  1. Are you ready to start your pre-op diet tomorrow???!!! I am excited to get it started. It's getting real!

I am excited to get started!!! But ask me in a couple days and I probably won't be so happy about it lol!!!!!

    Good luck!

  2. I'll tell you what I did. What I took to the hospital...bipap machine, pony tail, chapstick, phone and charger. What I wish I'd also brought... gas x strips. Puree foods I liked Greek yogurt, Wendy's chili and taco bell pintos and cheese. Make sure you have broth to thin out food going in the blender. I preferred the little 6 oz Water bottles because they're easier to handle and won't get warm as quickly since you can only sip such a small amount at a time. I use regular spoons but know to just put a small amount on it. I was glad I only had to do pureed for one week.

Wow that sounds much better than their suggested 5 shakes a day!!! But again, they told me it was optional and that we were allowed to do a more flexible diet. I think I just clung to the idea of feeling miserable and panicked!!!

    Thanks!!

  3. I had my orientation today and they were talking about a no carb pre op diet and that people go through these terrible flu like withdrawals. Y'all I am not prepared for this!!!! I was ready to feel tired and crummy. But why does it have to be cold turkey on carbs? Now. This is the diet they recommend which is all shakes which they sell to you, but it is not mandatory. I want to shrink my liver but I don't want to have the "flu" on top of it all. Anyone have a pre op plan that still has a least a little carbs in it?? What does your plans look like?

July 10th 2017 is my surgery date too!! I have only told a few people because I am embarrassed to be fat.

    Sleeve Date twins!!!!

I have told my closest friends and my family! Other than them I have told people that I am having surgery but not what it is. I had a bad relationship years back, afterwards I promised to learn to love myself how I am. I think that gives me a lot of confidence. Also my hubby is super supportive, aaaaand I have my therapist hahaha! I still struggle with "what are other people going to think of me" when they find out I am having/had weight loss surgery, but at the end of the day I try to remind myself this is my body and my life, and I want to be healthy more than I care about almost anything else.

Recently I was reminded of that, I don't know if any of you know who Ashley Nell Tipton is, but she is a plus size designer who won project runway. It recently came out that she underwent WLS and I keep seeing articles where she says that mantra over and over "It’s My Body, It’s My Health, It’s My Choice"

She wrote a great post on FB, but of course I can't find it. But here is an article

Hope this message give you, and everyone else on our feed some positive vibes! We are here to support each other!

  5. So is everyone vigorously researching stuff for their pre-op diets? Or just researching in general? I feel like I have so many questions and thoughts and things I want to know. I keep starting list after list of things to look into, pre-op diet, things I need for pre op time (blenders, etc), things for post op (baby spoons, scales , etc.) , what to pack in my hospital bag, what can I eat as a mushy food list, etc. etc.

So Since it's the first thing to come up, lets talk about Pre-Op diets and things we need!

    questions?

    comments?

    Great ideas you've already found?

Scared, excited for the new start, nervous due to my parents not supporting my decision to have the surgery. So a whole bunch of emotions.

Really? that's a bummer about your parents! Do you have some friends who are? You will need a little support group for sure! You will have us now!!

I think we can all agree scared and excited are the basic emotions we are all feeling, sometimes overwhelmingly!!!

Make a schedule and stick to it. Keep yourself busy. If you are a coffee drinker and its not allowed, do wean yourself ahead of time. Crystal Light or Mio in your Water. Different flavors of Protein Powder (Quest sells individual packets so you can try a bunch of flavors.) Use Better that Boullion for your broth - it's yummy.

Every time you want to grab for food, have a plan for something to do to take your mind off it. Read a book. Walk around the block. Climb up and down the stairs at home. Binge an episode of something on Netflix. Have a plan and stick to it. It's 7 days. Before you get a chance to start your new life. And a new life it is.

