    Concerned about Energy and Complications

I’m 61 years old and 1-1/2 weeks post-surgery. Relatively good health prior except for the weight. This has been the hardest week of my life, but I knew it wasn’t going to be easy or without work and commitment. My energy is up and down. When I think I’m over the hump I’m back down again. Today is one of those days. My energy was great yesterday and today I’ve been in bed all day. BUT...Whenever I question my decision to have this surgery, which I have, I remember what the doctor told my family after the surgery. I would have had cirrhosis of the liver within 5 years had I not done this. And I had no idea. I am so thankful for this opportunity and that I finally did it. I know I will get through this and be all the better for it.

    Hindsight is 20/20

I’m 5 days out. I don’t believe the different surgery would have made a difference in your cravings. The surgery doesn’t change that. Your tastes in some foods will change though so that may help. You would have the same worries at this point with either surgery.

    64 oz water

    I’m allowed to count it.
  4. I’ve had two people I know that had the surgery that it’s a good two weeks before you will start getting your energy back. I was sleeved on Oct 11 and am still very sore. I’m slowly cutting down on the pain meds because they make me sleep. Too much sleep and I can’t get my protein in. This is a really hard adjustment and I’m taking it one day at a time. Still on liquids for two weeks and would really love a banana [emoji6]
  5. There is this thing called the 7-week plateau. Your body holds on to everything because it thinks you are starving yourself. Just keep doing what you are doing and it will pass.
  6. I should mention that I have a desk job.
  7. I met my surgeon this morning and he said to plan on three week if no complications.
  8. I was able to get Oct 4 today only because of a cancellation. Seems like it's so far off but I'm sure it will go by fast, for both of us. Good luck to you!

    So Cal Sleevers

I'm in the High Desert and met with Dr Fedorka today. I'll be having the sleeve on October 4. He was really pushing the bypass due to my heartburn issues but I've been set on a sleeve since the beginning. Have any Post sleevers had their GERD issues worsen after surgery?

    "Newbie" status

Hi TammyLee! I just went to week 4 and they gave us a meal plan. It's not liquid and the class was led by a dietician so I really learned a lot. Had my labs between week 1 and 2, and my first Dr appt last week. So far I'm down 9 lbs on my own so we'll see what the eating plan does. Still no word on a liquid diet, but we have another nutrition class in week 6. So far so good. I'm really enjoying the classes. Hope all is going well for you!
