Yeah I am having my surgery soon they said that they require 6months even the the insurance is saying they do not, my sister thinks the office is just trying to make more money which is fine I’m okay with the 6 months instead of 12 lol

Yes! I was just trying to be friendly and encouraging, but a year long wait to save my life? Yeah of course I would do it to save me, but I'd be livid! That's such an arbitrary length of time. I need to see some case studies of people who people who had to wait various length of times, and their outcomes. To me, it sounds like the government is punishing the poor. As usual.

  2. I don't know what to tell you friend. I certainly can't go back in time and tell them I need to complete 6 more months, even if I wanted to.

Nor do I know why the agent I spoke with would tell me wrong.

I know for a fact that in 2017 I switched from Molina MEDICAID to Blue Cross Complete MEDICAID because Molina require 12 but BCBSM require only 6. I was too poor for the commercial if either. If anyone cares to follow my posts, I had my surgery in February 2019 and promise I did NOT wait 12 month. I would have. Especially now that I've come to appreciate so much more about myself because of my journey. I didn't have however. If you do, don't worry about it! You'll do wonderfully, and you can only come out stronger having done more prep!

Hello to everyone! It's a bit late, but happy 4-year anniversary to everyone. (Can you believe it has been that long?). I hope everyone is doing well in their journeys.

I'm in a good place. I've gained about 20 pounds since my low weight (which frankly was too skinny, although I was thrilled at the time) and have managed to stay there for the last 2 1/2 years or so. I'm still following the plan pretty closely (high Protein, low carb, low fat, almost no sugar) but allow myself indulgences now and then, such as a glass of wine or a scoop of ice cream. At this point, I feel like I'm eating "normally," though it's definitely different than pre-surgery. I'm happy that I've developed healthy eating habits and don't really have to think about it any longer.

    4 years?!

I could quote this word for word, accept I will add that I'm big into fitness, particularly Jujitsu at a fantastic dojo. While I too gained 20lbs over my goal weight, it almost all muscle. For sometime I traded my addition of eating for exercise. I wasn't happy. It's felt just like when I was obsessed with eating. Counting, measure, weighing, starving. I had to turn things around because I was just repeating a path of insanity.

I'm at a so much happier place now! Now I push and strengthen and push by body for the challenge and increased quality of life. Not to escape my demons. Boy oh boy has this been an eye opening journey.

If I had to go back in time, I'd still happily do. Sooner in fact. But would have learned to love myself FIRST. Because for me, the depression, and self-guilt didn't leave along with fat. Nor did I gain well-being from the attention.

Once I began to work on my mind with the same determination that led me to work on my body, I became and am unstoppable!

    We've got this!

Okay I have a question I have blue cross complete of Michigan and I was told they do not have a waiting period but the bariatrics place Insist that since it is through Medicaid it is a 12 month program . So I’m a bit confused

You are correct. I have receipts for the current medical policy.

Click this link to the BCBSM website, or google bcbsm bariatric surgery medical policy MEDICAL POLICY - BARIATRIC SURGERY (GASTRIC SURGERY FOR MORBID OBESITY)

Once the pdf opens, press Ctrl+F on your keyboard. Type 4/20/21 in the search bar.

“Updated the policy to say 4 years for both BCBSM and BCN as per the JUMP’s recommendation and eliminated the 6 months waiting period statements”

I also called Blue Cross Complete @ 800 228 8554. I spoke with a very helpful rep who informed me that there is no waiting period for Blue Cross Complete (Medicaid) Only documented medical weight loss program within 4 years of surgery request. Doctors determine the length of their weight loss programs.

I’d give them a call and maybe do a three-way with your office manager.

  5. Been doing this thang! So many up and downs. Downs being living the life of a recovering addict. Ups being FEELING and looking sexy as f**k! 3 more lbs until I reach my short term goal. 13 more lbs until I reach my maintenance goal. Sometimes I miss being fact and pretending I don't give a f**k. One thing is for certain. I'll never regret having had this surgery!