Use the time to make lists of all the things you want to do as you get thinner. How do you want to mark milestones? First 20 pounds? 50? 100? Goal Weight? Make a list of things you haven't done that you can do at goal weight - zipline? acrobatic yoga (you know with the silks hanging off the ceiling)? Skydiving?

Sort your clothes -- find those skinny clothes in the back of the closet. Pick out what pair of pants are going to be your "before" pants you save. Have someone take photos of you now, so you can have some before and after photos.

    Join a gym.

I could keep going. But you get the idea.

You got this. You rock. YOU ARE FIERCE. YOU ARE FEARLESS.

    Believe it.

    Hugs.

This is the most encouraging post I have ever read! I have a lot of the same worries about the preop and even post op diets and this is just.... everything! I will be taking a lot of your advice! I am just getting into the forums and I am glad that I did! Thanks for this!

  8. I have had this same problem, and sometimes I still do. I actually ended up moving my surgery date up because I didn't want to keep obsessing for 6 more months. However, I have learned a little about how to control it. I have seen a therapist regularly since I started thinking about the surgery and she suggested a couple things. One is a worry journal. and mine is not so much a journal as much as a book of lists. I take ten minutes or so in the morning and write a list of all the things I am worrying/obsessing about. then I write next to them the current step I am in. For instance Protein powders - I could spend hours researching this daily - but I have ordered a few samples and until those come in and I try them, there is really nothing else I can do. So I would write - ordered samples or whatever next to that item.

Then if during the something comes up I am able to remember that I am doing everything I can at the moment for that particular item and push it out of my mind and get back to my task. I hope that makes sense. It has really been helping me.

    Best of luck!

Sounds like we have similar concerns! So far I have only told my husband. If I had it my way I would not tell anyone else! Truthfully, I am embarrassed and I do not want to deal with judgment or unsolicited advice. I do not think that any of my close friends or family members will support my decision. I will likely tell my mom because I will need her help with my children after surgery. I know that she is going to be super critical and probably will try to talk me out of it. Who have you decided to tell?

I have been trying to work on the mental aspect of things for several weeks. I am very scared to permanently alter my body only to find I lack the will power to make a long term change. I found a podcast called the Weight Loss Surgery Podcast that I have found very helpful. I highly recommend it. I've listened to every episode. I've also been reading a Geneen Roth book that has some good ideas about changing mindset with regard to food. Thanks for responding! It's nice to have someone to bounce concerns off of!

I have told my two best friends, and my parents and sister. I actually have been working with a therapists who has helped me 1) finally make the decision to go through with surgery, but 2) she has also helped me to see that this is not something I should be ashamed of. I have tried other ways to lose weight and obviously nothing has worked because I always end up right where I started out. This surgery is the tool that I need to help me lose weight. So far every one has been very supportive, I would hope that your friends and family would be as well! However, you don't have to tell anyone at all. Really its no ones business, so if you choose to keep it to yourself that's cool too. I think that the more support you have around you the better your surgery and recovery will go!

As far as food goes, I don't know that I have an emotional attachment to it, I just like food hahha. But that is something that I am going to have to work through. I am going to continue to see my therapist after the surgery too, so that I have an outlet for my frustrations and also someone who can help me deal with the emotions that almost certainly will come up!

  10. @Redo2017 We are surgery date buddies! My Surgery is also scheduled for July 10th. This is my very first post in any of these threads, but I have been reading a lot in recent months! I have always been plus size and my weight never really bothered me (that much) and I have always been comfortable in my skin. But I have had some recent health problems, I was diagnosed with diabetes almost 10 years ago and after every diet in the book and every drug I think I could try, I still can't get my weight consistently under control. So I am taking charge!

I am nervous too, and like you not about the surgery its self, that will probably be the easiest part. But I am worried about how I am going to deal with the life changes. I haven't been able to do it before on my own. This is a big change!!!

anyways I just wanted to post since we have the same surgery date, and I could definitely use some friends that are going through the same thing as me. I have not told many people about my surgery, how are you dealing with that aspect of this?
