  1. My family thinks that I look fine and that I should simply exercise and eat less. I want to get this surgery and I'm ready to overcome the difficulty of first stages of surgery. It is hard enough being obese and feeling like a prisoner in my skin. I have a lot of girls nights with my friends where we drink wine so it will be sad not to be able to drink again. Thank you for your support!

I'm almost 6 months out from RNY and literally so happy I made this decision.

I'm 25 and my parents had said the same thing. They love me but elective surgery is a scary thing for a parent to support for their child. When I told the chances of me losing in my own and keeping it off after a lifting of obesity they were still skeptical. Now my parents are 100% supportive

The drinking part or not drinking part is hard socially. My friend had the surgery and drank about 8 months out, she just gets completely **** faced after one glass of wine and her drink choices changed. It's suppose to be one year with out alcohol, if you can't do that you might want to think about your life. It's weird socially eating out / drinking at first but you'll fall into a routine

  2. I'm actually 8 weeks today! I feel great! I am down 36 lbs and 54 total since I started the process. I wasn't sure which one I wanted either so after my research I took the advice the nut and surgeon because they have seen thousands and thousands and I figured they knew what was best . The fatigue is real after the surgery for about 6 weeks but gets better.

  4. How are you guys losing so much weight within the first couple of months. I had surgery march 21st and I've lost only 31lbs . And I've been between 28 and 31 lbs for the last month . It's so annoying because it's like I can't lose anymore.
    What should I do ?

I had my March 23 and I have only lost 31 pounds as well…

  5. I told my parents and my closest sibling, and several of my best friends a few months before surgery and then my other 6 siblings and friends a week before surgery. I'm 7 weeks out and some coworkers know. I'm not hiding it from anyone, if it comes up I'll tell because I stand by my decision but I'm also not advertising it

  7. So yesterday at work I had a yogurt around nine or ten, The triple zero Kind and got busy working on a project. I noticed while talking to my friend and I messed up her boyfriends name three times in a conversation and I was just very scatterbrained. I was reloading binders and my hands are shaky so I got a Protein Water and drank almost all of it and kept working. Around 2 o'clock I realized I was really hungry and so I drink a Protein Drink mixed in one cup skim milk. I still felt really awful and try to work while drinking it but kept making mistakes. I decided that my sugar might be low so I drove to Walmart and bought a BG meter and got back to the office and my glucose was 78. Around 438 a no sugar added applesauce andwent to an appointment. Got home at 7:30 took my BG and it was 61. This morning I woke up and felt fine and had a yogurt applesauce and a I so pure throughout the dayand when I got homecheck my sugar and it was 80. Around nine well I was making egg whites I checked my sugar again because I had a headache and it was 60. Should I be concerned or just need to eat more often? Where should my numbers be after I eat and how often should I test. Thursday I will be five weeks out and down about 25 pounds I have not lost anything this week

  8. It sounds like you might not be ready for the surgery. I know before my surgery and pre op diet I had a bunch of "last suppers" where I had all the foods I wanted. After a few meals though I didn't want anything else because the surgery and becoming healthy was more important to me so I started my pre op diet early and lost 17 lbs. The surgery doesn't fix determination and self control that's still on you. If you can't get a grip on your self before maybe you should push your surgery back until you can.

  9. This thread is the exact reason why most vets have left. A PRE OP letting everyone know how much of an expert they are.
Get back to us when you've actually experienced losing the weight and then have successfully maintained it for a while. Otherwise, keep your "help" to moral support, hmmmmm?

Don't leave some of us newbies need you guys! Too many expert newbies not enough people who have been around the block

  10. I know a bit about the surgery because I did over a year's worth of classes and seminars, listen to two doctors I trust, know people who had the surgery, and I read, a lot.

The original post wasn't callous, it was frank and blunt. I never claimed to think it's a quick fix and expressed, specifically, my disappointment with those who carry on like it is.

And no hatred, but disappointment and disgust. I'm fine with it.

Your straw man argument is cute.

And since you seem to be a shrink and all, your opinion truly matters : )

Glad to hear that you have put so much effort into your decision and educated your self.

I'm not sure what straw man argument you think is cute. To be clear I never said you thought the surgery was a quick fix as it is apparent you have educated your self.

  11. I have been trying to be diligent getting in my three 1/2 cup purée meals and 2 Protein Drinks however I have been missing about 1 meal and 1 Protein Drink because anything I put in my stomach in the morning hurts! I take my meds and have Water and then the pain usually deters me until about 11. I am getting between 300-400 calories a day and when I eat all I'm supposed to be it's around 500-600 (is this too much 2 weeks post op)

  12. I'm going to have surgery in June with the likelihood my date is moved up. I had joined a Facebook bariatric group thinking I'd find support and possibly friends there, but unfortunately left the group due to the outrageous number of posts regarding how soon people could eat pizza, drink alcohol, eat I cream or drink soda pop, etc., etc. then the myriad of unhealthy recipes that were posted was upsetting, even as I scrolled past them. Then, I came here. It's the same difference. The people who have knowledge are vastly outnumbered by the addicts and self indulgent. What's worse is if anybody speaks the truth, which is that the vast majority of people here are seeking a quick fix, don't want to put in the work, are food addicts and compulsive over eaters, and even lazy, then they risk the wrath of people who disagree and want to mess up for their own ignorant and selfish reasons. Stupidly and indulgence win out the day.
I'm always from the school of thought if I know something or have information I ought to impart that to others. Knowledge is power and the truth is always better.
It pisses me off to have to keep my mouth shut so that stupid or misinformed people win out the day spreading their crap all over these forums and ruining it for those of us who actually can use the encouragement and not use this site as a crutch for our self indulging.
    I was thinking of leaving.
Then I realized I'm not alone after reading a post on here expressing the same outrage. Plus, I'll stick around for the few people who actually can use the help and viable info, not to mention have real issues with support outside these forums for reasons beyond what is normal, either they have limited net access and funds, or get a doctor that isn't up to par, plus I feel it's my duty to give out the correct information. And yes, there is actually correct information about this stuff. It's really easy to find and a great doctor will give it.
Some of what I read is preposterous. Reading stupid crap such as it's okay to drink soda or pop because the stomach muscle left over from the surgery won't stretch - B.S! NOT TRUE, and if that isn't the worst if it, not acknowledging what sugar and fake sweeteners do to our bodies is the icing on the cake. Nobody is that daft in 2017.
Rather than attack and change the nature of the addictions, people seek any excuse to indulge them. It's tiresome and boring. Have some guts, and stop spreading stupidity to others.
Believe it or not, some of us want to be healthy and actually live longer by correcting the habits that got us here in the first place.
If you don't like it, fine. It's not my job to encourage bad behavior, not for myself or anyone else. Leave a rude comment or not, that's your bit. At the end of the day it's about adding years to our lives and making the best out of a tool that not everybody has an opportunity out to use.

You seem to know a lot yet haven't had your surgery. Not saying I disagree with what you said but you were quite callous in how you said it. It seems like you have a lot of hatred towards those that are struggling or you feel felt the surgery was a quick fix. If I would have to guess you are facing judgement or stigma somewhere in your life about your decision to get surgery and are projecting here.