  6. My biggest regret is rather silly. I regret that I didn't have this surgery a few years ago when my wife and I had our last baby. I was obese when I was pregnant and due to the way I carried my weight no one ever knew I was pregnant. I always wanted to be one of those tiny mommies with the huge bellies that they proudly show it off with beautiful maternity clothes. We're doing with babies now so it was never meant to be.

Can you share what app you are using to keep track of this? I love it

It's an app called Fitindex the goes with the digital scale I bought on Amazon. I don't believe the app works without the scale. I highly recommend them both! You can pair the app with Fitbit as well.

  8. So yesterday I made it to onderland! 198.2! I haven't been under 200lbs in a decade! It's all the morning monumental because I know I'll never again be over 200lbs.

I'm supposed to weigh myself weekly but I had to weigh myself today because I had a couple of shots of tequila yesterday night, and gluten-free pizza slice with extra cheese, chicken, and onions that was so good I was worried it was actually laden with carbs. 😂 It was all good though because now I'm sitting pretty at 196.8 but I'm not allowed to record anything until Friday. This month I'm hoping to make it to 180 something but my ticker has a conservative 190.

  9. This past weekend my wife and I went to the movies. I was so nervous because I reserved the "cuddling" seats. The last time I did that years ago my wife was pressed up in that chair like it was a clown car. I was so big. This time, room to spare and lots of cuddles!

  10. Thank you. You are so right. I really need to stop comparing my progress with a few others that were in my support group prior to surgery. I went to the groups for a few months pre-op and a few ppl had lost 40lbs in 1month post-op. I know everybody's journey will be diff, but i think I got excited and that number kinda stuck in my head as a target goal. I jst came back from working out at the gym trying to boost my mood and the scale said I lost a couple more pounds, making it 27lbs total, but I have decided that Im going to stop focusing so much on the pounds and inches. My emotions have been all over the place 2day. But, Yes..we've most certainly got this!!
I got one of those scales that will tell you everything about your body. I love seeing my muscle mass going up, and my bmi going down. Seeing the number go down in the amount of fat in my body is great too! I try not to concern myself with weight. I'd love to see the scale say 20% body fat! Get you one of those scales! So much better for my mental health. Especially during a stall. My weight may not move during one of my stalls but muscle always goes up and fat goes down. Thus I've learned by body doesn't stall at all.

  11. I was sleeved 1/15/19 also and im still in the puree stage which today is starting to feel depressing. Im sick of puree foods. I have lost 25lbs and feel I shld have lost more. idk
You feel you should have lost more? When have you ever lost 25lbs in less than 4 weeks? Thats amazing! I was sleeved on the 15th as well and I'm down 21lbs, I'm thrilled! We've got this!

  12. I'm loving poached eggs. (my first time cooking them and I'm a master already, never going back to overeasy!) I'm also loving pureed Beans, Soups. I had some salmon the other day and that went down with no problem. Tried some chicken. My stomach said "This aint it chief". So far the only solids I can tolerate are eggs and seafood, and only very small amounts. 1 medium egg, 4 oz of Soup, 2-3 oz of pureed food.

  13. My surgery was on the 15th, so far I'm down 12lbs. I feel like it was forever ago except for the the very dull ache at the biggest incision. I'm worried that the hernia that I didn't even know I had but the surgeon repaired is going to come back. Other than I get can get all my Protein in if it's in liquid form. I drink about 60 oz of Water a day. I was doing a 128oz everyday before surgery. All in all I feel great. I've even gone back to exercises though I'm not allowed to lift more than 20lbs. I miss working my abs! 😭

  14. Day 22: Music

I've fallen off the challenge wagon. I still follow all rules religiously but I haven't felt like doing anything lately. Going into one of my moods again. I do want to be here for this one. If anyone has seen other posts of mine music is everything for me. My mom had playlist going when I was born. I had one going when I died. I have one going full of my desire to live. This song is the first on the list:
