I'm right with you on this! I'm 10 weeks post sleeve and I too miss a good meal. I don't miss aching knees and a huge belly but I miss sitting down to a good dinner. It's now all over in a few mouthfuls and I don't usually feel satisfied. More like a passing necessity than something to look forward to.
But the health benefits are coming and I do feel much healthier already. As others are saying from further in the journey, I hope it's a passing thing and I'll look back on my prior indulgence as something never to be repeated.

Feeling much better today. Except from a slight bit of acid when I drink, I'm feeling pretty human again. Still no hunger and just drinking Water and tea until later today.

Thank you all so much for your good wishes. I'm out on the other side. Sleeved!
Operation was pretty straightforward but I was quite a while in recovery. I asked for a premed to relax me a little before the operation and I think this made my journey out of anasthesia more difficult. Felt sick but soon went.
Not much sleep last night as the nurses were checking my vitals pretty often and the iv pump alarm was hyper sensitive. Hope to sleep better tonight.
I had a nasal drain fitted during surgery and this was removed this morning. Not fun. I have an incision drain remaining which is being removed tomorrow morning and I'm hoping to go home tomorrow afternoon.
Nothing but tea and Water so far. Not feeling hungry at all. No food for 36 hours now. Clear Soup, yoghurt from tomorrow.

Hi Sleevers. Think this is my week 8 update. Another 3lbs off! Wish it was more but 3lbs, is 3lbs. Kind of settling on 3lbs a week.
I'm no longer in the class 3 obese category. Now class 2. No idea what that really means but sounds good.
Evening meals are still a hassle. This was when I did most of my eating in front of the tv and now, I just can't eat quantity. Good job really but it does piss me off! We had steak last night with a potato salad. I managed two bites of steak and that was me done. I left it for an hour or do then ate the rest of my tiny steak cause it tasted so good.
Breakfast, lunch are ok. I do get hung up feeling guilty on eating a snack. Even if it's a little ham or chicken. I know I shouldn't but I do. I've found a slice of bread from a baguette about 1/2" thick topped with some Brie or Camembert is a great little snack. Around 100 calories but so worth it lol
Hope you've all had a good week x

Hi Cass. Awww wow! Little Stevie is gorgeous!! Big hug from me.
France was a real tonic for me. We lived there for a few years before returning to the uk a few years back. I miss it and the friends we made a lot. Hopefully retire there one day.
Great that you're doing well. I like the eating smaller and more often thing but I'm worried that I'm storing trouble for later. Will it just end up large meals more often?! 😧
I feel for your uncle. My knees ached like hell mist days before the op. Loosing just 40lbs has made such a difference. Knees no longer ache. It is hard to become the great advice giver.
Heres a photo of my baby four legged girl and my better half in France.

Hi Sleevers. A bit of a late update as we've been on a little holiday to France to see friends.

Managed to kind of stick to programme over the holiday. Lots of small snack type meals. The food there really does taste good [emoji4].
So I weighed this morning and I'm 5lbs down. Result! Total lost since op, 41lbs!!! In just over 6 weeks!!!

Food - Finding eating smaller meals but a little more frequently much better for me. I'm finding I get kind of hungry a few hours after eating so I eat something small and I'm fine for another few hours. Still drinking plenty of tea and sugar free Fruit Drinks.

Mental health - The holiday and seeing friends did me the world of good. It took my mind off the food pretty much for a whole week. I shared about my surgery with my friends in france and talking about it helped I'm sure. They were very supportive.

Exercise - no dedicated exercise as I was doing before the holiday but I walked quite a lot and felt pretty tired. Speaking a little french and concentrating more was hard work!

Back home and back to programme now. Hope you've all had a good week or two.

