosp, Soft foods, and then everything. :) I am so looking forward to a scrambled Egg tomorrow. I hope i don't regret it!

  9. So it's day 13 since my surgery. I have lost 21lbs while on the full liquids. I have now lost 60lbs from my high.

Just curious, will my weight loss slow down on soft foods?

I started walking each day around the block from my house. .75 miles. Did that for about 4 days, then reversed and did two laps.

With the exception of the belly button blowing continually and having to be drained due to the umbilical hernia, the surgery so far has went without any pain except for the gas pain the day of the surgery. I feel good. Tired, but good. Not that I felt bad at my high of 417.

Wierd thing is, I haven't eaten anything since 1/28 and I'm not the least bit hungry. Don't get me wrong, I want to eat, but not because i'm hungry, but because I'm sick of these Protein Shakes. :) So looking forward to scrambled EGG in the morning tomorrow.

OHHHH, and i'm looking forward to tomorrow being the last of my two blood thinner shots!!!! They suck.

If in Virgina, and thinking of this surgery, please consider my doc, Dr. Nicholas Dugan, at Novant Health UVA in Haymarket VA. He's a great doc, great HONEST bedside manner. He is very young, but I was one of his first patients using the davinci and could not be more pleased.

Somewhat related: I once visited a friend in a larger US city. Ordered a pizza on one of those sites that deliver. I was like 'hm, no, I'm not a small pizza kinda guy, let's get a large one'.

20 minutes later. Through the door - barely - came the biggest piece of food I've ever seen in my life. Even as a volume eater (to say the least), I was like 'yeah, no'. :D

If you ever go to Schenectady NY, be sure to get a "24 Cut"... It is a huge rectangle shaped pizza, and without a doubt the best pizza ever.

You say not liking pizza is heresay. I say not liking broccoli, cauliflower, etc. is Lol! I can’t do without a regular fix of these vegetables. 😁

I was a love it or leave it pizza person but I did enjoy a pizza blanco with potatoes, rosemary, garlic & Gorgonzola from my local Italian. Yum. But I’ve not eaten pizza since my surgery. The base would fill me up way to quickly & I wouldn’t get anything else in. Plus it would fall in my ‘not worth the calories’ category.

But I understand your love of pizza & would say try the cauliflower rice base or a low carb, high Protein tortilla or wrap as a base. And check with your medical team as to when they suggest you could try a slice & what toppings you could try.

I have this thing about only eating foods that taste good, and don't make me vomit from the smell or taste. :)

"potatoes, rosemary, garlic & Gorgonzola" on a pizza? My boss at the pizza place said back in the 80's when kids would come in and try to order pineapple and ham, "Get the eff outta hea"... Then he would turn to me and say "what's next, freakin jellybeans on a pizza!"

I'm a purist, Pepperoni, Black olives, and occasionally sausage.

That sounds ... absolutely atrocious. I'm glad you have such a great attitude about it!

I'm dealing with a "deep stitch" issue. I woke up and it looked like I had a swollen ridge across my abdomen (still does). After three nurses and the surgeon, they decided it wasn't actually swollen, it was just a very deep internal stitch that was pulling things inward and making everything around it appear swollen. The bruising is also pretty impressive!

Eh, I am taking it as it comes. It's too late to turn back now!!! ;) But sadly, the swelling is back, and my poor belly button is the size of a golf ball again. I have an appt tomorrow, and he will probably have to drain it again. UGH!

Deep stitch issue sounds much worse. Hope once the stitch disolves, it will go away?

I'm gonna sound like a nut, but I'm used to that, so here goes.. I don't like pizza! But, since everyone else in the whole world, including my husband and son, loves it, it's hard to avoid at times, and I'm not a very picky eater so I will eat it if there's nothing else available or I'm too lazy to cool.
I'm 6 months post op Loop DS, and I have found so far I can eat just about anything, but certain things that are too fatty will give me diarrhea. I think had pizza at around 4 months post op. Most of the time, I just get a salad instead.
I have to say, I LOVED the ricotta bake, and didn't find it to be like pizza, but more like lasagna, but if you're a pizza lover it definitely could pass. It's delicious! My husband who is not a wls patient loved it and ate it right along with me!

Don't knock the cauliflower crust until you try it. I am also very picky and was hesitant in trying it. I tried getting the frozen cheese cauliflower crust pizza from Walmart and shredded up some turkey deli meat and added a little more cheese. I was only able to eat about half a piece 4 weeks post op but it was good!

You must have missed the part where i said "I'm the fussiest fat guy you will ever meet". I don't eat a lot of things, especially Cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, brussle sprouts, or anything that swims. 😃

You NEED ricotta bake in your life! It’s the best thing you can eat in the soft food stage. I’m 6 months out and can eat normal foods, but ricotta bake is still one of my go-to meals. I eat it with turkey meat sauce and it’s basically lasagna sans noodles.

I split the recipe into 8 4-ounce glass bowls (I bake it in individual bowls instead of 1 big dish). It freezes well, so it’s super easy to grab a serving of ricotta bake and a serving of turkey meat sauce out of the freezer and stick them in the microwave.

Sounds like a plan! Couldn't you use super lean ground beef as well?

  16. Curious... How long before you could eat your first piece of pizza?

It seems as if each doctor has a different diet plan for before/after surgery.

For instance, my surgery was 1/29/2021. I am on 2 weeks liquids to include Protein Shakes, Protein Water, Water, Yogurt, Fat free/sugar free pudding and low fat ricotta.

then i go to 1 to 6 months of soft foods, to include ground meat, deli slices, non-fat cheeses, etc

    then on to solids again.

My main thing is pizza. I just want to know realistically when I will be able to eat it again. I don't want any lectures on how i shouldn't. I'm only wanting one slice vs the 4 or 5 I used to eat. So spare me the anger.

  17. So, a week since my surgery. One, you gain about 10lbs in Water weight from all the iv fluids they pump in ya, but you pee them out quickly.

Two, The pain from the hernia surgery far outweighs the pain from the sleeve surgery.

Three, Getting fluids in is rough, because it seems there isn't enough time in the day.

Four, ZERO Hunger, but every time a commercial for pizza or burgers comes on tv I want one.

Five, So far so good. Can't wait to get to soft foods in a week, because the Protein Shakes, Protein water, and yogurt is getting old.

Six, Down 10lbs since the day of the surgery Not including the 10lbs of fluids, 50lb mark overall. Not so bad yet.
