Return to my athletic desires. I love sports but my weight and pain has kept me from doing. I don't wanna be a bench warmer any more. Put me in coach!

If you ask for help and experienced sleevers take time out of their day to offer it don't get snarky at them for not "being supportive". This is what support looks like. They asked specific questions to ascertain what your idea of a meal plan looks like.
Are you logging every bite you take faithfully? I use SparkPeople.com daily and I'm 18 months out and 120 pounds gone at 66.
    Are you walking?
Are you drinking a Protein Drink like Premier Protein from costco with 30g of Protein?
How many calories a day are you ingesting?
How many grams of protein are you getting daily?
Are you drinking all your Water daily?
    What does your Dr recommend?

You are exactly one month out. How much weight have you lost?
I was a slower loser who dropped an average of 3 to 6 pounds per month. The important fact is that I attained my goal weight and have been able to maintain it so far.
This is your personal marathon, not a race in which you sprint next to others and compare your progress against theirs.
People focus too much on the weight loss phase when it is, in the bigger scheme of things, very unimportant. On the other hand, maintaining the weight loss is crucial. What is the point of losing 25 to 35 pounds monthly like Speedy Gonzales only to regain in the second or third year?
Nobody thinks regain will happen to them, yet 80 percent of all bariatric surgery patients regain some or all of the weight they've lost.
Good luck to you! And...stay off the scale for a while.

routine. I'm freezing all my drinks and eating them like crushed ice because straight names me sick. Drinking is hard so use to being able to take bigger drinks. Gluck!!

The surgery is the easy part.. everything that comes after henceforth, maintaining good habits, that's the challenge.
    Best of luck.

Your experience of homelessness and real starvation adds an extra layer of complexity to the struggle. I am so sorry you experienced that. I would consider those months traumatizing. Do you see a therapist? I'm in a trauma group for different reasons and it's good to have the support. Be kind to and patient with yourself. You deserve it.

There are always challenges. Two weeks after my surgery, a big group of my family came to visit us. We live by the shore in New Jersey. There is a famous pizza house on the boardwalk in Ocean City. My kids love to go there. They all knew that I couldn't have the pizza. But I went along with them. I nibbled on some cheese and sauce and left the crust. It worked out but there are always these challenges. On Easter Sunday was the birthday of one of my other children. We met her and her fiance at a restaurant that normally has a very big menu with early birds and everything. However we didn't realize that on Easter Sunday, there is a special menu. They had Soup on the menu which is my go to meal but the waiter told us that I could not just order soup. You must have an entrée also. So we worked around my soup and got some prawns which I shared with the family. Came to $30 for a bowl of soup and some prawns but those are the challenges. My mouth still waters when I smell a good steak broiling in the back in the kitchen of a restaurant. I was always a steak and potatoes man and I still enjoy the smell. My kids say that eventually I could have a filet mignon but no more 24 ounce cowboy ribeye. That gun to your head will always be there to protect you. Try going to a decent restaurant at times to challenge yourself. Just plan your meal ahead of time.

I know just what you mean. Tomorrow is my 3week post op and I too feel like ****. The surgical sites are not painful to me any longer. I haven't been on pain meds since day 3. Not because I didn't have pain but because I threw up every time I took it. The meds they gave me to keep that in check didn't work. I've been in the clinic 3x for fluids because I just can't hold enough down. I have hunger pains and when I eat or drink I get the gas pain that as you described as taking the breath out of me.
The trauma of surgery is no joke and the body needs time to heal. It's wonderful so many are doing great. I just wanted you to know you are not alone. I know we will be there too but the journey isn't as easy for all of us that's for sure.

I had the same thing at a week or so after surgery. It would wake me up from a sound sleep, and was very much physiological hunger. It would be eased by drinking a Protein Shake, but would be back again in a couple of hours. That feeling of hunger stayed with me until I started on solid food. Now at almost 4 weeks out I only feel hunger if I haven't eaten in several hours. It does get better, but it is hard to deal with while you are experiencing it. I felt very discouraged by the hunger feelings because I thought the surgery would curb that feeling. It did, it just took a while.

Thanks, I'm not sure what a PPI is but I have started taking Nexium which I suspect is in that family. I had an endoscopy pre-op & surgeon found evidence of gastric reflux, which I had been unaware of until that point, so it may well be stomach acid.
I hadn't realized that "head hunger" could actually physically feel like hunger - I thought it was more a craving for specific foods that I couldn't have any more.
I appreciate your taking the time to respond!

Are you taking a PPI like Protonix or something of that sort? Stomach acid production can give you that 'hunger' feeling, but it's also likely to be in part 'head hunger' which you just have to power through.

Keep doing what you're doing...as you move to more solid food, you'll start to feel the restriction of your sleeve.

    Hi Cass!
I'm feeling wonderful, thanks for asking! The ONLY possible complaint now is every now and then, I'll get some discomfort after I swallow something. It's very rare now though. I do get fatigued a little easier, but I'm sure that has to do with taking in less nutrients (on full liquids this week). Honestly, I can't believe how quickly the healing has happened!
I finally got a scale and weighed myself. As of this morning, I've lost 23 pounds! 10 were pre-op and 13 since last Tuesday.
My surgery was done by Dr. Luis Cervantes in Tijuana in case that's who is doing yours. He was wonderful!
I totally know what you mean about wanting to back out, but you're gonna do great and it will be all worth it. I've had my hard days, and I'm sure there are more to come, but I'd do it all over again. I already feel so much better and happier. It's hard to explain how much your taste buds and desire for food change after the surgery. There have been times where I thought I would kill for a chicken fried steak, but at this point, I'm just not as interested and I rarely feel hungry.
Best of luck to you! You can do this!

My surgery is tomorrow morning at 7:10, but I've been at the hospital for the research study for the last two days. They control my diet and menu and there are specific times I can eat. But today I started the Clear Liquids, five times a day. This blows. I give my hat off (if I wore one) to all you mandatory liquid dieters.
I've been stuck in a bedroom since 5 o'clock Friday night and not allowed to leave or sleep until my allotted bed time. Bored out of my mind I am, with a pretty bad caffeine headache for two days now. I'm still not nervous about the surgery. I'm actually looking forward to it to escape this jail I've been in. So, good luck to all you 24'thers tomorrow. Just think, by Tuesday the surgery will already be in our rear view mirror.
