Wait... question and this is a question I've posed for myself... why would you go to extremes of getting this gift... this wonderful tool to keep eating the same things that got you to needing surgery in the first place? It scares me that I might. To make that conscious decision to eat those awful foods even in moderation... and make the same mistakes I make now. It doesn't make sense to eat those nasty foods regardless of you're loosing weight. It's the health part you should be focusing on. You're better than fast food even if it's once in a while. You're better than ice cream and candy. I wish you well and much success! Xo

    Hello everybody!!
I did it. I came out of surgery yesterday around 4pm eastern time. It's 6:03Am and I must say that the heartburn part was the worse then the pain as well made it more challenging. But if you go in it expecting it, then it won't come a surprise. I don't like when people sugar coat the recovery. Just expect the pain to be bad and hope it isn't. If I can get through it so each and every one of you can do it as well. I walked twice. I can now go to restroom alone and I'm sitting up with no issues. Just controlling my the heartburn and pain in advance is how I feel less pain. I'm praying for each and every one of you. Stay focused and don't forget your "whys" you're doing this and don't underestimate your strength.

Yaaaaaaa right! I beg to differ!!!!! I completely understand your statement! I do I have horrible endocrine issues that I can starve myself and not loose a #. I get it!! I'm also in nursing. Sooooo it's hard for me to sit hear and believe that a person didn't eat "one ounce" of unhealthy food to get where they are. That's bs. You and I didn't get to where we are by eating good wholesome food. That's where reality needs to be a big part of people's success.

That's awesome!! It's all bout the changes you make and what you eat. Fast foood smells so damn good but if I eat it I know 1 of two things will happen. lol when I was in Italy it was so different. American food is crappy lol but smells sooooooo good. I just am so in the habit of prepping my self. I want it so bad. Nothing is going to get in my way... hooooweeeverrrrr if you're talking about twinkles and cake.... that's my weakness. I haven had anything like that in over 2 months and luckily my sugar tweeks are no longer. They better not come back!!!!

In the five years prior to having the VSG I ate a total of three fast food meals. Two of those three were when I was in China and needed a place that had picture menus so I could just point to what I wanted since I speak only a few words of the language. The third meal was in London, and only because you were required to make a purchase to be able to use the restroom. This was during the time when I was in grad school and most of the eateries on campus were fast food. I had a bit of a snobbish attitude about it, but the Bagels and Pasta I was eating in its place did me no favors. In the nearly two years since having the VSG I've eaten numerous meals at fast food places, and worked my way down to a size 2/4 on a 5'8 frame. I grew up in Florida loving Chick-fil-a, and when one finally opened in my area of Los Angeles, I was pumped. It became my routine to go to the one near the gym after workouts and get a kids meal with nuggets, a fruit cup instead of fries, and a diet lemonade or milk in lieu of a soda. I also eat at El Pollo Loco fairly regularly now. One benefit of fast food places and other large chains is that they have all of their nutritional information on their websites, so you can quickly access it and make better choices. It can also be sobering to look up what you're craving and see how that one meal has more calories and carbs than you'd typically eat in a day (or in some cases, two). For me, cultivating sustainable habits has been the most critical for keeping the weight off, and a big part of that is informing myself about what I'm eating, tracking it, and planning. So I do eat ice cream and candy, but very rarely instead of regularly, and it doesn't have the impact that it would if I wasn't eating healthily the majority of the time and exercising regularly.
During the first month post-op I was bombarded with cravings for fast food, despite having not eaten any regularly in years. It was like some strange lady moved into my mind, because the obsession for Papa Johns and Jack in the Box was completely bizarre to me. I even watched YouTube videos of fast food reviews, to consume it with my eyes and not my mouth, lol. I looked through the Instagram pictures of a donut shop I loved, and other similarly unhealthy eateries. Food was on my mind constantly. When you're only able to consume liquids, and the majority of commercials are for fast food places and highly caloric Snacks, you can start to desire things you ordinarily wouldn't. As I wrote before, I never made any threads asking when I could eat x, y, or z, but I benefitted from others asking them and reading about horror stories. I knew it absolutely wasn't worth the risk, so I never ate any of the food I was obsessing over while healing. I eventually ate the Breakfast from Jack in the Box that I'd been weirdly fascinated with during the first month of post-op - about 15 months after surgery, when I'd been in maintenance for months. It wasn't nearly as good as I'd thought it would be, and I have no desire to eat it again. Reading on here about how others also had head hunger helped me a lot. I knew it was common, and that I'd get through it, and I did. It's why those threads don't bother me one bit.

