    Eating on the road/airports

Thank you! I forgot about those egg bites at Starbucks. At the Oakland airport now and just grabbed a Dannon Light and Fit yogurt and a cheese stick. Ho hum.
  2. Is anyone having trouble moving to foods with a tad more texture? I chew little bites of chicken until it's really mashed but I feel like an air bubble is trapped in my esophagus and I can't burp it out. Then I get the hiccups. Starts to hurt and eventually I have to throw up a little. I'm 5 weeks out from surgery and sick of the pure bland soft foods like cottage cheese, soups and refried beans. I hope this phase passes. I did go to my surgeon yesterday and have lost a total of 41 pounds!
  3. You don't need someone with you all day but having someone nearby helps. After a week of recovery at home I was feeling very weak, faint when I got up, and my heart was racing. Turns out I had developed an ulcer from one of the meds they gave me to prevent blood clots. I was glad I had my daughter home that day to drive me to the doctor and ER.

    July 6th surgery

You need the multi vitamin with iron 3x a day and then the calcium citrate 3x a day, but two hours after the multi. This is because the iron and calcium will not work well together. Are Flinstones full of sugar and do they have the levels of the vitamins and minerals we need?

    Already met with the surgeon.

You are beautiful and your outfit is adorable! I can imagine how great you will feel in the future! Proud of you for quitting smoking!! That's hard!!

    Another post about stalls!!

I'm in a stall at 7 weeks out myself. Same 3 pounds up and down for a week or so. I need to walk more, I'm sure. There's not much you can do about the hair loss but I hear it stops at about a year and you'll grow it back. It's an internal thing due to the shock to your body from the surgery and the malabsorption of nutrients. Just keep up with the vitamins. Good luck on getting out of the stall soon! I have the same fear that my body stopped losing weight already!

    Breads Products!

My guide says avoid grains til two months out. I have had crackers and some pretzels when I feel like I need something that won't make me sick. I had surgery 5/8, so I have just a little longer but not sure I could eat more than 1/4 piece of toast.

    Is this really true???

Not true for me. I had bypass.

Trying to find out what they meant

I would call and ask them.

    Any tips on chewing slowly?

Move your fork to your opposite hand just as an experiment for a meal. It really slows you down!

    Goal Weight Reached!

    Congratulations!! A great accomplishment!!

    Like being pregnant...

Yep! All true. Sometimes I just go to bed without eating much for dinner because I can't stand the same old thing and the smells and textures gross me out.

    Holy Dumping Syndrome, Batman!

Yes, I've had that and it's not dumping but maybe food stuck. It hurt like hell and I thought I was going to have a heart attack or faint.

    High heart rate after surgery??

I had the high heart rate and a week later found out it was caused by an ulcer. Chances of a leak are low. My doctor gave me a shot before surgery to prevent blood clots in my legs and that can cause an ulcer. Maybe you can ask about that? I hear it's not totally uncommon after bypass.

    Thoughts and worries?

I am one of the exceptions. I had gastric bypass May 8 and have lost 43 pounds or so. I am having a hard time getting in liquids and protein, too. I am getting sick of all soft foods but trying to hang in there! I throw up every time I have turkey or chicken breast, but can tolerate lunchmeats. I also felt like I was supposed to be able to process certain foods faster than I am but this board has really helped me see how we all have our own journey. I want to lose about 80 more pounds before May of next year. I'll get there!

    Hiccups and Trapped Air

Thank you James! I especially appreciate the recipes that I will try once I can add more of those foods.

    Holy Dumping Syndrome, Batman!

That is not dumping. My doctor says that is sweats, nausea, diarrhea, flu symptoms, heart racing.. I have had what you had (twice) after eating some chicken breast and it hurts so bad! I'm waiting a while to try it again.

    Can't win today

I am 5 weeks out since surgery and still not getting in 64oz of fluid nor 60grm of protein. I'm not in pain but just some days don't want that much and gag a lot if I force myself. Surgery: 5-8-2017 Weight: 312 Surgery day: 300 Current: 273
  19. Dr. Bhoyrul at Olde Del Mar Surgical and his entire team are fantastic. The nurses and other hospital staff at Scripps La Jolla said I'd pick the best in San Diego.
  20. Did your doctor give you a list? My surgery was May 8 and I'm now on soft foods until June 16. Here is what I can have. My faves are refried beans with a sprinkle of cheese and string cheese.

TSA body scan anomaly after surgery

Oh wow! I fly a lot too and am glad I know about this.

    Liquid diet breakdown

I'm surprised you don't have to do one, though. Mine was for 10 days and was very difficult but I made it through. You need to do this to shrink your liver before surgery.

    Losing 2 lbs a day -

I'm also 5'10 and started at 306! I had my surgery May 8 and am down about 28 pounds (including 13 from pre-surgery liquids). I had to go back to the hospital May 23-26 as I had developed a big ulcer at the connection site so that threw me off for a week but getting better each day. I'm trying to walk more each day to help things along, but my red blood cells are rebuilding and I get winded/worm easily.

TSA body scan anomaly after surgery

Did you have a belt on? I can't imagine skin triggering the alert.

    Blood in stool

I bled a lot and had an ulcer at the site of the new "connection", which is not rare, but mine was large. I had to go back to the hospital for three nights while it healed with meds in my IV. I just got home Friday. Scary! They were getting my consent for a transfusion should I have needed one.
