ReesesGurl got a reaction from Mike MCG in Satisfied with food post op?
    Hello Mike,
I just wanted to tell you I'm almost 7 weeks out and I don't feel frustrated or dissatisfied....I just feel like something's missing. Like, I have everything I NEED....just not everything I WANT. I don't feel hunger like I used to...and I definitely don't ever feel the same type of FULL that I used to. food isn't really AMAZING to me anymore...it's more like a "brushing your teeth" kind of thing. Although I have these feelings...I definitely am happy with the weight loss.
I hope there are some people who have had the surgery 1 plus years ago who give you a good answer.
I wish you luck with your decision.

This is all true and hilarious. Slider foods are foods that will pass through your new stomach very quickly and easily, so you can and probably will eat a lot of it. popcorn, potato chips, yogurt. These are all considered sliders. Chips turn to mush and go down really easily. It's a slippery slope for sure.
I loved popcorn pre surgery. I've had it once since, several months post but will not buy it. It's too easy to eat a ton of it for me. I haven't bought popcorn at the movies in years. Too expensive. So i usually will eat before the movie and be fine as long as i have Water.

My instructions say no gum because it could cause a blockage if swallowed.

Today was my first day lifting weights.Did chest and tris at about 2/3 my old weight.Keep in mind I wasn't power lifting doing lighter weight with higher reps.It felt amazing.Ive been at the gym since dayb1 but only on a treadmill. My diet it mostly high Protein with minimal carbs (oatmeal, fruit) I be ad a couple small bites of bread, pasta but I am still consuming yogurt and protein shakes.Peanut butter has been a huge help and I started eating turkey lunch meat with a small piece of string cheese. This new journey is amazing it feels great never being stuffed.I sleep all night,I used to wake up to Pee at least 4 times a night and i also don't snore anymore. My energy is way way up.Ibaas having leg numbness issues but that is slowly improving. As of today my only issue is slight Constipation from high protein diet but Metamucil nightly with another stool softener is helping a lot.I hope you all are doing well on your journeys. My results/reaction or whatever you want to call it are working for me.Find your groove and be patient.

I have been a "perimeter shopper" for about 10 years now. Single ingredient shopping has lots of benefits, one of which is you know exactly what you just ate. I wouldn't expect the change overnight, but might be something to think about working towards over the next year. (For example.. get plain chicken breast instead of Tyson's breaded, extruded, chopped, processed, colored, salt added chicken patties).
Herbal teas are a great way to get flavor variation in calorie free fluids. Flavored black teas are good too, but you want to be aware of the caffeine content. (I drink caffeine, but everyone is different).
I don't know if you can tolerate dairy, but yogurt and cottage cheese are very convenient means of getting Protein. There is a protein Kefir drink. Not everyone's cuppa.. but 40g protein/bottle. Lifeway I think.
With the daily walking, try to get your calories up to 1000 asap.
    Your journaling is excellent!

I usually respect everything you have to say about these surgeries. You definitely have a lot to say and it's often very helpful. But your pessimistic and condescending tone have no value here. People want support, not ridicule. And to be respected, you also need to be empathetic.
    Thank you for your understanding.

I am on my 3rd week today. I made some tuna salad....7 ounce can of chicken of the sea with 2 tablespoons of the Kraft Mayonnaise made with Avocado Oil. I added onion powder and parsley flakes. Dry weight of can is 6 ounces so I divided the whole lot into 3 servings. The mayo literally did not taste any different than regular and it has half of the fat of regular. I highly recommend it as I did not have dumping but....every BODY is different.

You will be surprised by just how much of certain foods you can eat. I'm almost 2 years out and I remember what it felt like to only be able to keep broth down to now I can consume almost all of a big mac. The taco test with me was also a big step for me. I remember only being able to take 3 bites of a taco. That switched to being able to eat an entire taco. That became being able to eat 2 tacos. pizza stayed the same. I can only eat 1 slice. Before surgery I could eat an entire large pizza, bread sticks, salad, and desert. salad boggles my mind. I can literally eat a gigantic portion of salad. It's just crazy and I don't know how I'm able to eat that much. popcorn as well. I can eat an entire large bucket of popcorn at the movies. Luckily I don't go to the movies that often.
Also, you will find that each day is different. Some days you can't keep anything down or even the amounts that you know you have eaten before. Other days it seems like you can eat far more than usual. I don't understand why this is so either. However, i think that it may be due to mucous in the stomach. When there is a lot of mucous you may not be able to eat much.

If it makes you feel any better OP I just told people I was dieting and cut most carbs and sugar out. Went out to eat had some seafood, couldn't eat much, but there were no questions because I've already told my friend I was dieting. People notice you eat significantly less, but you don't have to tell them you had surgery. Tell them you're dieting. Also, disclaimer, it was a little easier for me to get away with this because my surgeon skips the purée stage completely.

I was VERY thankful for my walker. I ordered mine from Amazon but you may check your local Council on Aging and they might rent or allow you to borrow one. Landyards!!! I linked 2 together just for showers and another for my "daywear" (fancy I know). MY personal #1 used weird thing was I tied a long thick ribbon to the footboard of my bed then used a safety pin to pin it to my shirt when I went to bed so when I had to get up I could wrap the ribbon around my wrist a couple times and pull myself upright without any pain. A bar of antibacterial soap just to hand wash my incisions and naval in the shower also gave me piece of mind.

I wish I had ordered a second abdominal binder (found a healthcom 3 in 1 postpartum recovery girdle belt on Amazon $20.58). I tried wearing Spanx while washing/drying my original binder and I was very uncomfortable.

You'll be so very happy afterwards Jen - if you think up any questions please feel free to ask away!!! I'm only short of 3 weeks out of surgery.

ReesesGurl reacted to AGreenEyedWolf in Eating solid foods after surgery did you slip up ?
I tried to stick to straight Splenda or other sugar substitutes after surgery... but I love fruit, and while I don't eat certain types of fruit (no apples or peaches or pears unless they are skinless... no pineapple because it is too stringy, etc) I do have strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and occasionally grapes. And yes - I have "slipped" a couple times - I don't eat Cookies or cakes or muffins anymore EVER no matter WHAT... but I have eaten about an eighth of a cup of low fat, sugar free ice cream twice... and I ate about 5 teaspoons of regular pudding once (I can't stand the taste of sugar free pudding and really was craving something sweet - my son's snack drawer was too close for comfort LOL).
It's not just sweets, either... I do my best to stay away from the temptation - but I am not going to deny the other people in my home the things they want just because I can't have those things - there are many nights I make stir fried meat and veggies for me - but then also make burgers and fries or meatloaf and mashed potatoes or chicken tenders and rice - or something like that - for my husband and son. My husband tries to tell me to make something we can ALL eat together - but most of the stuff they like I am trying to avoid... I can't eat a sandwich or fish sticks or pizza... and the stuff I make for myself might not be what they want (since I eat the exact same meal sometimes 3 times a day for a week or more without changing it at all). And I try not to put myself in a position to be tempted - I try not to bring too many chips, pretzels, popcorn, candy, sweets, etc into the house - but if my husband wants Doritos, he is an adult and I can't tell him no - I just stay away from it so I am not tempted. Yesterday, we went to my son's friend's birthday party - everyone around me enjoyed pizza, cake and ice cream. I normally excuse myself from the room but this time I sat there and watched everyone else enjoy the food - all I ate was the cheese off of one slice and my husband ate the crust for me since I can't eat that. I realized I can be around it and not be too tempted - that I was strong enough to say no - which was good to know.
