  1. My surgery is July 10! Pre op appointment in two days. Very excited even though it is close it stills seems like it is dragging. I need to push my self to get serious about this pre op diet. It is just hard to know that I will not be able to eat certain foods.

My surgery is July 17. My last appt is July 7. My pre op diet starts July 3. I feel you about the pre op. I started a pre pre op diet to jump start me for my official pre op. Its been very helpful. I now have more confidence that I will be strong enough to endure it because my cravings are not as strong.

  2. Hello Everyone,
I'm new to this but I'm nervous for my first consultation with the doctor tomorrow. I'm also very excited at the same time! Anyone else experience a rollercoaster of emotions? Anybody have any advice or questions I should ask the doctor tomorrow? Thank you in advance!

First consultations usually are very basic in nature. At least that was my experience. My surgeon went over the basics of each surgery in general terms( the benefits of wls,the difference in them, your bmi, what diets you were on in the past&risks) & I had already did some research beforehand. Write down your questions, thoughts or feelings and express them. First consultation is a beginning & also is where you start to bond with your surgeon. So, express yourself & concerns however you need. I dont know how much research you have done prior so
when you& your surgeon do decide on what wls surgery will be best for you make sure you take notes in your nutrition class&do research on your own to get a well rounded understanding & education on the pros & cons & your responsibilities. Also, reading what others experienced(like on this forum) during their journey has helped me tremendously. Absorb as much information as you can. Listen & follow what your surgeon says. Yes, emotions run high & low. I am both happy & anxious at my upcoming surgery. There are great people to learn from in this forum. This forum is like icing on a cake. The information you get from your surgeon & nurse & nutrition class is the cake & this forum is the icing. Good luck to you

  3. I never had to do a pre op diet but I still went for walks and cut out all the bad foods. I was on a diet long before I started this process because like you, I knew it would benefit me in the long run. [emoji846]

I just started using a fitness band to help keep me motivated in regards to walking & moving around more. It seems like looking down at it to see where I stand during the day motivates me to do more the next day.

  4. I got to tell you. I would have never guessed that I would lose weight before my pre op diet. The last time I lost 16lbs was nearly 3 years ago! I have been battling weight issues from just being overweight to being obese for years. When I made up my mind to enter into this bariatric program I also made up my mind to work it & relearn how to look at food. It is a process. Nutrition class was such a great wake up call & how to open my mind to change. My surgeon always reminds me to keep my weight down in my last couple of visits. It never clicked that I was free to start my own pre op diet before my actual pre op diet. My pre op diet officially starts July 3 & my surgery is July 17. So, my reason for this testimony is that you can start to cut back before your pre op diet. You can start to lose weight before your pre op diet(even if your doctor doesnt give you a number of how much weight to lose). I prayed to God for strength. I know God wants me healthy so I can live longer to be a blessing to others. I myself want to be a healthier person. If you know you could benefit from cutting back before your pre op diet ... Try it.

  5. Hi.. I am new here.. like a few hours new. . Wow. the advice that

    BgR72

    • gave you was spot on with what is going on with me. I had my sleep study back in may and i just got my cpap machine last week. My surgeon said its fine i just have to have it with me in surgery, and i also need to just have a consultation with a pulmonologist before surgery.I Am at a 10 also. My surgery center also has stated that if you do have a Cpap machine , even if your regular settings are higher than 10. it needs to be set to 10 for surgery. Good Luck!! [emoji4]

Welcome to the forum! Thanks. This site has been a blessing to me. All the information everyone gives in detail has been so helpful. We are here to help. Good luck to you too. Keep us updated

I start my preop diet on Monday (surgery July 10) and I am thankful it is not liquid only. I do have to have 2 Protein Shakes per day (2 meal replacements) 3.5 oz of lean Protein and I am able to eat all the non starchy vegetables I want, along with sugar free popsicles and Jello. I am excited to finally be on this 2 week countdown! We can do this!!! All for a healthier you!!! Best of luck!!!

  7. Before my RNY gastric bypass surgery 4 years ago, my snoring at night would keep my wife up all night long. After surgery, I would sometimes wake up to find my wife hovering over me. I was sleeping so quietly, that my wife was trying to detect if there were any signs of life left in me or if I was dead.

So the surgery can dramatically reduce the effects of sleep apnea or even put it in remission. In my case this happened within 30 days after surgery.

