    Lapband Removal Recovery

I had my revision from Lapband to Gastric Bypass in the same surgery. It was easy... maybe not for the surgeon but easier for me than 2 separate surgeries, anesthesia, recovery, etc.
  2. How do you make the pudding? How much pudding to each shake? Thank you!

WHy am I so scared of a bypass?

Oops, pressed send by accident! Don't be afraid. I feel so much better and The surgery wasn't bad. I was off pain meds the day I got home. Getting rid of that Lapband that did so many complications was the best thing ever to do and I no longer live in pain or suffer with GERD. Best of luck to you!

WHy am I so scared of a bypass?

I had my Lapband revision to gastric bypass, with a hiatal hernia repair, all in one surgery on July 5 this year. I am 2 months out and feel SO much better. Life was miserable with the Lapband. I also had GERD and have not had one day of it with my surgery. I originally wanted to convert to the sleeve but my surgeon said it would make the GERD worse. Don't be afraid.
  5. My cardiologist took me off of my BP medications yesterday. My BP was 90+ over 60+. Also have your cholesterol levels checked if you are in a statin. Mine dropped to 86 total cholesterol.
  6. I was told the same thing. No gummy vitamins.
  7. My Lapband with revision to Gastric Bypass and hiatal hernia repair were done in one surgery.

    Saying hello

My surgery was in July 5th. I was also worried about the protein. My surgeon said not to worry if I can't get it all in at this time. Just eat what I can. Stopping eating when satisfied is more important right now. He said if three months down the road I can't get it in he might worry, but not now and to definitely keep up the protein shakes and all of my vitamins. I was so relieved when he said that!

    Scales

I also have a Weight Watchers scale and it weighs the same as my doctors' offices. Actually, I have two. One is many years old and one is newer. They both work like a charm!
  10. OH! "That" Table! I guess I'm a bit dense today! 😂
  11. When you say more time on the table, do you mean time to eat? I have 20 minutes to eat. Do not drink 30 minutes before or after. That's the hard part! As far as vitamins, my Bariatric dietitians said it has to have 19+ nutrients on the label and 18 mcg iron 2x day. They recommend chewable. There are many that you can buy online but don't all have those specifications and are expensive. I have Flintstones Complete. For my calcium, I have to take chewable (not gummy) calcium "citrate" 500 3x/day. The citrate absorbs better. I purchased Bariatric Advantage Strawberry (many other flavors) at the hospital but you can purchase online. Bariatric Pal and Amazon might also have them. I look forward to taking them believe it or not! Kinda like Starburst! I'm not sure about dumping. All I know is that I never ever want it! I had enough pain from my Lapband. You may be able to have a few bites of something sweet down the road but not sure. Ask your doc. I am hoping to use natural sweetners to make something sweet but not sure when/if I can. I'm only 3 weeks out now and believe me..... I don't even crave sweets one little bit. I'm not hungry. During the surgery, the part of the stomach where ghrelin (hunger hormone) is stored is detached. It works! I hope this helps you some!
  12. I had a Lapband gone wrong and had it revised to gastric bypass on July 5. I had the Lapband removal, hiatal hernia repair and gastric all in the same surgery. No complications and very little pain. I didn't go with the sleeve because I have GERD and the doc said that it would get worse with the sleeve. The amount of food I get is just fine. I couldn't hold much with the band either but it doesn't hurt to eat anymore! No GERD at all anymore and I feel great. I still get some fatigue from the surgery but it gets better every day! I was 170, 5'3.5, and a 29.6 BMI. I am very happy I made the decision to do this. If your doc recommended bypass, I'd believe him. He knows what's best for you. At first, I asked for the sleeve. He told me why it was best for my situation to have bypass. Best of luck to you whatever you decide!
  13. Try Bariatric Advantage Calcium 500. I love the strawberry flavor but they have many more that you might like better.

    No Special Pre-Op Diet?

I just had a Lapband revision to Gastric Bypass on July 5th. I was not required to do the diet beforehand. At first I thought it was strange but figure it was because I did not regain my Lapband weight loss and have been doing low carb for about 18 months. He said day before surgery, have a very light breakfast, lunch, and only clear liquids after noon. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.

    One week post surgery

    You look beautiful!
  16. My RNY is July 5th. My pre-op was yesterday. My surgeon prescribed a nausea patch that goes behind my ear the night before surgery. I will also get an antibiotic and blood thinner in the hospital. I will also be wearing the inflatable compression things in my legs while in the hospital for 2 days. I will also have to take multi vitamins with at least 18 iron innit 2x day, and calcium citrate (not carbonate) with D3, 3000 iu Vitamin D minus what's in my other vitamins, and sublingual Vit B12 once a week. He never mentioned the gall stone prevention drug.
  17. I hope you are doing well Wendy. I bet you are happy to have the evil Lapband gone! Mine has caused a lot of problems and I can't wait to have it yanked! My BMI is 30 my revision to RNY is scheduled for July 5th. I could not be sleeves because of GERD. Nervous! [emoji32]

    band to sleeve insurance?

I am having my band revised to RNY and do not have to do the diet again because I have several serious complications with the band. Also, my surgeons office said that it would be covered by Medicare and BCBS.
  19. I am also being revised from the BIG mistake of having the Lapband from Hell to RNY on July 5. My surgeon also recommended RNY over VSG because I also developed GERD after the band. He said VSG would make it worse. I have also had people, including a couple of docs scare the bejeesus out of me! I only have 30-40 lbs. to lose because I kept my weight off - only because I was sick all of the time. Friends are also giving me a hard time about having another surgery... my doc said 95% of patients that have the band removed gain their weight back. I have health problems that the weight would affect, heart, joints, gastro and endocrine, and I am prediabetic. My post is long too. I am also more comfortable with the sleeve but don't want my GERD to get worse so I just have to have trust in my very excellent surgeon! Still scared though!

Graphic warning! Is it supposed to look like this?

Great! I'm glad it nothing more serious!

Graphic warning! Is it supposed to look like this?

This should be covered as a post op procedure. I had a complication after surgery once and it was covered as post op. Call your doctor and don't worry. He will fix it.

    Anyone regretting this?

My 6 1/2 yo Lapband is coming out and revised to RNY July 5th. It caused many serious problems. I wanted the sleeve too but because of GERD, he said the RNY would be better for me. I am also getting negative comments regarding the surgery. I am at the "very nervous" stage! I hope I am as happy as you post surgery! I'm happy to read positive outcomes!
  23. Jengo825

Why did you pick this surgery?

Great news on your revision! I will be so happy to have this Lapband out! July 5th can't come soon enough! I'm just nervous about recovery but I'm sure I won't regret the revision!
