BGCSTP01 reacted to CQ209 in 3 months update
I'm almost 3 months too (I'm 11 weeks), and I am down 57 pounds since the start of this, and 40 pounds since my surgery date. I just came out of a pretty rough three week stall, but I appear to have come out of it. I was stuck at 202 for so long, and I'm finally in ONEderland. I haven't been at this weight since middle school! 40 more pounds to go to reach my goal!
Starting Weight: 250
Surgery Weight: 233
Current Weight: 193

Here's the Calcium - it's Caltrate, not Citracal, oops. It tastes fairly good (sort of like Sweet Tarts) so I tend to think of it as my daily candy.

Make sure theres at least 2hrs between taking any Iron supplement and Calcium Citrate. The body can't absorb them at the same time. -

If you continue losing at this rate you will be at 100 lbs within 1 year. There is nothing bad about this.

You may want to talk to your surgeon and your nutritionist. However 50 pounds in 6 months isn't bad. Sounds like you are just at a stall.

I use the Citracal Calcium +D3 chewables. They taste pretty good and don't affect me weirdly. They have fewer carbs than some of the chewables or bites - I had some before that almost made me dump because of the sugar!

After surgery I discovered that I could no longer swallow medium to large pills. So I used pill splitters and pill crushers. This condition lasted for about 2 months and then things returned back to normal. Citracals are what I call horse pills. They are very large. In the beginning I had to crush the pills into powder and mix them with Crystal Light drink in order to take them. The main problem other than the fact that they tasted like chalk, was that they formed a paste at the bottom of the glass, so I had to refill my glass several times in order to get them to go down.

BGCSTP01 reacted to Maleficent in Something Stuck?
I am a month and a half out and have twice experience what I think is food getting stuck. The first time I ate a small piece of cantaloupe and an hour later I was in extreme discomfort and throwing up every 5 or so minutes. I tried sipping Water but that just caused pain and came right back out. This lasted for 3 hours until finally the cantaloupe came back up and I slowly felt back to normal despite being tired and sore. Well today I was preparing my smoothie fruits for freezing and tried a blackberry, I didn't chew it enough and down it went almost whole. Well que 1 hour later and I start to feel ill and now I'm in this painful and uncomfortable cycle again. The blackberry has yet to make an appearance and I'm really at a loss for what to do. I have definitely learned my lesson on making sure things are chewed but I would like to have some tips in case this ever happens again. Thank you!

BGCSTP01 reacted to catwoman7 in Weight loss stopped after a couple of days!
it's not *always* the third week, but it is for most people. I had mine weeks 2 and 3. I started dropping weight quickly again during week 4. Just hang in there and stick to your program. The stall will break.

It depends, I had semi slow bowels prior to surgery. I'd have a bm 1x/day prior to surgery most of the time. But it took miralax and Fiber to jump start things. But I had stay on the miralax and fiber routine. It wasn't unexpected in my case.

Constipation will be a thing if you don't get enough fluids. Eat Popsicles, drink Water or crystal light, or hot tea. It is so hard to do, but the more you drink, the easier it is on your bowels. The more Protein you have, then you need more Fluid as well. Doc said not to worry too much about the protein the first few weeks. liquid, liquid, liquid.

I was constipated for 7 days after surgery. I was so miserable that I finally called my surgeons office and I was told that I could take milk of magnesia

It took 5 days for me to have BM after surgery. The first couple of days I dont think I was eating enough to have a BM. My doctor prescribed stool softeners and I started taking them my second night home.

Every doc is different on their procedures regarding this. It's not too much tmi to them. Ask, but the usual is Miralax and stool softeners. Dosages can change for postop bariatric patients, so check with your surgeon's office.

BGCSTP01 got a reaction from CurvyCakes in Starting Pre-Op High Protein Liquid Diet Tomorrow
Hello Bariatric Pals,
After a year of back and forth, I was sick enough to get the Gastric ByPass approval from the insurance. I start my Pre-Op High Protien liquid diet tomorrow with surgery scheduled on 03/30/2017. I am very nervous about how this liquid died week will be. Please share your stories and insight when you went through this. Like everybody on this board, looking for positive vibes. I am also nervous about the surgery, is that normal? Is it normal to feel that I may not walk out of the hospital?
Thanks,
B

You'll be fine on your liquid diet. I was on mine for 21 days. Nerves are normal... you're having a major surgery. But you will walk out of the hospital.