Thats great to hear!! This sleep apnea & having the c pap with a full mask can kind of be a drag. Its a blessing to have such a machine to help with the sleep apnea but it will be a bigger blessing when I wont need it & have no sleep apnea. Its great to hear how gastric bypass surgery can benefit us in many different ways.

  8. Yes, I had to do the same. I started a month ago replacing one or even two meals with Premier Protein. I had to wean myself off of bread & sweets and it took a month to get it out of my system & eventually it stopped my craving for... Wait for it.. strawberry cheesecake( it was a major sweet tooth). I really didnt know if I could work myself off from it but thank God it worked. I figured I needed not to stop cold turkey but gradually work myself far from it. My pre op diet doesnt officially start until July 3. So, now I know I wont struggle as much because I needed time before I officially start my pre op to get rid of those sweet tooth craving. It takes some self control& praying & motivation & not going grocery shopping when youre hungry. I read about how you should never grocery shop while hungry & I used it & it works. I will continue to use that to help me. This definitely is a process & I knew how bad my sweet tooth was & so I decided to work on a pre- pre op diet to prepare me for my pre op. I lost 10 lbs doing it. I just wished premier Protein would be in my pre op since I am using it now. Keep working that pre op. You can do this! You got this !!!!!!

  9. I did my cpap test in ISLEEP. They already sent all my results to my Doctor. I don't have the machine yet and idk who orders the machine for me. Prob my surgent im not sure. Where are u from

Sent from my SM-G930P using BariatricPal mobile app

I would ask your surgeon when you see him who will be ordering your cpap. Get the number from him if its not him and call them. Make sure you get the number and check on them about your status. If you get a surgery date tell whomever is ordering your cpap your surgery date and stay on top of them. For me I had to call them many times to make sure I knew where I stood in regards to what stage of the process I was at with them. Its some paperwork they have to submit to your insurance company and some office work so I its a good idea to call them. I called once a week for 3 weeks. I live in joliet il

  10. Omg thank you for your response. I did all my preop appts but I was told that I have severe sleep apnea. And I did the cpap study. I went up to 12 in the oxygen. I'm sopposed to see the surgent on Monday to get a surgery date but after this idk if I'll get a date [emoji21]

Im at a 10. So I feel you. So you have your cpap machine? Waiting for it? Where ever you got the order for the sleep study that doctor has to make sure you have your cpap. My pulmonologist ordered my sleep study. Your surgeon usually just gets a fax with your sleep study results from your ordering doctor and also from where ever you had your sleep study.

  11. I was just told i have sleep apnea and i was wondering if this delays my surgery date

Sent from my SM-G930P using BariatricPal mobile app

So you had the sleep study? What happens is the sleep study results are faxed over to your doctor and an order is put in for your cpap. They verfiy your insurance and about 3 weeks you should get a call from the cpap supplier informing you that they have your cpap and they will set up an appointment for you to come in so they can show you how to use your cpap. Depending on how severe your sleep apnea they will order a full mask, or pillow or another type of mask(I forget the name). I have been using my c pap with a full mask for months. In regards to them delaying your surgery because of sleep apnea. The way I was told is when they officially diagnose you with a sleep apnea you must have your c pap machine before surgery. We are required to bring it for our hospital stay. I even had to have mine when they kept me overnight for observation. So, if your sleep apnea is documented they have to order a cpap machine and at least my surgeon states he would not perform surgery unless I had a cpap machine and was using it every night. I was told it helps your lungs along too as well as providing air. Check with your doctor. So, what my doctor stated is that as long as I had my machine I would be fine. Having sleep apnea does not cause a delay. Its a health issue that needs care and thats the cpap machine. They will help with that. Sometimes it takes a lot of calls. My surgery is July 17. I was also told you have to use it at least 4 hours everyday. If not your insurance may stop paying for it. My doctor and nurse said I had to have one or he wouldnt perform my gastric bypass.

  12. I think from what i remembered in nutrition class our nurse stated it would have to be removed. I didnt hear anything about removing nail polish but I stopped wearing polish one month ago because I developed an allergy to nail polish. I would ask your doctor if that is necessary. Does anyone know if nail polish needs to be removed before surgery? Good question

  15. I understand about us needing bariatric Vitamins. I was asking the question if one gets so low in their Vitamin levels because of the malabsorption or a complication that could occur will they supply it for that need. I didnt mean to suggest the nutritional iv as a replacement to baratric vitamins I meant in a one day substitute of some sort to build vitamins back up
