    Considering Mexico For Gastric Sleeve

I spoke with my Dr about the insurance coverage and they verified that my insurance does cover WLS, so I will be trying the insurance route. My wife on the other hand says she doesn't want to have to deal with all the hoops and wants to go to MX. She is scheduled for Sep. 11..already booked the plane tickets. Hopefully I'll have already completed my surgery and be the skinny(ish) sexy man that she deserves to escort her.

    Considering Mexico For Gastric Sleeve

I am now considering the Mexico route as well. I just found out that my insurance policy has Weight Loss Surgery as an exclusion.
  3. I just got back from my sleep study...Talk about failure. I tossed and turned so much the tech had to come in twice to reconnect me. I think I might have gotten an hour or so of sleep. I usually can sleep anywhere as I travel for work. The tech couldn't tell me anything but I have a feeling it will be "inconclusive" and rescheduled. Anyone else have trouble sleeping in the sleep study? What happened?

    Sleep study failure

I guess I slept more than I thought. Should be submitting to insurance next week once they verify all ducks are in a row. I met with the surgeon and he suggested I set my goal weight lower to 170 which would be over 100 lbs lighter than I am now. Says I will gain back a few and that would put in the right weight. Not sure if I am more nervous that they will approve or or that they won't.

    Sleep study failure

I got the phone call yesterday from the sleep study place that my dr would like them to schedule a follow-up study with a cpap as they determined I have the Apnea. No details other than that. So I asked when the next available appointment was and they had a cancellation that day and so I hopped my big ol butt over there last night and slept with a CPAP machine. Felt a bit awkward at first but slept better than I did the last time I was there. Follow-up appt with the Dr tomorrow so hopefully we will be submitting to insurance for the surgery this week. Finger crossed.

    Sleep study failure

Well I should know something this week..I hope they got enough information..The surgeon said if I have sleep apnea I would need to be on the CPAP for at least a month.
  7. So I just got back from a small family reunion for my Grandmothers 90th birthday. When I said large family in the title I wasn't referring to the number of people there but the size of the people there. I found out that a couple of them had had either bypass, sleeve, or the band in the past. The problem was they were all telling me how it failed and they just gained all their weight back. This was pretty eye opening for me to say the least. I know surgery is a just a tool in the weight loss tool belt and can be defeated. All the ones I talked to had one thing in common...they never went to a support group or held themselves accountable to stick to eating right post surgery. They mentioned how easy it was to fall back into the old eating habits and some were even pressured by their spouse to cheat on their diets. Now I am scared that this will end up being my fate...I will just have to make sure I attend the support group meetings religiously.
  8. I mother who had the sleeve done a few years ago told me today to rethink getting the sleeve done. While she had some great success in the beginning, she is starting to gain the weight back. She told me that I would not enjoy going to shrimp/crawfish boils as if I ate even one shrimp too many I would be unable to keep it down. Considering the last boil I went to was 3 years ago, I think I'll be alright. Now does anyone vomit after eating too much?
  9. that does sound hooky pooky..will your insurance even accept the home study test? I have heard that some won't.
  10. I'm scheduled for my sleep study in April (first available appointment) and they are doing a split study where once they get enough data they wake me up and try the machine study part. So hopefully I get it all knocked out in one night.

    1st step

Well I have completed my psychiatrist appointment, physical therapy, and my first follow up with the NP with the weight loss clinic. I have a split sleep study on April 11 as my final hurdle to submitting to insurance. Was told my liver is not enlarged so no pre surgery diet with the exception of the day before. Down 4 pounds from the beginning.

    1st step

I have been heavy since my teens. Struggled for 24 years while in the Coast Guard to stay within required standard.. Which lead to my voluntold retirement. Since then my weight has been climbing even though I try to watch what i eat and try to stay active. I've had both knees operated on and the pain keeps me from doing too much in the form of exercise. I started researching gastric sleeve surgery in December. Talked to my wife and neighbors (neighbors both had bypass) and on Saturday I filled out and submitted the 10 page questionnaire to start the process with the local university hospital. I originally submitted and was approved for the sleeve with evolve weight loss but they are out of network and would be over 7k. In network would be 2k so trying again. Hopefully I attend the seminar on Thursday and get the show on the road!! Thanks to everyone here, reading your stories have really put my mind at ease regarding the process.

    1st step

I bought some Protein shakes to try and thought I would have one for Breakfast. I picked up Premier Protein vanilla and slowly drank it. Once it was gone, I felt just as hungry as I did before the shake. Are you supposed to chug it to feel full. Maybe after surgery it will fill me up. Will talk to the nut at my next appointment.

    1st step

Ok, this logging everything you eat/drink is a pain, and a really good motivator to not eat a bunch of crap. I don't want my nut to crack on me when she reads my logs. sleep study appointment made. Psyh appointment made Have not heard from the physical therapy people yet.

    1st step

I attended my first appointment with the Dr and nutritionist today. Was pretty hones with them...they laughed at some of the stuff I told them and since I am at a BMI of 36, and no real documented health history she ordered up a sleep study and full run of blood work...I think the guy who drew my blood had to go get more vials for all the test. The nutritionist has me logging everything I eat/drink of course and wants me to make sure I eat all three meals a day as I sometimes skip a meal or two and then binge eat when I get home. Oh any my blood pressure was a tad elevated today, so they are going to closely monitor that.

Odd words of wisdom from Mom.

Thanks sporty it does help. The dietitian yesterday was saying to start before surgery learning to chew food completely which will be a change from the way we were taught in the military. I think I will look vat it as enjoying my food longer. I don't believe we were good supporters of my mom when she had her surgery or after, as every time she came to visit we always took her to eat to our favorite places and may have pressured her to try some of the more unhealthy options. I believe that has to change now.

They did show the size meal you can have and it showed 1/2 a stock of asparagus 1 other small item and 1 shrimp..I laughed. Sure the others didn't appreciate it as much as I did.

I just got back from the medical weight loss seminar that is required by the hospital. Very informative and helpful. I think I have made the right decision and my wife has decided to take the same adventure. Will be nice having a partner to go with. [emoji3]

Odd words of wisdom from Mom.

Maybe I worded that a bit different than I intended..She made it sound like it's almost every day occurrence..And it only takes 1 shrimp. ONE!! So I told her to quit eating shrimp. [emoji3]
  20. Hope all went well Dan. I'm just starting out on this journey...so I will live vicariously through you for now I guess.
