baribetty reacted to FluffyChix in spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend/family heavy??
Mine was, girl! And is probably still in the obese category if not overweight. BUT. We both started this weight loss journey (for the billionth time), about 18 months+ ago. His blood sugars were crazy at 250+ and he weighed about 60-65lbs more than he does now. We live a low carb life. For him that's all it's really taken (and beginning walking and core exercises) to lose that weight over time without angst. (It took me not only doing that but cutting cals/carbs/fat razor thin and having RNY) to accomplish the same things! He's been able to stop 2 diabetes medications as of yesterday and we're hopeful that within the next 2 weeks he will be able to stop his blood pressure medication.
He's doing so much better!! And I'm so proud of him. We've actually grown together in our efforts to support each other and to implement our healthy lifestyle=new reality, rather than apart. He still wants to lose another 30lbs and I'm fully committed to helping him realize that goal. We want to live a healthy, whole life, free of disease for as many years as possible/shortening the window of morbidity to a very narrow area--later in life.

baribetty got a reaction from Fluffy Grandma in appetite back after 7 weeks
You mean you are making poor choices, as far as food goes? But not eating as much as you used to? If that is the case... sure it could be normal - but it comes back to the fact that these surgeries are tools, not fixes. I have struggled with making better food choices, especially because recovering from surgery passes, and then life goes on as usual, and you CAN eat whatever you want, if you choose to. The worse you eat, the more bad food you will want. Don't get too down about it, but I think its important to be conscious about what you're choosing to eat and remember that you deserve to give your body the good things.

Hey don't feel bad about it. Losing 56lbs is still a great achievement!
Just think, how else would you have been able to lose that amount of weight in such a short time, don't beat yourself up

It has been a very big struggle for me. Being on insulin and then having hormonal issues related to peri /menopause and having to go on hormones, I have hardly lost any weight at all. I have been through so many stages of frustration and feeling of failure but had to come to terms with the fact that my body is not the same as everyone else's……...I have only lost 56 lbs

Hi All.
Hows it going? How are you guys feeling 10 months post op? Are you where you want to be? How have your goals stayed the same or changed?
I was sleeved on May 2 2018, and things have gone very smoothly for me, overall. I have lost 100 pounds, but Im afraid things have really slowed down for me. I haven't lost weight in the last month or so. I have been careful not to track my weight every day, or even every week so I don't become obsessed, but I have been staying around 189 consistently. The winter weather has kept me from being very active, and Im feeling a little bit down about it. Id like to keep losing, and obviously I know I need to get moving more.
Just wondering how things are going for my fellow May friends

baribetty got a reaction from fightinengineer in Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?
I haven’t told many people. I’ve lost 100 pounds and people don’t even mention it. It’s actually bizarre. I think it’s totally possible to tell no one, and people won’t notice the everyday variables like how much you’re eating in front of them.

Don’t beat yourself up... you’re human. That’s probably not the last time you’re going to eat Taco Bell, and that doesn’t mean you are going to fail at this. Nothing is set in stone, you’re still a baby at this. How did you feel afterwards? -

Yes, I'm a horrible patient.
Yes, I forget and break rules left and right.
But with this, I'm able to get right back on track like I'm supposed to and enjoy success in my new life

I REPLACED anorexia with obesity and have likely put obesity in remission with this sleeve but it will always, ALWAYS be a daily struggle to maintain health.
Meanwhile, none of that gives me permission to make fun of anyone on either side of the fence, especially since l know the heartache of both places.
I say this with all kindness, making jokes about the vulnerabilities of others isn’t a privilege you’ve somehow earned. It’s a weakness, a lack of empathy. -

My boobs are totally deflating. Why are you buying so many bras at once? I would suggest buying as you need them, because both your cup and size may change, and at different rates. I’ve been wearing a lot of sports bras, but I’m lucky to work from home so I can wear casual stuff most of the time.

baribetty got a reaction from nenes78 in How much weight will we expect to lose? Gastric Sleeve
I think the success of the sleeve has everything to do with you and your individual decisions and actions. I had the surgery on May 2nd and 7 months later I can already see how easy it could be to go back to unhealthy choices. Life goes back to normal on the other side of surgery and the surgery itself can only do so much for you. Changing your lifestyle really is everything. I know we hear that, and also that the surgery is just a tool a lot pre-op... but it really is true!
