    Any Vegetarians Here?

Hey, thanks everyone! :-) What protien drinks do you recommend? The whey ones really do a number on my stomach and irritable bowel.

    so discouraged

Have you been working out recently? Did you increase your exercise routine or start using weights?

    Any Vegetarians Here?

That's great news! I read on some other boards that certain veggies that have a lot of roughage can't be eaten, like broccoli and brussel sprouts, which I love.
  4. Hi all you Jersey people!! :-D There is a NJ board? Morristown is a bit too far for me to drive. It's more than an hour away, but heck, if I can't find someone really good, I'll drive it. I am researching two Dr.s around here. One named Dr. Chau in North Brunswick and the other Dr. Mehta in Princeton. ANyone here anything about them?

    Anyone with IR or PCOS

I have a drawer full of Glucophage that I can't take. It made me really sick and dizzy and put my blood sugar too low. But I wish I could, becuase my sugar was 111 3 months ago.

    I survived band removal surgery...

Glad your home and feeling better, I was a bit worried after reading your story. The nurses said they see a lot of complications from the Lap band?

Vinesqueen, your a fellow PCOSer too, right? Thanks for your post. I'm looking forward to getting rid of a lot of the crappola that I have when I lose the weight, because I know it's either causing it, or making it worse. But isn't anyone afriad of the long term stuff? And this sounds like a CRAZY question, but due to the high maintenance of a LBer, what if there was a war or natural disaster (like Katrina) in the next 20 years that made medical care difficult for us to get? Weird question I know. You can see how freaked I am. :-p

    NEWBIE:Scared to Get Lapband

Maria, thank you so much, your reply is really appreciated by me. Yes, I am very serious about this and don't look at it as a new diet to try. It's very serious business to me. I also have Polycystic ovary disease, which not only put me on a fast rain to diabetes, but also put 100 lbs, on me, gave me thick chin hair and hair loss on my scalp. My main fear is the erosion issue, and the risks associated with that, and the damage to the stomach or death if it does. Plus, it seems like bandsters have to undergo more surgeries and that carries a risk too. But I am at high risk with this weight on. It's a tough decision.

    Get an Endoscopy!

I hear you DeCarla. Alex, to be honest, that's where I'm at. I have insulin resistance, PCOS high triglicerides, cholestral, sugar is getting higher and other issues and I'm fast headed to early death if I don't do something.

    Get an Endoscopy!

I read that the amino acid glutamine helps heal stomach lining. That's the real issue for me , why I have not been banded yet (and I have been approved for 6 months now) is no one has been long term with the band either successfully or with complications. I have not met one person who has had the band for 10 or more years and that bothers me. I'm kind of surprised it doesn't bother anyone else before being banded. :-/

    Anyone with IR or PCOS

I have PCOS and IR too, and like the original poster, am one point away from diabetes, which is NOT okay with me. Heck that was 7 months ago, I might be there now. And like others here, I have put weight on steadily. I am now 100 lbs overweight. I cant move normally, my body struggles with this fat on me. I have been thin or have lost weight only a few times in my adult weight, it was short lived and such a struggle, I could not sustain it. I have hypoglycemia and thick chin hair that I have to shave everyday and I am also now losing what was once my crowning glory, my hair. I used to be a hair model, now you can see my scalp. Beating this disease is worth getting banded, however I am a newbie here, sent by someone else to research the risks as other sites won't really tell you, and I am really scared about the erosion issue. Is it worth erosion????????

    Get an Endoscopy!

I was wondering the same thing..I mean..EROSION into the stomach!! What happens to the poor stomach afterwards?? What are the long term problems the stomach might have due to tissue damage etc?? YIKES!
  15. Oh my gosh, it sounds like infection. Please keep us updated. I'm not a nurse, but I had to comment because I have the same things happen to me too, after surgery. I have not been babnded yet, I was sent to this board to do research. I am shocked at how many people have erosions.
  16. Hey all, this worries me too. Let's face it, in the coming years, we are going to get the flu. So what are we supposed to do?

    NEWBIE:Scared to Get Lapband

Hey all, thank you so very much for your posts. Sleepyjean, thank you for your post as it struck home. I know it has been in Europe but is new to the US, but I would love to hear from those who have had it for longer term, to hear about complications, etc. I'd like to know how this thing does 10-15 years out, not the 2-3 years I normally see. And another thing that freaks me out is erosion. I mean, what the heck happens to your poor stomach after THAT? :-o

    NEWBIE:Scared to Get Lapband

I am in Matawan NJ, exit 120! ;-p I am looking into going to a support group as we speak. Actually two, because I am checking out two different surgeons. Dr. Chau and Dr. Mehta. I am afraid of the surgery, I am afraid I won't wake up or have complication and dying is not worth it and it sounds strange, but the thought of having something foregn inside me, wrapped around my stomach is a little scary. What scares me is what it will be like afterwards. i don't really know. I don't want to get the band and then freak out about what I have done because I was not prepared for the changes. For example, I bolt down my food, I don't know how to eat slowly. I have read things about people eating broccoli and almost fainting from the spasms, etc.. I am a vegetarian too by the way. It frightens me that I could not chew well enough and have to go to the ER because of it.
