My doctor cleared me to drink at one month. I have had red wine and it tasted and affected me just the same as before surgery. I just make sure to track it in My Fitness Pal - the calories sure add up fast! Trying to save wine for special occasions and not make a habit of it.

I stopped for 5 weeks before surgery and 10 weeks after then went easy. I was down about about 55 when I started up again and continued to lose at the same rate until dropping a total of about 95 lbs.
    My advice would be:
    1. Count the calories in the alcohol. Distilled alcohol like vodka is 64 calories/ounce. There are plenty of sugary drinks out there that are over 300 calories each.
    2. Drink plenty of Water and take an extra antacid.
    3. Plan EXACTLY what you'll eat when you drink and the day after and stick to it. My problem wasn't so much the calories in alcohol, but rather the bad food choices that followed.
I'm not going to argue with those who preach abstinence, but I know that's not me. The world is full of skinny people who drink alcohol every day. Study what they do and eat and create your own strategy for weight maintenance. Log and weigh yourself ever day and if things get off track, correct!

I had a drink last Saturday and was sleeved on Jan 6. I had two shots.. was fine.. but I don't recommend going outside of surgeons recommendations.

Same here. I'm 7 weeks out and I'll have a small glass or two a few nights a week. It's weird, when I tried Riesling (sweet higher sugar white wine for those who don't know) it never really hit me. I thought something was wrong with me and I still had my tolerance from before surgery. But as soon as I tried a drier red and white it definitely hits me faster. I just go slow and enjoy it.

I am 5 weeks out and almost completely liquid diet still.. having difficulty transitioning. BUT I have a lot of social events coming up and figured I'd rather try to drink at home first.. to see what I could handle. The first night I had 4oz of wine... no problems at all. I was so happy bcs I finally felt a little normal for the first time in awhile.
We should stay away from sugar .. like frozen drinks. Vodka is supposedly better.. but I was always a beer/wine girl. Today hubby and I walked a couple miles in the beach.. then I tried a Bloody Mary .. went down well and stayed down.

If you're dying for something, have a sip. See how it goes. If it goes well, have another sip. If it doesn't go well, you're not ready. Be careful and good luck.

Yes it is normal to gain Fluid weight right after surgery. I'm allowed 2oz Fluid at a time (sip). Wait 5 minutes repeat. What did your surgeon recommend?

A sandwich? What's wrong with you? You can hurt yourself! Were you not discharged with instructions on what you can or cannot eat? You have to pace yourself and be careful. I'm a week post op and I only tolerate my Protein Shake and around 70-80 oz of Water for the day. Remember why you did the surgery in the first place. Best of luck.

Just nervous. Never had a major surgery before. Afraid I am making the wrong decision. I love great meals and socializing with food and drinks. Afraid I'll never be able to again, afraid I will become too skinny, afraid my hair will fall out...etc.

I was incredibly freaked out in the days leading up to my surgery. And the day of the surgery, I was a wreck. (My surgeon showing up 3 hours late for work, unapologetically, didn't help anything, but I digress...)
The entire thing was SO much easier than I thought it would be. Yes, the first few days post-op sucked, but I rebounded quickly. The surgery itself was super easy. Once it was over, I wondered why I let myself get freaked out so much.
It will be just fine. Try to relax and focus on what you need to do to prepare for the surgery and a successful post-op life.
    Good luck!

Practice listening to your heart, your intuition. Are there changes in your life you are feeling called to make? If so take action NOW.

Every time you deny you inner knowing, that small still voice within, you suffer and chip away at your self esteem, your self worth. Release the need to please others, to fit in, to go along with the crowd. Lovingly, assertively, and respectfully speak up for your self, speak your truth. When you deny your truth and ignore your feelings you can’t help but suffer: you may feel angry, sad, victimized, depressed, anxious, or overwhelmed, which often leads to engaging in unhealthy behaviors (overeating, drinking, smoking, shopping, etc) to numb the pain of these feelings. Life is so much simpler when you are authentic. You DO have the power to change your experience of your life. Don't complain. Instead FOCUS on what you DO want in your life, how you WANT to feel and what ALREADY IS GOOD... See yourself as being happy, fulfilled and loved… Keeping this vision/feeling in your heart notice the signs and follow your instincts as they will lead you to living an abundant joy-filled life… All day long check in with yourself to be sure your actions are GROUNDED IN THE ENERGY OF LOVE not fear, anger, or anxiety.

BuffyBD reacted to triplethreat in Does taking Biotin before surgery reduce hair loss?
My hair stylist explained that the hair that is in the resting state at the time of surgery sheds around 3-4 months post op. Once it's out new hair grows. Not everyone has Hair loss (or admits it) but she, my nut, and surgeon all told me it isn't preventable. My stylist estimates I lost 10-15% of my hair.

I was at 36 BMI. 34 lbs down at 7 weeks post op. Walk, walk, walk. It is the key to healing quickly and keeping your head in the right place. Have a plan and stick to it. Best thing I've done for myself.

I'm not sure - I'm guessing it's the B12 and other B Vitamins that are making me feel better, as that seems to be a common result for people. I've never taken before, so I'm going to assume it's that.
Also, when I first started taking Biotin, I noticed a kind of tingling sensation over my scalp on a daily basis - that lasted at least six weeks (I don't feel it anymore). I can't tell if it really had an effect or not. I'm also using Biotin Shampoo and conditioners to help - they certainly give my hair more volume and thickness, but at the expense of softness.

My nutritionist has me on Probiotics (to help the stomach post-op), Calcium 3x a day, and B12 (but I take a B complex pill for the other benefits). I've also been taking a Multivitamin, Vitamin C, and extra Biotin as well, to help counter (maybe) the Hair loss. The last bit I've been taking since November, but the NUT recommendation has been since mid-January (probiotics were recommended to start as early as possible, but I only got my hands on some a couple weeks ago). My surgery is Feb. 9th. I have to say, that since I started taking the Vitamins, I feel so much better and more energetic.
