    Sabotaging Myself

Of you can't find a therapist find an Overeaters Anonymous group, go to the library and get books written by eating disorder therapists, ask if your hospital has a wls group or would start one.

    Insurance Requirement Question

I have Humana - Illinois HMOx. I received the same info that you did. Don't call, log in online and use the communication tool and ask questions there, that way you have a written record. I asked specific questions and requested specific answers - how many preop visits required, how long is the medically supervised diet required to be, what type of exercise log/program is required, etc. The reply was that the duration and program was up to the physicians/surgeon. They answered me within 2 days each time I submitted. Print these out (keep a copy for your records) and take to the surgeon's office and give them to whoever handles the insurance submissions. Keep in touch.
  4. Welcome and stay in touch with your bariatric team during the entire process. Yoga dvds might be an exercise you should try, or guided imagery meditation. I cannot give advice on the eating disorders but can suggest reading Geneen Roth's books. Good luck.
  5. I am just beginning - wlsurgery is 5 months away, but I am a bit of a research junkie! I like knowing as much as possible about where I am headed. I did the same with batiatric options. My ins doesn't have an in-network surgeon within 60 miles so I asked to be referred to an out-of-network one and they will cover it as soon as I jump through all the program hoops. I could have driven 147mi to in-network one and my PCP said that is where she refers to - but I said NO. I am going to the surgeon I want that is closer, they don't make you take a year to go through the program and they are way more respectful.
  6. I have been researching ps docs and he seems to specialize in bariatric/extreme weight loss patients. I figure I will be self pay, so find one that has this expertise. Also anyone over 60 planning ps? Anyone have this doc or know of him?
  7. Well..I don't like peeps BUT they are good for one thing, if ya toast them for s'mores the sugar coating burns pretty colors.... (Those darn girl scouts...)

    Little Black Dress

    Wowza!
  10. Newcomer, lurking mostly. I need tips on what are good ways to 'practice' the new rules for eating after surgery beforehand. I am concerned with no liquids during meals and how to manage that. Thanks to anyone offering advice.
  11. Thank you for the responses.

    100 lb milestone

Congrats for all the hard work. Treat yourself to a massage and flowers. Thank your body for all it has done for you.
  15. Can you find a part time seasonal job to help you reach this goal? YOU are worth every penny this is going to take. As far as saving for a wedding - think how much easier it will be to find a dress on a sale rack after you reach your healthier weight.
  16. http://www.bliscompany.com/#BariatricSurgery Someone posted this elsewhere, I don't have any experience with it.

    Disgusted

There is a difference between education and experience, nothing like experience to sometimes get a painful education. Use kind words whenever you can, blame and shame might have contributed to the reason we need weight loss surgery in the first place.
  18. I can't speak for the OP, but for me reading Geneen Roth's books is helping me. She believes we think we cannot get filled up with whatever is missing and we turn to food to fill that need, and food comforts us and gives us that 'love/acceptance' we are looking for, calms anxiety, is our constant friend that is always there. Somewhere we have been told that we are not good enough or that we are 'too much'(too emotional, too needy, too too too). We need to be kind to ourselves, learn to trust ourselves, find another way to soothe ourself that is loving.

    Sick of the BS

This advice may have already been given, but here goes. Join some hobby or trade groups that might interest you. Like dancing, fishing, biking, something at the local park district. Take a class at a community college in woodworking, pottery, computers, anything. Learn to golf, ride a motorcycle, archery, ride horses. The goal here is to just meet more people, expand your network so to speak. When I stopped looking for a date, he practically landed on my doorstep - 21 years ago and I had been married before for 18 years, divorced, had 4 teenagers, and all. I stopped looking and started having fun.
