  1. I'm 4 weeks out and exhausted as hell. Just simple tasks like taking a shower wears me out. I sleep all the time. I can't wait to get my energy back because it's seriously keeping me from working out. Even a 10 minute walk around Target wears me out. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Shrimp?

I'm 4 weeks out and had it the other night; broiled with Old Bay seasoning. [emoji4] Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Pre Op help

Not sure if this was meant for me or someone else but the way my surgeon explained it is that yes, he could fix my hiatal hernia with the sleeve but most sleeve patients experience a recurring hernia within a few years. The way RNY anchors your pouch apparently prevents it from slipping back through your diaphragm. Plus, often times GERD issues come back too. There are many people on here who are getting revised from sleeve to RNY, mostly because their GERD wasn't resolved or it came back. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Surgery Tomorrow I'm So Scared

I understand...we all do. I didn't sleep a wink the night before, and I was his first surgery that morning. Your surgical team does this all the time and can tell when patients are anxious. Mine certainly did. It will be over before you know it. [emoji4] Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

Ugh I hated that gas they pumped me with because pre-op I weighed 237. Post-op it put me up to 248. Between that and all the IV fluids, I thought "this can't be right" lol. But you're right, walking often is the best way to get rid of it. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. I switched as soon as I got approval from insurance. I had GERD issues and didn't want to end up having to get a revision from the sleeve to RNY in a few years. It's very common for those with previous GERD who are sleeved to have to get it revised to RNY within a few years. My surgeon had recommended it at first but I was hesitant. Plus, the amount of weight lost is greater with RNY. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

Your nervousness is completely normal. You'll be fine, I promise! Let your surgical team know about your anxiety, especially your anesthesiologist. They should be able to give you something to help you relax (I called it "happy juice" lol). That's what they're there for, to help make this as comfortable as possible for you! And when you wake up, you won't feel a thing. You'll feel like you've woken up from a nice nap. Think about why you're having the procedure and how much better you'll feel once you have no more heartburn! AND you'll lose more weight! So you'll feel better overall! 8. I'm one week out from surgery. Still feeling pretty good, just tired. I pretty much slept all day. I haven't had to take my pain meds since yesterday. Today I ate Cream of Wheat sweetened with a little Splenda, a jar of Gerber's chicken and gravy (meh...it wasn't horrible, just needed salt), and pureed ham with a little mayo. I also managed a caramel Premier Protein shake. Nothing I've eaten has triggered nausea (yay!) so I'm still good on that front. Also nothing has tasted particularly bad either. I've heard many people say their tastes for different foods have changed but mine hasn't. At least, not yet. My only concern at this point is I still haven't had my first bowel movement. I've taken Miralax in my peppermint tea for the past few days and I'm still a no-go. I'm hoping things will get going by the end of this week. It didn't take this long when I had my gallbladder surgery a couple of years ago. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    gastric sleeve and gall stones

I had mine removed a couple of years ago. It's really the only way to resolve having gallbladder attacks. I haven't had any pain or issues since. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Puréed foods

Maybe I'll try salsa instead. Hopefully the new stomach will agree with it. If not, I'm stubborn and will try again on a couple of weeks. Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Do portion sizes get bigger

All valid points but, respectfully, I stand by my original statement, my surgeon, dietician, and multiple reputable institutions (including the National Institutes of Health) that weight loss surgery is a tool, and that even after the initial weight loss, it's up to the patient to put in the effort to maintain it. I wish you the best of luck on your journey! Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Do portion sizes get bigger

I can see your point of view. However, I'm in agreement with my surgeon: it is, in fact, just a tool. A tool is only as powerful as the effort put into using it. If the surgery was that powerful, people wouldn't gain the weight back. The surgery would stand on its own and the weight loss would be effortless to maintain. Any reputable surgeon or dietician will advise their patient it's still an ongoing lifestyle change. After your body is accustomed to being at a higher weight for an extended period of time, it's easier to creep back up to one's original set point rather than stay at the new lower set point. Just some food for thought (no pun intended). Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Day 1 post op

I hope you have very little pain too! I was very worried about the pain because I have such a low tolerance for it. But yeah...so far, so good! [emoji38] I'm 5 days out, still no nausea. I can actually gulp instead of sip liquids now without consequence. Well, bigger sips, I should say lol. A really good sign, though, is I can go longer now in between taking my pain meds. So instead of every 4 hours, I'm up to 6-7 hours and with 1/3 of the bottle left. The gas hasn't been too bad either. To be honest, the absolute worst part of this experience was when the nurse removed the drain. I wouldn't wish that kind of pain on anyone! Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Pre-op diet ideas?

The first few days, you may feel pretty awful (headaches, lethargic, lightheaded). But...it's temporary, I promise. Once you get over that hump, it gets easier. Just stick with the diet your surgeon requires. As previously stated, our diets wildly vary from surgeon to surgeon. I wasn't put on an all liquid diet but others were. Mine consisted of 3 protein shakes a day, a small salad, 4 oz of lean protein of my choice, and non- starchy vegetables. The goal was to stay below 50 g of carbs and 1200 calories a day for two weeks. You'll read about some people who weren't placed on a diet at all (lucky them [emoji4]).
