@Lainey H The book made me realize that I was giving food too much power and I was carrying guilt. Each person has to get to their own truth.

Nausea on preop diet?
Sosewsue61 replied to kassgar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sucks, no 2 ways about it. What exactly are you consuming (brand, type, etc)? -
Maybe she is just against doing it in Mexico? I would wait and get it straight from her instead of her staff. Flat out ask her what her specific objections are? Have you been battling obesity for years, have you dieted only to gain back more? Some physicians are very biased. Just because she is good at being a PCP does not mean she is well informed in the area of obesity. Ask her how many obese patients in her practice have been on a program under her to lose weight and have maintained it?

Ditto what everyone has posted. I am sleeved one week, and on no pain meds, not regretting one minute. I too lost 70lbs on Weight Watchers and then stopped tracking and going to meetings and being honest. You need to examine your attachment to food, and develop a better relationship with it. You might try counseling or reading some books by Geneen Roth. As far as anecdotal evidence from the forums, everyone's health before surgery can determine the outcome plus different genetics. Also compliance - people can lie about what they are eating and drinking. You alone need to make the choice based on what you want. Good luck.

Post op cheating
Sosewsue61 replied to sweetsleeveday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well as for me, there is no way I am going to put anything remotely solid or dense in there until I am supposed to. My strained/blended soup had no noodles or anything like that - mostly some carrots and a couple green beans. As much as some tuna sounds sooo good I am not a gambler. I will suffer the the damn protein drinks as long as required - besides I already bought them, may as well consume them. -
Post op cheating
Sosewsue61 replied to sweetsleeveday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think of 'cheating' in terms of partaking of forbidden/bad food choices rather than advancing the stages. I realize the swelling and healing prohibits eating dense food early for good reasons - don't risk damaging the sleeve. The two examples posted so far are just advancing sooner, most likely based on the individual's tolerance this first week with just liquids. I am 5 days sleeved, today I did stick blend then strain a chicken vegetable soup, thinned it w bone broth. Cream soups/milk products are week 2 and puree for my plan is week 3, soft mushy week 4. I am tolerating an 11oz 30gr shake in 15 minutes and on no pain meds since Thursday. -

What's normal eating post surgery ??
Sosewsue61 replied to comtngirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The sleeve is a suitable option for your medical conditions. Many veteran sleevers on here have had those conditions completely reversed by the sleeve. Now about food, you are sounding worried about consuming quantities of food...which means you need to examine just HOW important is a sandwich after all? Advice can be given to give equal weight to both scenarios - #1 - protein, then veg, then what will fit or #2 - everything but smaller amounts. Your body will need the correct grams of protein to maintain muscle and keep your metabolism fired up or you will suffer deficiencies during the weight loss phase. You have to decide how important the food is to you - more than your health? You will be able to have a small amount of most foods - but not until you are closer to maintenance. Some people never tolerate rice, bread, or pasta and consider them inferior nutrition for a bariatric program. Restriction is the whole idea of the surgery, it isn't the hard part. The hard part is your relationship with food. -
Never Ending Comments About my Body
Sosewsue61 replied to Kat410's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Co-workers are co-workers and how can we ever know their true motivations? Some will be genuinely supportive and others motivated by anything new to talk about positive or negative. You have to plan your reactions and then let go and move on. It's your internal and external journey and not theirs - just take ownership and filter it out. -
Liquid Diet Started Today
Sosewsue61 replied to rayb70's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@FL*Girl it is likely both. Your body is used to caffeine and carbs and going through withdrawal. And yes it sucks and shakes still suck post-op too. But it will be a faded memory at some point. Hang in there. -
Before the surgery
Sosewsue61 replied to ojosbrillantez's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Chose sleeve, because I did not want malabsorbtion. You may want to think about how you would have adequate nutrition if you want children, as the bypass would make that a lot more difficult. Also the nurse practicioner at my PCP had bypass and she developed ulcers in the unused stomach that is left in after bypass, she also has B12 deficiency. The pouch created in bypass still has the fundus part of the stomach and it can stretch, whereas this is not an issuebw the sleeve. I was sleeved 5 days ago and doing very well. -

Ask to be put on a list for cancellations - like if someone cancels an appt and you can go on short notice. Good luck. -
I would be pizzed about this. This is def a HIPPA violation. Schedule a mtg w the supervisors and tell them you know one of them let the cat out of the bag and that it violates HIPPA. Ask them if they would like it if one of them had an STD and people started coming up to them to ask how they got it??? People are going to be nosey, happens everywhere. If they already know and are interjecting themselves into your privacy - just say - 'you are my co-workers and if this is genuine concern that is appreciated - but my health is between me and my physicians and I expect you to respect my privacy. I am following my Dr.'s orders' Then walk away. You don't owe ANYONE any of your business ever.

I could consume 800-850 calories in shakes total 80gr protein, plus any broth, crystal light, sf jello, sf popsicles. I drank ready-made Premier, ready-made Isopure, Jay Robb packets - dreamsicle is my fav, Syntax nectar. Hospital - phone/charger, biotene spray, lip balm, slippers, robe, my own tea bags, hair brush, headband, and toiletries, and novel to read. I wore my same clothes home that I came in (leisure bra because it won't rub incisions.). My own pillow and lap quilt - was just to quell my nerves.

Hi Lesley, You sound like you are headed in the right direction. Go buy some new drawers woman!!! Which cruise did you take? I will be going on a 9 day cruise 4 months out from surgery. I have been sleeved for 3 days and doing ok - some gas pain and rumbling, a little tired. Just today I have managed 11/2 protein drinks and some vitamin water and broth - no picnic but managing. -

To weigh or not to weigh? That is the ??
Sosewsue61 replied to jcb123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it all depends on your tolerance level and accepting logical results. I am not going to weigh until the morning of my 1st follow up. After 3 weeks I will likely weigh myself more often. Typically I am a daily weigh-er, but I can't expect much excitement on losses until I am more healed. I don't feel anxious or like it's a race.
