susansp reacted to myhealthyjourney in Not loosing!
I'm having the same problem. Lost 36 pre-op. Then lost 11 lbs in first 2 weeks. Now I'm 5 weeks out and have only lost 5lbs in the last 3 weeks. I am exercising and eating as the doctor says. I feel like this too is failing, as every other thing I've tried. I also have to take replacement thyroid hormones because they killed my thyroid 8 years ago. So I'm wondering if anyone else has thyroid trouble and is further out. Could you tell me if this surgery worked for you, even though your thyroid doesn't work? Did you have slow weight loss, at the beginning?

We are surgery buddies! My RNY was on 6/26 also. I'm down 20 pounds today. I lost 23 pre op so 43 total.
It also took me several days to loose the Water weight from surgery. My surgery weight was 227 and after surgery I was 235.
Its not a sprint, it's a marathon. I have to keep telling myself this. I thought weight would come off like 10 pounds a week! It's slower, but I still feel so much better than pre op!

Regret.......... you probably came here to hear about how I regret my sleeve surgery. But it's the opposite I'm madly in love with my sleeve (my banana belly) I always read on here why people hate it, but I never read about how people are embraced by the surgery. It has made me a completely different person than who I was 6 months ago. I'm confident, successful, and beautiful. Don't get my wrong I went threw ups and downs pre op, and post op. But at the end of the day I'm almost 100 pounds down, I look back at myself last year around this time and hate the person I see. If you went threw this surgery, and are having any regret.. don't... it's a beautiful thing that a smart surgeon did for you, he/she believed in your health and weight loss. There is going to be ups and downs, stalls, and tears( in my case panic attacks). But when you wake up one morning and you weigh yourself and your almost 100 pounds down from your start weight you will not regret. You will embrace.
Have a lovely day.

Yesterday was my 2 week anniversary. From the day I left hospital until now 14lbs, all of that was in the first 8or 9 days. Starting purees today and have my post-op appt with doctor. I'm going to contact my dietician for some guidance on how often I should be eating. Had some soft boiled egg with mustard this morning and it was amazing! I could only eat about 1/2.

I purchased all of the stuff and used like nothing. I never even opened my baby plates, but for some people I could see it being helpful. I also loaded up on Protein Shakes pre surgery and then post op decided I didn't like half of them anymore, so don't get too many because tastes can change.
I recommend the following:
- Abdominal binder. My tummy started deflating as I was healing still and the binder helped a lot with keeping things taut so the hanging skin didn't hurt my incisions.
- Chapstick
- food scale. Everyone who recommends it is spot on!
- Miralax. You are somewhat limited on what you can take post surgery, but Miralax is a safe bet to get things ~moving~
- Sugarfree Popsicles. When you go from normal person to being on a very restricted diet, these feel like a nice treat and give you a little something to crunch
- Fill your prescriptions ahead of time. You don't want to be in line at CVS while feeling like crap and you absolutely want to stay ahead of the pain

That is one concern I have with that show. The last time I watched it (years ago), they never showed any updates or progress pics. They never explained that they are expected to take a full year to come down to their goal weight or 100 pounds depending on their starting weight etc. I think leaving those crucial pieces of information out does a disservice to both the general public AND to those considering surgery. Everyone seems to think it's a miracle surgery instead of a tool to aid you in your life choices.

I'm also scheduled for 5/30. I've been on pre-op diet for 6 days. Not too bad.

My surgery is on May 17th. I am worried about the unknown. Am I going to be hungry all of the time after this surgery? I know with the sleeve they take the part of the stomach that drives your hunger. Does this help with not wanting to eat? I was told by someone that the first year is "Hell", then it gets easier. Is there a lot of pain after the surgery? I don't have any doubts that I want and need this surgery, it's just so many unknowns.