I'm four and a half weeks post sleeve and I must admit to having lots of the same feelings as the original poster and others on this thread over this time. I too miss food.
I've been thinking about this long and hard as there's no way back. Would I really want to go back?!
I guess it all boils down to why I did this and took this extreme measure to change my weight. For me, I was literally heading for an early grave. I had a BMI of over 45 and I smoked around 30 cigarettes a day. I know, giving up smoking and my food addiction as well as surgery - crazy dude!!
So fast forward a month and I've lost 35lbs and not had a single cigarette since surgery. That has got to be worth the loss of stuffing my face on a regular basis.
I'm learning to live with this new stomach. Food and eating have kind of lost their appeal recently. Tiny portions and the full (more like pressure from the gut up) feeling kind of spoils most of my meals. So I eat cause I have to. Soup, soft stuff, yogurt. Not my first choice before the sleeve but it kind of works now.
The trade off - I feel better, lighter, fitter already. Started exercising again which is a plus. Weight keeps dropping. No more cigarettes. Has to be worth it right?!

I was just thinking the other day about how long it's been since I was sleeved. It has been so long I rarely think about it any more. I remember in the early days almost all of the posting was from people who were either pre- or within a year or so post surgery. I decided to register here and see if anyone has any questions they'd like from an oldie Up front:
360+ was my high. I lost down to 200 "on my own" but when the weight started coming back I decided I HAD to have surgery if I was going to have a fighting chance at staying down. I am older so I do have a lot of loose skin. Due to having been so heavy, I will never be under 200 w/out skin removal which I cannot, for medical reasons, have. And I don't mind much. It would be great to not have to deal with the flapping arms and gut, but it's not the end of the world.
10 years a sleeve: The only real negative I can think of it that is is very unpredictable. One day I can eat almost a "normal" small plate of food. The next day, if I ate that much it would come back up. I am sick about once a quarter due to overeating. I really try not to have that happen but it really is hard to predict. So when I am eating in public, I go very light. At Christmas parties, I grazed. I would pick up a carrot or celery stick off a tray, dip it and nibble away. No one pays that much attention to detail, only that I was eating. I picked up one sugar cookie and at it. I nibbled at it, it took a good 20 minutes to eat. Really, I don't think anyone gives it a thought. Here at home I just stop eating and wait to see how I feel. "Full" for me is now a pressure. If I feel that pressure, I am done. If not, I take another bite or two.
When I read back here in the old days, I read some pretty crazy stuff. My favorite was a woman who swore up and down she knew someone who had to be sleeved three times because she drank diet soda. No. That is not what happened. But if you want to believe it, that's fine with me. But that will not happen. For the first few years I drank diet coke. I absolutely follow the rule of no Fluid w/ my meal (unless it's part of a soup). I wait the full 30 minutes, often a bit longer. I thought it would drive me nuts, but it does not bother me at all. I have switched to unsweet ice tea for my "passion" drink and I have come to love it more than the diet soda and absolutely know it's better for me. But had nothing to do with the sleeve.
My surgeon was an absolute tyrant. (He retired the next year.) He felt you had to "earn" being sleeved. I thought that by losing over 160 pounds on my own, I had already earned it. His point was that I was gaining back (I think I was back up to about 260 at surgery but it's been so long ago I don't remember the details) so he made me do a 3 week liquid fast prior to surgery. I was stupid to do it. He had no real way to know. I wish I had done low, low carb for 10, then shifted to the liquid for the last half. The reason I say this is because the one mistake I made was eating solid food too soon. I was about 7 weeks out from surgery and with the 3 week liquid fast, I felt like a prisoner. So I ate. I look back on that moment and wish I had handled it differently. I don't know how to explain it, but it felt like a fail. It felt like I had let food win again. And I felt like it all happened due to emotions and feeling bullied....a lot of which got me to where I was to begin with!
So anyway, your experience may be very different. But I'll check here every other day or so and see what's up. If anyone has any questions, ask. I will try to answer. Of course, it will only be my perception. I wish us all luck on this journey. And I wish this surgery had been there for me in my youth but we get what we get in life.
    Take care all -- Decade

Thank you. I saw my surgeon last week and I was cleared for pretty much any food. The exceptions initially are tough meat and hard or crusty breads.
I think my surgeons philosophy is that you are very much restricted by the quantity you eat not the type of food. If your stomach has healed well, it can take pretty much any kind of food.

