  1. You got some great answers here so I'll just add that my experience mirrors them. Dense protein fills me up fast and most times I can only eat 2-2.5oz and then 1 oz of veggies. I usually put 4oz on my plate, but even now at 9 weeks post-op I don't always finish it.
  2. I use cauliflower rice at least twice a week. Zucchini noodles work well in so many recipes and definitely fill the void for pasta. I am getting to the point where I don't crave those foods anymore at all.
  3. I wonder if this true for individuals that weren't always heavy, but gained their weight due to thyroid issues and developing insulin resistance? I started gaining weight at 39-40 and just couldn't get it off. I have no doubt that maintenance is going to be hard. That is why I am doing my best to take the advice of the vets here. I am developing good habits and have started running 4 days a week. I hope these things will be enough to help me when I get there.
  4. I do that too, but then I remember that i rarely play the lottery lol. It could happen though and for sure we would have a blast!
  5. The only issue I have with eating is when I forget and eat too fast. I end up with this tightness in my chest and I have to walk around for a few minutes. I have been trying very hard to avoid this. what exactly has been your problems? Have you talked with your doctor about it?
  6. You have to stop posting this food porn lol ( joking). @Newme17 I need to take cooking lessons from you because your dishes always look ? so yummy.
  7. Congrats and welcome @JoJo_C. You are the first man to post on our thread. I hope you will stick around and join us.
  8. I was 183 this morning so 25 lbs down since surgery. ?
  9. Congrats on losing 2 pounds this week @Newme17. That is awesome☺️ I am averaging 1-1.5 lately with 10 days of no loss in between. I am fine with that. I really wish we all lived closer so we could meet up and support each other. You all keep me motivated and I thank you!!
  10. I wish I could eat this right now lol. My mouth is watering.
  11. I have Hashimotos and I am eating LCHF or Keto. I am limiting my carbs to 30-35g daily and I feel like I am doing well. I don't crave carbs anymore at all. I eat about 1-2oz of veggies at lunch and dinner and it seems to be enough. I also take a probiotic and that has helped tremendously with keeping me regular.
  12. Personally I think it is a combination of mindset, never changing their relationships with food, and laziness. Processed and fast food is easy. My mindset is the changes I am making now must be for life. These changes are not a diet, they are a healthy lifestyle. I know plenty of people that eat healthy and don't indulge in junk food or sweets and they have never had a weight problem. I don't understand why some people consider healthy food selections and portions as a restrictive diet mentality?
  13. Congrats!!! You look great. Feeling better is probably the best NSV there is. I feel the same at only 9 weeks post-op.
  14. This worked for me. You learn how your body works day to day so you get used to seeing the ups and downs.
  15. I have veggie spiral tool that makes them. It is super easy and they taste great as a replacement for pasta in almost any dish. I even slice zucchini thinly and layer it for a lasagna dish.
  16. Praying for a fast recovery for you. Thanks for posting this as a warning to everyone to go to the ER if they aren't sure about the symptoms they are having.
  17. For me I think eating patterns and behaviors would be a good pre-op class. Many times we don't even realize how we are eating until we consciously think about it. Second would be mindset and motivation. I think when the going gets rough we will need this to help remember why we had the surgery, and also to set small attainable goals to keep us moving.
  18. This two time over!!!! Depending on brand I am either a L, XL, or 2X. I tried to order some tank tops online and went by their sizing charts and what some reviewers had said.... big fail. I was trying to save a little money and time, but I have learned you have to try everything on.
  19. I lost 24# in 8 weeks and I am over the moon. I can't remember when the last time was that I lost 12 # a month? The greatest part though is how good I feel. I haven't felt this healthy in probably 10 years. I have ditched 2 diabetes medications and I am looking forward to my morning runs. I never thought I would ever be saying these things.
  20. This is how I feel. By weighing myself everyday I see the variations and I don't freak out when I am bouncing back and forth between 1-3 pounds. I only record my weight on Monday mornings, but I like weighing once per day just to see the pattern. I don't stress about the numbers,
  21. If I remember correctly he said using protein shakes for the first several months was fine, but we should wean ourselves away from them once we can eat enough protein from Whole Foods. I agree but I also think keeping a few low carb shakes in an otherwise healthy diet won't hurt me.
  22. I enjoy a high protein coffe shake every morning. It gives me 20g of protein and 2 shots of expresso to start my day. This is an improvement for me as I used to skip breakfast altogether.
  23. This is just my opinion and my experience, I am not a nutritionist so keep that in mind. I would eat the pepperoni and cheese melted and leave the crust. Have a small amount of this and see if it satisfies your craving. I don't think finding healthy alternatives to the foods we loved is bad as long as it doesn't lead us to over eat or constantly indulge head hunger. For me I am focusing on learning to love all the healthy foods I have to choose from and staying away from trigger foods all together. This doesn't mean I will never have a bite of something in the future, but I really want to leave those foods behind for the most part. I have started running and I am developing a habit toward fitness and spending time with that.
  24. I am a carnivore through and through, but I am also trying to incorporate more vegetable only meals into my week. I am focusing on fish , chicken, and turkey and trying to reduce the frequency that i eat red meats. Thank you for your comments. It is hard sometimes to communicate well through written word without offending people, even when your intentions were to help. I have failed at this many times. some posters are more direct, but most of the time their advice is good and I wouldn't discount it.
  25. I think many people are ready to go back to work at 2 weeks so that is probably why the date was set. You have to listen to your body and do what is best for you. Not everyone heals as quickly as others and some people deal with fatigue for quite a while after surgery. I was blessed because I felt really good and had very little pain post-op. I was more than ready at 2 weeks to return to work. If you have the time take and need it then for sure stay home until you feel the time is right.
