kaleishab89 reacted to IveGotThePower in 1 Year Sleevaversary
Tomorrow is my 1 year sleevaversary. Thought I would share what I have experienced over the past year. Fair warning, this was a year in the making, so it's a little long....
I have lost 92 lbs and gone from size 22/24 to 12/14. My Plantar Fasciitis is gone and I can walk for miles. I can wear heels and cross my legs. Shoe size shrank by 1/2 size. I can sit indian style and move a lot better. The interior of my car seems a bit bigger and I just fit into the world better. I lost some hair and now have 3" strands growing back all over my head. I never vomited or had dumping or foamies. I eat very low carb and don't miss carbs one little bit. Truly. I have lots of low carb foods that I LOVE. And I enjoy cooking and eating.
People: I have been open about my surgery. I am still saddened to hear so many people who believe negative inaccurate stories they hear about wls. One woman said it causes stomach cancer. It does NOT. The ignorance is real. I have found that most people have made up their minds and they don't want you to confuse them with facts. I do get support from people who know me. And that is what is important to me. I used to want to wear a T-shirt with a before after picture of me a few months ago as a walking billboard for wls, because I was and am so happy with my results, but now I am less apt to share my story because so many people still have a negative mindset when they hear wls, which is very sad because it helps so many people. I actually feel that some people treated me in a more negative way after I told them. Guess I gave them more credit than they deserved.
I do think my social interactions are more frequent now. I think I do have more self confidence now, maybe it's because I feel like I look better. I have a turkey neck thing going on that I'm not happy about, and the skin on my upper thighs is a tad saggy. My stomach is a lot better than I thought it would be. Boobs shrank some, but still plenty there. My arms are floppy, and I don't like that, but even so, I love shopping and dressing now. I may be developing a Transference Addiction of shoe browsing/buying. I had to wear ugly "comfortable" shoes for a long time, so I can't tell you how much fun it is to have a few pair of cute shoes that don't hurt my feet. Thank goodness Hubby says I'm not out of control ....yet....
Clothes shopping: Tried to buy everything on sale. I still have some things that are 2X or 3X that I need to replace. The clothes buying can add up fast. It doesn't help that my Husband actually encourages shopping. Who does that? I think he knows just how much I enjoy it now, where I hated shopping before. Nothing.... nothing looked good before.
Alcohol: I haven't tried any yet. Going on vacation in a few weeks and might try a little bit.... maybe. Never been a drinker.
Exercise: Uh...well....I do have a gym membership. Does that count? We go a few times some weeks and not so much others. I'm a work in progress.
The weight loss almost stopped at 10 months. I had to regroup and lower my carbs and up my fat intake to get it slowly moving again. Slowly, ever so slowly. I can eat more and the game is changing. You really get used to seeing that scale move every few days, and with every stall, I would think, maybe this is it. I pack my lunch every day, don't count anything and just focus on healthy low carb foods with a bit more fat. My diet is also a work in progress. Not sure where I will end up, but I am sure it will be low carb. My goal is not a size or a number. It is a healthy sustainable balance where I can get the most out of life. Thank you to everyone who made it the end of this rant. I am grateful to everyone who took the time to post their experiences to help those like me who were searching for a miracle, and finally found one.

Found a way to get fluids and Protein, and a treat. Ordered popsicle molds and made my own orange creamsicle. I use Bariatic Advantage Orange Cream shake mix (27g Protein) and use 8 oz of Fairlife nonfat milk (13g protein) instead of Water. Mix well in blender. Makes 6 popsicles. It's a little thick, so I could not drink it as a shake, but great as a frozen treat. I usually eat 2 (13g protein) or 3 (20g protein) at a time for a snack. Plus it's a Meal Replacement shake mix, so has other nutrients. Also made with Bariatric Advantage strawberry, chocolate and iced latte flavors.

How you feel post op depends on you, your surgeon and just general luck. I was really lucky and had no complications [emoji4] I did the liquid diet for 2 weeks, then puréed for 2 weeks and was then cleared for regular food.< br>
When I first woke up I felt pretty ordinary and they wouldn't let me drink anything. I also vomited a couple of times, which was a little scary. But I figured out it was the anti-nausea meds that were causing it, weird I know.

My right side incision and whole right side were pretty sore for about 2 weeks and I took lots of naps. But after about 2.5 weeks I felt pretty good. Being around people who are eating is weird when you're on the liquid post op diet. You don't realise how social eating is until you can't. Even though it was hard I used to try and go and sit with my family at meal times.

Then the challenge is figuring out what full feels like, I get the hiccups and feel a little gross. I know it's time to stop then. Since the surgery I've vomited once from over eating and I got the warning signs and ignored them.

The best advice I can give is, figure out what full feels like and stop when you get there and take the pain meds during the first week post op. Good luck guys, you won't regret it! I've found the benefits far outweigh the risks and the things you give up. It just becomes your new normal [emoji4]

You can see more info on them at the BariatricPal Store or PatchMD.com
They're basically a 1-inch square patch that you wear for 8 hours a day, and it's absorbed directly into your bloodstream instead of going through your digestive track. You absorb more of the Vitamins as well. I've had 2 rounds of blood work done since wearing them (getting another done tomorrow, actually) and have had no issues.

I haven't tried them as the ones I've talked to have spoken about how gross they are. I opted for the Patches and haven't had any issues/wouldn't go back.

    Hi All!
I hit my two month mark last week (I was sleeved on 12/09/16) and thought I would share some pics! I have a total weight loss of 70 lbs since the start of my WLS journey! Feeling great and can not wait to see where the next few months take me! I did have a complication with my surgery (twisted stomach) in which I had three additional surgeries and just had a stomach stent removed on 02/14/17 that assisted my stomach to heal from the twist. Although my journey has been different than most, now that my complication has finally been resolved I feel like I can hit the ground running even harder to make bigger and bigger lifestyle changes! I wish everyone the best in their journey! First pic is from 12/16/16 with my surgeon....last two pics are from 02/16/17 showing the changes!

It does go pretty fast though. Try not to think about it to much. Now that I'm on soft foods, just about everything makes me nauseous and I find myself better off on Protein shakes and liquids. Back when I was on it, I hated it

For me, shoppping became fun when I discovered I no longer belonged in the plus size section. Actually, it was mystifying at first because I had been plus size for so long, I had to learn how missy and junior sizes worked. Once I got the hang of it though, I became quite the shopaholic for a couple of years. I would recommend starting with an aspirational outfit. Splurge on something you wish you could wear (it's your birthday after all), buy it two sizes smaller than you are now and hang it someplace where you can see it. Then keep trying it on as you lose weight, it will not only help you stay ontrack and give you something to look forward too but it will also be a great night out when you wear it.

    Hello everyone!
I usually don't create a whole topic just for myself, but today is a little special since it has been exactly one year since I've had my surgery, time sure flies, especially when you go through a physical change of this ... magnitude.
In a year, I have indeed lost 53kilos (117pounds according to google). I never thought I would look like I do today and I am really glad I took the dicision of having my gastric sleeve, it has helped my health (no more sleep apneas! I can swim and bike again!), it has changed my perspective toward food (I actually prefer eating now since I don't hate myself after each meal anymore), I have changed my life habits in many ways and last but not least, I feel way happier nowadays.
Here are so before after after pics
    Before:

And these after some after pictures:

So, yeah, voilà! Good luck for everyone! I know the first months are quite hard, but it was all worth it for me, and I could not be more glad about the results!
    Have a great day
