Sorry to hear about your sister.
However, with ANY surgery comes risk. While your sister had the worst happen to her, many people, like myself have had this surgery with little to no complications. When you have struggled years or your whole life and you see how being severely obese takes away from your life you will do all that you can to help yourself. Most of us wouldn't have this surgery if we could do it on our own. We have all tried everything possible and while it may have worked short term, long term is the key. This surgery is life saving for so many people. Now, if someone needed heart surgery to save their life and because of the heart surgery they had a complication that was severe.. would you suggest they don't have the heart surgery as a chance to save their life? No, you would hope that they would do all that they could take the chance. it is the same principal Surgery is surgery, regardless of what kind there are risks. And to us the risks are worth it, leaks happen, I think everyone is made aware of it before surgery and knows it can happen. While it is scary and I feel for anyone who has to go through it, it is a risk you have to take. Again, I'm sorry to hear about your sister and stories like these let people know off all possibilities, please do not come on here basically insulting so many of us that have had LIFE SAVING surgery.

You are an idiot to post this here. I don't have any problem wih people posting their stories (even ones with bad outcomes), but in no way shape or form is this kind of situation common. The opposite is true. So stop trying to scare people away from LIFE SAVING surgery with your story. It would have been fine if you had told the story and left it at that. But no, you have to punctuate it at the end with your moronic advice and how you would never have weight loss surgery. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx violation of forum rules. People die from having their wisdom teeth out- should they not have surgery to alleviate their pain?

i have never cared much for soda, unless i had it in a alchoholic beverage. i dont drink anymore so no need for soda. i cant really tolerate BBQ Sauce or red sauces and i am 3 and a half mths post op. as far as lettuce it goes down so smooth i would eat a salad every day. i find soft foods work well with me .....i have truly learned to love yogurt and mashed potatoes, and talopia fish. so i eat that more than any other food. i love being sleeved so much i walk a mile a day, when i hadnt walked in two almost three years and now im on a mile and a half. would i get sleeved again yes in a heartbeat....

I am seven months post-op and have had a DREAM recovery. There are no foods that I have found that I can't tolerate. I COULD eat pretty much anything I want at this point.
I do occassionally (very rarely) have a coke zero or diet dr. pepper. I can't drink a whole 12oz can and I have to drink it VERY, VERY slowly. The carbonation just makes me uncomfortable. But, sometimes I will have it as a treat because it tastes SO GOOD! Often, I will find myself having a diet soda instead of ice cream when my husband wants to go to the DQ. It makes me happy and it still has fewer calories and carbs than even sugar free ice cream.
I don't eat steak much any more. I used to love a good rare (raw) steak. Now I have to chew it into oblivion for it to be anywhere near comfortable in my sleeve and that ruins it for me. I think I've had it once in the seven months since surgery. I still like the taste, and can eat it if I just absolutely have a craving and have to have it, but I really don't miss it at all.
I don't like fried foods anymore. I will still sneak one of my husband's french fries every now and again, but ONE is about it. I also have given up chips. Will occassionally have corn chips with ALOT of pico de gallo and LOVE vegetable chips. But those greasy potato chips that I used to love... gross!
So, don't think of it as stuff that you "can't ever have again". It will be more like stuff that you could have, but won't really want anymore.
Good luck! This was a fairly easy decision for me and I don't regret it at all! But, its different for everyone and I'm glad you're considering all the pros and cons up front!

It really does feel like major hunger. And agreed I have alot of noises when swallowing too. Maybe the feeling of "hunger" is thirst?

Maybe you're eating too much? I was sleeved the week before you, but I'm not on food yet... Protein Shakes and Clear Liquids for another 9 days.

While you are waiting for your sleeve to stretch out a bit, try yogurt or cottage cheese, eat 5 times a day, more liquid Proteins and veggies (V8), etc. It is really important to get your calories up to a sustainable level.

It's been a while since I was in that stage but best I can remember I sipped broth, Water and Premier Protein shakes, and then once I was cleared for eggs I ate scrambled eggs.

It gets better. I promise. I'm 7 months out now and can eat everything. You be surprised how much food can fit in at different volumes. You should be able to fit 2 - 3 oz of food now. Get a food scale and start meal prepping. Stay on track and don't let others people get you down. We're all here for you. Cheering you on. You got this.