Yes everyone is different but how is someone healthy by eating crap? What their body composition will look like. The chemicals consumed? I see a total trend and in healthy fit people... they don't eat that crap! But semi-ok looking people usually do eat that. Myself for example.. my body composition and health is completely different with what i put in my body. Personally I get sick if I over indulge. But again.... why would you put those food back in your system????? Why? What so important that a person knows the risks and triggers of them... that they need to have them???? I mean, yes people use their tool different and have different goals. But it makes no sense to me to re introduce those harmful things back into my body. Just my opinion.

Eating fast food is not healthy at all... to me it's comparable to smoking. It's awful for you. Success is measured per individual from what their standards are set.... so it they have low standards not knowing, they will think they are achieving great things but could be doing better. It pains me to hear people getting this surgery and right away want to put the naughty foods back into their system. It scares me to my core. I don't want those cravings ever again. I don't want to be this person I am now before surgery. I want to be the best version of me making healthy decisions that don't include crap food. I know I'll loose faster and my skin and appearance will look good! I just love myself too much to get the sleeve surgery and dare think to put crap in my system. [emoji171]

I half-and-half agree with your statement. For me at least, my issue has always been overeating actual food, and not an addiction to anything in particular. I got the sleeve to stop this issue, and I've learned so far on how to listen to my body and to stop when I am satisfied and not when I'm stuffed.

Every person is different when it comes to weight loss and uses their tool differently.

I'm going to have surgery in June with the likelihood my date is moved up. I had joined a Facebook bariatric group thinking I'd find support and possibly friends there, but unfortunately left the group due to the outrageous number of posts regarding how soon people could eat pizza, drink alcohol, eat I cream or drink soda pop, etc., etc. then the myriad of unhealthy recipes that were posted was upsetting, even as I scrolled past them. Then, I came here. It's the same difference. The people who have knowledge are vastly outnumbered by the addicts and self indulgent. What's worse is if anybody speaks the truth, which is that the vast majority of people here are seeking a quick fix, don't want to put in the work, are food addicts and compulsive over eaters, and even lazy, then they risk the wrath of people who disagree and want to mess up for their own ignorant and selfish reasons. Stupidly and indulgence win out the day.
I'm always from the school of thought if I know something or have information I ought to impart that to others. Knowledge is power and the truth is always better.
It pisses me off to have to keep my mouth shut so that stupid or misinformed people win out the day spreading their crap all over these forums and ruining it for those of us who actually can use the encouragement and not use this site as a crutch for our self indulging.
    I was thinking of leaving.
Then I realized I'm not alone after reading a post on here expressing the same outrage. Plus, I'll stick around for the few people who actually can use the help and viable info, not to mention have real issues with support outside these forums for reasons beyond what is normal, either they have limited net access and funds, or get a doctor that isn't up to par, plus I feel it's my duty to give out the correct information. And yes, there is actually correct information about this stuff. It's really easy to find and a great doctor will give it.
Some of what I read is preposterous. Reading stupid crap such as it's okay to drink soda or pop because the stomach muscle left over from the surgery won't stretch - B.S! NOT TRUE, and if that isn't the worst if it, not acknowledging what sugar and fake sweeteners do to our bodies is the icing on the cake. Nobody is that daft in 2017.
Rather than attack and change the nature of the addictions, people seek any excuse to indulge them. It's tiresome and boring. Have some guts, and stop spreading stupidity to others.
Believe it or not, some of us want to be healthy and actually live longer by correcting the habits that got us here in the first place.
If you don't like it, fine. It's not my job to encourage bad behavior, not for myself or anyone else. Leave a rude comment or not, that's your bit. At the end of the day it's about adding years to our lives and making the best out of a tool that not everybody has an opportunity out to use.

Not entirely true. Be open to the science and why this is a myth. Also, I gained weight from NOT ENOUGH CALORIES-but entirely the wrong food choices and I regularly exercise. My doc was always on to me for not eating enough. Check out the why.

I agree. If you're early out, and those foods are not in your nutrition guidelines then they should not be eating them, but on the same side I don't think there is any harm in asking "how soon" one can eat a certain food.< /p>

That's terrible to hear! I am in a mind set of not eating that type of food. I've been working hard and cutting out refined sugars little by little. Why would a person do that to their self after going through getting the sleeve? It's a wonderful tool that should not be taken for granted! Sounds like your friend needs to see a doctor and get his/her mind set right regarding food. Sounds like they are eating Oreos in stead of doing what's right for their body and getting that Water in. I hope your friend becomes more aware, successful and feels better!!!! Maybe you're seeing stuff you're not supposed to do. I only hear of complications from people who bring in the same ol'yummy but bad habits back to their selfs. I hope you are stronger than that and prevail! I'm gunna try too! [emoji182]