Hi Sleevers. Week 4 post sleeve update. I'm down another 4lbs. Total lost since sleeve op, 32lbs. Seems to be settling to 4lbs a week weight loss which is fine by me.
food - I know I keep bitching about this but I'm still head hungry and missing my larger portions. I'm hoping this will ease as I get used to smaller portions as time goes by.
I've been trying most regular foods this week without any real problems. Pasta check, fish check, Soups with a little veg check. Tried a little rice but that was tough as it just kinda got stuck going down. I'm mainly sticking with mashed potato with everything.
Drinking lots each day and about 800 calories.
Hope you're all doing good out there.

Morning Sleevers. So today is post op day 7. What a week! You can read about the weeks journey above.

we sound very similar. Not enough to have an op, let's quit a habit too! Why not!!

I'm getting a ninja so I can purée anything. Even a table leg!! (gotta be better than cottage cheese)

My sister had a vsg over 2 years ago. 100lbs off and swears it's the best thing she's one.

I'm positive it's the right thing for me. I've been fat since childhood and it's stopped me living my life to the full all these years. No more of that sh1t. I'm taking control. I want to be "normal". Not the fat guy in the room.

Here's to us both and success on this journey

Morning Sleevers. Feels pretty cool to be in the club 😂.
Yesterday was so much better than the day before. Thank you god!
Had to stay in the hospital an extra day (as did the lady that had the same surgery the same day) as the drains were still taking some Fluid from the incisions. Been giving the all clear to go home this morning and had the drain taken out, iv removed. I'm going home!!!!
Managed some Soup and jelly yesterday and some jelly this morning. Finding tea, coffee and chilled Water fine so long as the Hot Drinks aren't too hot. Finding eating weird as I just don't feel hungry and half a pot of jelly is fine. Starts feeling uncomfortable (I wouldn't call it full) if I have more.
Its been 2 full days since surgery on Monday evening and I'm feeling so much better. Walking up and down the corridors here, bothering the nurses lol 😂
Still finding it amazing that I just don't feel hungry yet I've probably consumed 2-300 calories since surgery over 2 days ago. That would have been a mini snack on Sunday!!
Going home in a couple of hours -Yayy!

Glad you're doing okay. It is hard to look through all the other stuff in life and focus on ourselves for a few weeks. Think it's super important though. Especially at the beginning. Hope you find some time.
Got cleared for moderate exercise and pretty much all foods yesterday with the exception of hard foods (like tough steak) so I'm feeling much better about the whole thing. Had some fish pie yesterday after my surgeon visit. The kind topped with mashed potatoes and cheese. I felt my first real restriction eating that and even though it was a tiny portion (maybe 5oz), I had to leave some on my plate. A first! Thank the lord. Thought I was going to be the first bariatric patient that didn't feel full! 😂
Still smoking free! Loving that 👍
Take care and try to find some "look after yourself" time x

How are you doing Leanne? Do you have your date yet? First week post op has been pretty good for me. 13lbs lost already and every day post surgery really is better. Nothing really aches just a bit tender in the tummy. Prepare yourself for nothing more than tea, coffee, squash, clear Soup and plain no fat smooth yoghurts (skyr is nice)
Just visited our local garden centre, going to pot some hanging baskets this afternoon. Life seems to come back to pretty much normal after a week or so. All that stress and worry disappears.

I'm doing okay but super distracted by life so I am not paying attention to my food except to say I cant eat much. That is such a bonus! I cant eat mindlessly because I'm stressed like I did for the last 79 years (or that's how it felt!). I would like to be better about taking my Vitamins and doing the program 'right' but I know that this is the long haul and I'm in. I do worry about not waiting long enough between drinking and eating and blah blah blah but this is a lifetime thing. Not a race. So its a mixed bag over here. But all in all mostly good!

yay Propo! Sounds like you are doing great! Slow and steady wins the race... it's hard to see these people with 100 lb plus weight loss when things feel like they are going so slowly. But imagine if you kept losing 28 lbs a month.... In 4 months that would be 120! That's too fast!! You would have one loose birthday suit! Congrats and we are awesome!!
