MSinger reacted to OutsideMatchInside in Did anyone start questioning surgery after having success with the preop diet? Having
No, I didn't have success with the pre-op diet and I was miserable and starving the whole time. All it did was convince me I needed surgery. Losing weight without being hungry is amazing.

MSinger reacted to biginjapan in Did anyone start questioning surgery after having success with the preop diet? Having
I lost more weight pre-op (22 pounds in 3 weeks) than in any month post-op (the highest was 18 pounds in a month). But did I ever second-guess my decision to self-pay for my surgery? Absolutely not. Anyone can lose weight. The problem I think almost everyone here has is that it's almost impossible to keep off - the body fights back to get back to where it was. You get the dreaded plateau and start to gain again. In 6 months post-op the scale has only gone down for me (like a series of steps - holds steady for a week or two, then just drops). That has never happened in 20+ years of trying to lose weight. Think of the surgery as a reset button for your body - it gives you a fresh start, instead of the enormous handicap (metabolic set-point, possible insulin and leptin resistance, etc) that you will be dealing with if you don't have the surgery.

Mine are bad, but I have noticed over the past 3 months they are improving. Give it some time once you are done losing and you might be surprised.

Thank you for all the support. He is home and back to being his rambunctious self. I told him, we are twins and licked my nose and curled up with me. I had seriously missed him while he was in the hospital. Now he is talking back and catching his little attitudes like normal, except he cannot jump off of the couch (low couch) anymore lol. Now he goes in the corner and turns his back to me. He is such a teenager.

I know people are iffy on eggs, but they are such a good reset food. Lots of protein, lower calorie... I feel bad for folks whose sleeves don't agree with eggs because they are such a good food source.

MSinger got a reaction from Apple1 in Hello everybody I new to this forum but wanted to share my story . I started my weigh
There are quite a few people I've seen post here they weren't working out too much. There are plenty of ways to get to the finish line, and you picked the route that would get you there.
I stay active, but wouldn't really say that I work out because of how little activity I can tolerate. If I push myself I sometimes get dizzy, or I get extremely hungry later in the day. I'd eventually love to add more activity in, but my #1 priority right now is losing weight. Congratulations on your success!

MSinger reacted to Nhope in I’m so worried that I am already failing at this. My mom had gastric bypass 15 years
Please be kind to yourself! You're changing a lifetime of eating habits. It's like you're relearning how to eat, which means you have to find out what works and doesn't. And remember--bypass 15 years ago is different than bypass today. You get to forge your own path.

MSinger reacted to pfisher in Struggling at the moment, the last few days have been pretty bad. Feeling frustrated
Hi...
Isn't is something how we can let some poor choices dictate so much sometimes? I've spent countless hours beating myself up over having a brownie instead of fruit. Which led to thinking that eating healthy wasn't something I could do, so why bother? And that's how I ended up being so miserable at my highest weight.
As I journey toward sleeve surgery, I'm working hard on not beating myself up when I fall. I decide that the next diet choice or exercise moment will be a healthy one. Then I follow through. And my husband keeps me accountable. Knowing he will ask how I worked off that brownie keeps me honest.
Keep making healthy decisions, forgive yourself when you slip, and don't look back. Keep moving toward the goals you've set for yourself.

Hang in there, the goal is not to be perfect, but close to perfect. The less time you spend hung up on bad decisions you may have made, the quicker you move on to better ones.

That is awesome, congrats on your new life as a much smaller you!!
Well it is never too late to start exercising so good for you on hitting the gym. I have read that losing weight is 80% diet and only 20% exercise so your journey proves that. I do believe it is important for other reasons so I started at 3 weeks post-op.
I hope you will stick around and I look forward your posts.

Thank you all. The knee feels pretty good. Just a little sore when I get up from sitting. Still hoping it is nothing but soreness.

MSinger reacted to Newme17 in Does anyone purposely go to bed hungry or do you eat if you're hungry right at bedtim
Thank you all for your responses. When I think about why I was hungry last night, I realized that all I ate were veggies for dinner. Sure, a bit of cashews, but nothing that would keep me for a few hours at least. So, poor choice on my part. I'll have to work on that. I think I'll stick to not eating before going to bed, BUT I will make sure I have something protein-filling around 7 or 8pm, so I won't be super hungry like I was last night. I did wake up this morning very hungry, so I ate a scrambled egg about 6:30 am! I usually don't eat till nearly 10.
Still working out the kinks of this new stomach, so...thank you again for your inputs. I'll surely use them.

I don't eat after my 7pm snack (which is usually a cup of yogurt). Occasionally I'll be really hungry and have a small late night snack with lots of protein (I had a slice of smoked salmon last night), but I feel bloated and icky the next morning when I eat too late the night before.

Yes, rest that leg! I know it's tempting to get back out there, but one day is better than several weeks if you injure yourself. You're making the right choice

I was hoping it would. I don't want to be getting stares cause my stomach is talking to me. I might put a hat on it along a mustache and say it is just my overgrown twin trying to come out.

MSinger got a reaction from Sweet as peaches in Does the noise in your stomach after you eat ever goes away? Always everytime I eat c
I'm only 9 weeks post op, but my stomach noises have gotten much quieter. The only time I notice it acting up is if I eat too quickly.
