  1. That's who I'm seeing mid-March. I'll post how things go. So far, the staff have been helpful and easy to work with.

How long did you take off from work?

I think I'll plan for 3 weeks and then see how I'm doing.

    Nostalgia and emotional burdens

Cool hobby! Maybe just pack everything away for now, so you can focus on the surgery and healing process. Then, down the road you can reassess whether brewing is still something you want to do? Keep the steins out though! From what I hear both pre-op and post-op we'll be drinking lots and lots of fluids for a good while!

Screwed up on pre-op diet ?

Mistakes happen. Chalk it up as a lesson learned (and we really can't cheat post-op!) and move forward!

How long did you take off from work?

Thanks for this. I'm having surgery out of country, but am seeing my family doctor today and getting a note to be off work shouldn't be a problem. Just need to know for how long to shoot for! The fatigue is my main worry.

How long did you take off from work?

I'm planning on two weeks, but am worried that won't be enough. Those who went back early, what types of work do you do? I'm a nurse, I literally stand for 8 hours and push stretchers. I work in a procedure room where there isn't the option of sitting. I'm nervous about fatigue in the early weeks. Any insight from those who have been there?
  7. I've got a few pairs of jeans and a couple good bras that are too small in the closet that I will wear once they fit. I plan on buying new (cheap) tops as needed.

Day 2 of my pre-op diet HELP

Try drinking more Water. I get a headache if dehydrated. It could also be a sugar/carbs withdrawal symptom. Hope you feel better!

Pros and Cons of Gastric Sleeve Surgery

I'm nervous too. Actually I go back and forth between being really excited and almost picking up the phone to cancel. But... I'm not doing this to lose weight. It is all about health. I'm a nurse and I see so many obese patients. One day it was like my eyes opened. I saw all the obesity caused health problems, the medications, the mobility issues, etc and realized that is how I will end up unless I do something about it. And I've got 5 kids to look after and be there for. I've noticed lately that getting up off the floor after playing with the kids is getting harder and I don't want to miss out on their lives and even more importantly, I don't want them to miss out on having an active involved mom.
  13. My BMI has been at or above obese my entire adult life. I was an average sized child and started gaining weight as a teen. My weight got out of control after high school.

    Broken bones & surgery?

That's a good point. While, I don't think it would preclude surgery, it would be especially important to be sure to get your Protein in and be extra diligent with Vitamins.

    Broken bones & surgery?

Will you need surgery on the arm? An arm in a cast shouldn't cause any trouble for your WLS.

    March 14

    Close! March 16 for me!
  20. Congratulations on your surgery and weight loss so far!! I can't wait to pull out some of those clothes from the back on the closest! Your last sentence about how noticeable it will be to others is something I really wonder about. Telling family and close friends is one thing, but I don't really want to have to explain to people all day, every day, for months at work. I work in a hospital where everyone knows me and will notice (and comment on) weight loss.
  21. When did tell people? As soon as you got a date, right before, after? And what sort of reception have you gotten?

    Children & surgery

I've been doing a Protein shake for breakfast. Kaizen Protein Powder (from Costco), a handful of frozen strawberries, almond milk, and a squirt of pineapple/coconut Water flavour stuff. Delicious!! I did one food funeral. pizza. I love pizza. I have cheated once or twice (small cheats ), but for the most part my cravings have been under control. Enjoy your breakfast shake!
  23. I'm still pre-op, but I've only told a handful of people closest to me. I haven't decided yet whether I'll be open about it or keep it a secret. I don't feel having surgery is shameful, but I am ashamed of myself reaching the point where surgery is necessary. Does that make sense? I'm ashamed that I didn't have the will power to stop myself from reaching this weight. Now, I know I need to look to the future and do what is best for me (and by extension, my family) and that means surgery. I believe it is the only way to get my weight under control.

    Children & surgery

Thank you Berry78 for your encouraging words. I know I shouldn't be ashamed, after all I'm taking steps to improve my life and my health and my kids are a major motivator for the surgery. Obviously everyone can see I'm fat, but I've kept the battle internal all these years. I didn't let on that my weight bothered me or how much it is holding me back. So, coming out and telling my kids... and thus, everyone! Family, friends, other parents at the kids school, coworkers... makes me feel really vulnerable. I'm thinking an after the fact announcement might be the way to go. Then I don't have to hear the nay sayers and let them rattle my nerves pre-op, but the truth is out there! Our surgery dates are really close. I'm March 16. I've been taking my vitamins and am doing shooting for a big Protein, low carb prep until the pre-op officially starts two week prior to surgery. It's been going well! Down 10 lbs in just under 3 weeks How are you doing??
